Filled up on the Welsh border, got to Bordeaux, filled up again and got to Alicante with 90 miles left in the tank. 1400 miles on two tanks. Cavernous storage, more toys than Hamleys, and the gearbox is fine once you get used to it. They are hard to find, but under 10k will get you a good one.

Quick point on Matt's comment regarding the Powershift gearbox being unreliable, it depends which box. The DCT150 (dry clutch) box fitted to petrol vehicles is a total dog and is the box that Ford USA got sued for via a class action lawsuit. We had a few GM wagons in recent past (Buick, Pontiac), some Japanese wagons and Saab. Nowadays it's pretty much all SUV from small-ish to super-huge in size, unfortunately. The comment about Subaru being rare got me chuckling. Where I live in Montreal, you couldn't throw a rock in any direction without hitting at least one Outback! I enjoy you videos greatly, thank you! :)

Great video. I’ve been looking for a sub £10k estate!! XF or a V60r design look like great options. Bit quick to rule out a mondeo! A top spec mk4.5 like a titanium x sport would be one of the best cars to drive in this price bracket, and the boot is enormous.

Some Mondeos look really nice. Recently encountered a modern one on an evening and thought it might be the never-seen-here XF maybe. Ages ago I shopped for the Focus estate, my buddy had one and it was known for economy. Drove just fine. Whether I'd still feel happy in one, I don't know.

I only buy estate cars, more practical. Under 5 grand. My worst ever was Audi A6 2.5 tdi, spent more time sitting in the garages than the road, money pit 😫 best car was volvo 740 gle never broke down, except one clutch. Driving 7 hours trip, no tiredness at all, amazing car 👌 .modern cars give immense headaches, money pitts. 💰

The best wagon ever built was the Mercedes c class w202 - I've had it for yonks & it shows just over 370k on the clock. Still drives as though it do double that.

The Passat to go for is the GT. Best interior (suede heated seats/piano black trim/nice alloys) and a near upright tailgate - unlike many here that may look ‘sporty’ but are impractical - isn’t that the point of an estate? Had to laugh when you said one of your selection can look chavy then proceeded to spend time on an A6 with gold wheels😃 Enough of the grandad comments - some of your viewers are of that generation ......ahem. Mind you even I wouldn’t buy a Skoda Octavia estate in that awful varicose blue - the Superb maybe if I was moving home ....no not that kind of home.😉

I've got a 2017 Kia Optima 3 DCT (yes I know and I'm in the trade!!! 🤣) and I love it. 53000 on the clock lots of gadgets and roomy. Not the quickest thing with 140 bhp but does what it needs to. Mine wasn't 10k though when I bought it in January from a Kia Dealer . Insignia a reverse a Tardis 5.0mts of massiveness but bloody useless boot space compared to any other estate car on the market. Looked at a few on AT but discounted it of boots space.

Being from London, all these cars appeal to me and I had the budget but being in ULEZ as written off all perfectly good cars just because they're a euro 5 diesel. Thanks Khan, Those BMW 3 or 5 series m sport diesel estate would have done me perfectly for commuting as I do a 70 mile commute a day.

Hi Matt! I'm actually after an Octavia L&K estate and here you are with a new video about estates :) . Spot on as always. I know the diesel would be better for long trips but I'd do a lot of short trips around shops as well. Would the 1.8 TSI be a better option than the 2.0 Diesel? TIA

So, Estate cars is an interesting idea. I had, from 2014 a Volvo V70 which I loved and kept up until it died during lockdown from not being used. I then bought a 2019 Mercedes C class Estate AMG Premium Plus which was so hard and horrible I sold it in 6 months. I then bought a Discovery Sport which was very nice but within 3 months I became terrified of it blowing up, and sold it. I now have a V90 Inscription D4. What an amazing, comfortable car. Looks great too. I expect to keep it as long as my previous Volvo. This is my seventh or eighth Volvo.

What was wrong with the C class?
@shieldaigbencher2 жыл бұрын
@@ln5747 It was horrible. 19 inch wheels, hard seats, hard suspension. So uncomfortable. Plus side, 40mpg for the 200 EQ 1.5 petrol engine plus electric hybrid. Lovely car. Volvo V90 is so much better in every way.

Totally agree with everything there. Love my Passat R line estate so not completely bland…..but it is quite boring to drive. Very comfortable though, does everything i ask of it. I do think those Arteon Shootin brakes are absolutely gorgeous, especially in white. Far too expensive for me at the minute 😊
@@danecowan678 Are you satisfied with it? I was also considering buying 2016 b8 passat, but many friends said they are expensive to maintain..
@danecowan67811 ай бұрын
@@nigeris10000Yeah it’s more expensive to maintain than an Aygo, I just spent £350 on 2 new Michelin tyres and £400 on an alternator a month ago but it’s not like a Bentley or something. Any decent mechanic can work on them. If you’re in the USA i don’t think they really very reliable cars, but the European ones like mine are fine. Do you want me to film a review with it? 😂

Hi Matt, loving your advice on cars, personally myself, a very big Volvo fan! I’ve have had 3 V70’s a yearly 1999 a 2005 and my latest one is a 2010 d5 r design. Which I have owned now for 10 years, hasn’t missed a beat and doesn’t use any oil or water. Has done 194,000 miles and still drives like it’s done 60,000 miles. Volvo all the way for me Matt! Keep the videos coming and the road trips. 😎❤️

Great video as always! I’ve been through all of them on auto trader when looking for an estate 😅 I went for a Kia Optima 3 in manual as I can’t bare the silly dual clutch boxes they put in most cars nowadays. Overall I’m very pleased with it -It comes with all the bells and whistles - Apple CarPlay, H&K sound system, heated seats and steering wheel, cruise control with lane keep assist which works great on motorway trips.. and they are pretty rare which I like, where I live, I’m the only red optima owner in town 😄

My 2004 Passat Highline 1.9 TDi estate with 136k is due an MOT test. I've been idly wondering what I might buy as a replacement should it fail badly, and your parameters were pretty much the same as those I'd set for myself. So maybe a Mercedes E Class, or a Superb? The Jaguar appealed as did the BMW, time to search for a nice 'new' car. RATS! The damn thing sailed through it's test today with a couple of minor advisories. So another year of boring reliability, great economy, comfortable driving, good load carrying, and no need to raid the piggy bank. Cest la vie, until next year then.

The 2.5d is a bit nicer to drive (in normal traffic) than the 2.2d imho, although I found both cars had a bit of an odd ratio gearing for 1st to 2nd. And, with one of those oil burning lumps up front, it's quite a heavy car. And, although I don't know much about the newest GM influenced engines, even if they are still GM based, yes there is nothing really wrong with an Alfa. The older Fiat diesels and Twinspark engines were my forte. Two rules for these engines: check the oil everytime you refuel and (as the great car collector Jay Leno says) let the engine warm up before you nail it!

I bought a 2009 Mercedes C180k petrol estate in Feb for £5500. Really love it as a car, is really smooth, practical (for a young family) and has been reliable and after a little tidying up feels like a much newer car. But have this nagging feeling that I should’ve gone for a 3 series or a Volvo (I think I would’ve gone for a Octavia/Superb if the newer shapes had’ve been in budget at the time).

I had an Alfa 156 SW. 2.4 diesel engine and it was great. Over 5 years i didn't have a single fault. I would have bought a 159 SW, in fact, I still think I should have, but the model I wanted wasn't available . It still looks fantastic, inside and out. I was in uni in Cal and mate had a coupe hardtop which had Recaro bucket seats with speakers in headrest. We are talking 1985 so serious stuff back then. My dream car then was Porsche 944. Such a classic car. Good your channel is growing and that you were honest when asked what will you be doing in 5 years? Tomorrow is never guaranteed. Enjoy today. Namaste

You can get a face-lift 2015 estate, sport, nav, hud etc. Just over 120k on clock for £7000 now on a certain site (e**y) High spec and only £30 Road tax..
