I started watching Wrestling when I was a student and I remember ROH was the only company I ever paid a PPV for. It was ShowDown in the Sun 2012, I bought it with some friends at my place who were not really into wrestling (even mocking me for that sometimes) and they just lost it too when seeing Michael Elgin in action.

Here are some of my favorites that didn't make the list: Samoa Joe v. Low Ki (2002): This was Joe's debut with ROH, and he made the most of it with one of the stiffest matches I have ever seen. ROH v. CZW--Age of Death (2005): A great blowoff to one of the few company v. company fued that delivered on all of its promise. The match itself told several great stories, most notably Bryan Danielson as a prick for attacking teammate Samoa Joe, leaving ROH down 5-3. And if the match wasn't enough, the post-match angle, where Jim Cornette refuses to grant Homicide's request Low Ki's reinstatement, took the company to a new level. Homicide v. Colt Cabana--Chicago Street Fight (2006): I saw this one live, and it had just about everything, including a chair riot. Pretty much a perfect blow-off to their incredibly violent fued. Tyler Black v. Nigel McGuinnes (2008): Those two had insanely good chemistry, and perhaps the high point was their first match, for which Tyler won a shot earlier in the show in a Four Way. Although Tyler was technically a heel (being part of the stable Age of the Fall), he managed to win the crowd with one of the best performances of his career. Briscoe Brothers v. Kings of Wrestling (2010): These two teams had an epic fued in 2010, ranging from technical masterpieces to violent bloodbaths. I count the latter from Death Before Dishonour as the high point of their feud.

I’ve only started keeping tabs on ROH in the last few years so I can’t comment on how good the matches were from 2002-2015, but my favourite ROH matches were: Dalton Castle vs Silas Young in a Fight Without Honor (2016) Jay Lethal vs Jonathan Gresham in an Iron Man Match (2018)

ROH (and IWA Mid South) were the bright spots for me in US wrestling in the early to mid 2000s. I was in high school and then college when the indie boom of the time occurred and it kept my wrestling fandom afloat. Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe, CM Punk, Low Ki, Homicide, Necro Butcher, The Briscoe Brothers, Chris Hero and others were amongst my favorites. Going back and watching a lot of the hyped and underrated matches of 2002-2008 really hold up.

little sad to see that Generico vs Steen Final Battle 2010 was cut from this list. It was the ending to a year long storyline between the two that ended in an epic showdown.
@tonyhunt79676 жыл бұрын
I would definitely consider putting the cage of death finale to the CZW invasion on this list. While not technically superior to most of these, it had pretty much all of them beat with raw emotion. It was really the company's creative zenith. If you don't believe that, go listen to Homicide's pop.

I was surprised he chose the 2012 one and claimed that it had more emotion to it. How can any Steen/Generico match have any more emotion than the career vs. mask showdown from 2010 which was the culmination of a year long feud with nothing but emotional and physical torment by Steen on Generico?
@brianammons67876 жыл бұрын
Yes!! A long while back I saw the Ladder War match and just a couple of weeks ago I watched the Mask vs. Career match for the first time. Definitely the better story telling, and the blood fueled carnage was more than enough to give 2010's match the nod for this list. Don't know what they're putting in the tea at WhatCulture but it looks as if it causes amnesia, because they've lost their marbles.
