I made notes, I prepared questions and my interviewer was such a sweet gal but a chatterbox, all my prepared questions were answered in my 45 minute interview. Really the three people interviewing me seriously wanted my personality to fit the room. My experience got me in the door, but who I am, got me the job. I’m so excited to start this new path. 🥰

Along the "challenges in this role" question, I recently asked my interviewers for a project manager type position "What are the major bottlenecks in this role?" The two interviewers went back and forth for 5-7 minutes during their response. If you can make the interviewer(s) talk most of the time, it means you have less chance to say the wrong thing

I have some questions: 1. I’ve been rejected from about 50 interviews. (In the last one they found the excuse that I could have given more examples. There must have been 20 to 30 perfectly given interviews with no feedback at all. The feedback I got from a lot of them is that they went for another candidate). 2. Before the pandemic it only took around 4 interviews to secure a new role 3. I went to a top business school and have half a decade of experience working for blue chip companies 4. *I’ve been given the advice by some corporate operatives that I could still somehow secure a role at a top company even if I’ve been unemployed for half a dozen years* *Is it discrimination? Is it bias because there is money involved? I would just like to know what is going on as I’m being forced to retire early abroad/take a career break in the summer*.

Madeline, I followed all your videos and it worked. My interview was a conversation not just a bunch of interview questions between the interviewers and me. I got the job. I had an offer for the position within an hour of my interview. I sent a thank you following the interview and job offer. I had the offer before I got home. But I still sent a thank you email for meeting with me and offering me the position. Your tips made the interview easy and comfortable. It w a s the best interview I've ever been too. I love my job.

I listen to this video the morning of my interview. I wrote down all the questions and used 3 of them in my interview and it went great. The interviewers mentioned how much they liked my questions and my confidence that video also helped me out as well. 3 years later and the information is still good. I'll post an update when I hear back about the job.

I have watched many of your videos this week and my two biggest takeaways from your content has been to treat the interview like a conversation, and ASK QUESTIONS. And ask questions during the interview too, not just at the very end. I’m here to say thank you. I truly feel like that was my best interview I’ve ever had, and I walked out feeling confident I got the job. I will know for sure next week, but they were really impressed with my questions, and they could tell I was prepared. Thank you again and keep doing what you’re doing!

Is there any way to suss out whether or not you will be reporting to a micromanager BEFORE you accept an offer? It's one thing to learn to work with/around a micromanager once you're already reporting to them, but how can you avoid having to work for one at all? What are some questions you can ask in the interview?

And when I finally found Selfmade Millennial/Madeline, OMG i just realized how wrong I was in following those other channels. Your videos taught me a lot and when i tried your strategies, I was so surprised with the result... the feedbacks I received were mostly over qualified therefore I was referred to a higher position. In short, I got 4 job offers, and I just picked the best one for me. BIG TIME THANKS TO YOU!!! 😘

Questions I always ask: 1) what will my 1st day, 1st week, or 1st 30 days look like? 2) what's the most challenging part of this career? 3) From your perspective, how would you define the perfect employee for this role? 4) Why was this position open? (In other words, what happened to the person that filled this role b4?) 4) In the job description, it says "....". Could you clarify that for me? 5) What type of environment would you describe (company....(if it's not on the website), specifically, the department I would be working in if hired? 6) Is there training for this position, if so, how long? -- (that might be answered already as it's connected to the 1st question.) 7) Would I be working independently for the most part or are most projects to be worked on by a team? Etc, etc, etc, etc, etc

You, ma’am for sure, have given me plenty of insight and tip pointers from just one video but I’ll be sure to check out those other videos too in the comments and in the links that popped up in the video above. God Bless You that YOU put this out there! I had been doing video Interviews the last week which was a new thing for me since I was at my last job from April 2013 to April 2022 because there was no way to transfer from my last job, which doesn’t exist yet, so I had to resign (under excellent terms!) The big problem with job interviews is that they are bullshit. I'm 47 and have done a lot of different things, jobs, experiences etc. I need a job for one reason only, to trade my services for money. Not job satisfaction or growth or feel goods and so on.. Just Money. I will gladly do a job that pays well for good money. I will work hard for the money. and so on.. But, one needs to learn to lie and go with the bullshit flow today. So that's what I do. For the MONEY and nothing else. If you have a woman conducting the interview start asking her questions after answering hers every time. She will start talking and focusing on herself. A good way to waste time and to associate you with her feeling good being heard.

I got the Job!!! I would always say, I have no questions or when I found one I will contact you! Listening to this video changed my mindset instantly. I had an interview today and at the end I asked them How would you describe this role in your own perspective!? 😳 I was blown away by the answer they gave and it even led to more answers on my path 💃 In less than 30mins after the interview, I was called with a congratulatory message and a job offer🤭 I'm overwhelmed with thanks to God and you all, you especially for this video and for putting up those brilliant tutorials. You are saving lives 🤗❤️

What I absolutely hate about society is companies act like people want to work. Be completely honest you only get a job to pay bills and if someone else was willing to pay your bills without belittling you, then you would gladly not work.

I have a question. When asked in an interview about a time you have changed a process in a job, how do you answer that? I have worked in large health systems so there is no changing processes.

what makes this role available? what kind of additional responsibilities can be gained in this role? What do you want this role to accomplish in the first 90 days? how do you measure success for this role? What have been the biggest challenges for this role? Ask questions about the interviewer: How has your role evolved and how has the company evolved during your time here? Why did you join the company and is the experience what you expected? basic questions: what does the interview process look like? What are the next steps? When can i expect to hear back? if they ask what are your salary requirements: ask what is the pay range for this role?

There's literally no way on earth you should just take an interview THAT soon if you feel you won't be ready. Don't feel pressured into just taking any interview day and time they give. No! YOU be the one to schedule the interview day and time. Just don't schedule it too far out.

I watched two of your videos. Not bad. But: 1- You left out one of the single most powerful things an interviewee can do to help their cause. And probably the simplest. Use the interviewer’s name in responses/ questions. Not every time, but enough where it has impact. ‘Good question, Dr. Smith. Here is my view on that matter.’ 2- you use a lot of cliches in your videos which I understand is for this forum. But in interview, these do not impress, or worse. 3- it’s a given that interviewees should come armed with questions. But the true mark of critical thinking is when the question is a logical inquiry from what the interviewer just said or asked. As with a good news reporter, this shows the interviewee isn’t just anticipating certain opportunities but actually listening and considering what is being said. This is in-the-moment, unscripted and the best strategy for conversational. And I trust that in other videos you advise of body language and demeanor that is relaxed, confident and not like you just won a prize.

Overall good video, however, if I could suggest getting to the topics immediately, or quicker, and stay on point. Jumping around by mentioning all your other videos then coming back to the topic then mentioning another one of your videos made me lose interest and made me feel like you weren’t respecting my time. By quickly mentioning all your other videos either at the beginning or end, and get to the point of the video, could shave off about 4-5 minutes of this video. Just saying as I started to lose interest as it felt more like a self promotion video instead of an information video.

I just spent two days in New York being interviewed all day each day. I can say with certainty that it was a mix of asking questions on the spot and questions I prepared in advance. My biggest take away from these past few days was that it’s really important to feel the energy and try to match it with your interviewer.

@@selftalkwithdee hey Lorraine I did actually. Be yourself and be honest. I remember I didn’t understand a question they asked instead of replying I was brave enough to tell them that I don’t really get what they were asking and that apparently stood out as other candidates answered even thou they didn’t understand

Hi Maddie. Can I ask you a question? One of the questions I keep getting asked over and over again is all about my ability to handle conflicts. I answer the question and give a scenario to showcase my problem solving ability. A lot of interviewers have been impressed by the answer I gave, but others want more. The latter group keeps pressing for questions that sound like an interrogation, asking, "How do you handle a customer that's really nasty and in your face? Like they're screaming at you and telling you that you're a terrible person?" Sure, I've had a handful of those in my lifetime, although I'd say that's maybe only 1% of customers! I'm made to feel like I need to "make up problems" because I think I work very well with the public. This isn't to say it's not a good question, but I don't know how to answer it other than by saying, "I choose to remain calm" and "I choose to listen to their needs." Yet, I'm not sure if those are the best answers. Asking for others for advice hasn't helped because they say the same things. I really could use a guide on how to effectively answer this, and to handle the most ragey kinds of people out there. Thanks.

Hi Guys, trust me I have used few of her questions mentioned In this video. They were great and I cracked couple of interviews. Trust me her videos are wonderful. The ones I used were, what are the challenges you think this position will have and what makes this job available?. I have tried those. I got an offer. Please take her advice seriously and trust yourself. You got this. Thank you so much to you and to all your videos. You are so brilliant. If possible can you plz do a video on how to dress up for a Director level In-person interview mainly for women. I would appreciate that.

I'm from Colombia and I've been having some interviews with US companies and so far I've discovered that the interview style is WAY different. I worked as HR coordinator in my country and thought I would be a good player at this topic, but man, it has been so hard that I just had to study all over again to understand and perform my interviewer skills. Thank you for doing this content, it really helps the foreign people to get better at this skills and understand the process for another culture :)
