So hey, did Strickland call Volk a p**** for being wealth af and having the nerve to say he has mental health problems…he even started to cry in front of everyone at the post fight presser. So he must be the biggest beta male in the world according to Sean “trying to beat down syndrome and losing” Strickland. Seriously though, I love Volk, man. Those two KOs back to back now…are just…idek lol but as much as I would like to believe that Volk just kinda got screwed by circumstances…I think his age played a masssssive part it in. There’s only ever been 2 wins for guys at 170 or less in championship fight at the age of 35+ and both of them came from T-Wood at welterweight. So yeah, it just seems to be a hard cut off for the smaller guys at that age…
@steve10
@steve10 7 ай бұрын
Volk doing that is the number 1 mistake for me. I cant remember who was speaking about him , Rogan or DC , but they basically said he is the type of fighter that literally can't sit still, he needs to mentally always be in fight camp for him to feel comfortable, which is admirable, but its not sustainable in the end
@jordancave3089
@jordancave3089 7 ай бұрын
@@steve10 that and this sport just isn’t made for longevity, man. Older guys can be really successful…in heavier divisions. I’m not really sure if there’s any one thing that makes it so difficult for the smaller guys, but ig it must be speed? Either way, I love Volk. The dude had an incredible run, but I don’t believe the short notice fight is the reason why he’s been KOd two straight fights…or why he seems to be on the decline. The better fighters won…and Volk is getting old, man…

I think that we (fans) often complain about Cain not adapting to altitude, but we often overlook (or forget) to praise Werdum for preparing 150% for the fight and acting like a true professional by thinking before about all potential factors that could impact his performance. Werdum was already a father at that time and he said that moving months prior to Mexico to adapt to the altitude was a big sacrifice for him. Werdum truly deserved the big win that night. Kudos to Werdum!

Let's not forget that was the 2nd time, because Fabricio and Cain were supposed to face each other at UFC 180 in Mexico City in November 2014. Unfortunately, Cain got injured (again) and Mark Hunt stepped in, and the bout became an interim title. Nobody gives Fabricio credit for his preparation.

Tony fighting Justin instead of waiting for Khabib is one of the worst decisions in MMA history. He basically took his title shot and said to Justin "here, you can have this". Who actually thought Tony was going to win that fight? A brawler vs a power counter striker? Yeah, great idea, Tony.

@@everybodywalktheDinosaur Tony fans need to come to terms with his limitations. He has always been open to counter strikers and won most of his fights because of his durability. Justin would beat that durability out of Tony 10 out of 10 times, just like he beat it out of Johnson, who beat Tony.

To be fair tho we need to look at this as if we were in that moment. It’s VERY easy to look back in hindsight and say that was an awful matchup and a career-altering decision. Hindsight is always 20/20. But at the time we thought Tony was unbeatable and even thought he’d be Khabib’s biggest test. Nobody could’ve seen this outcome back in early 2020. Easy to say now but back in March 2020 if somebody told you Tony would lose his next 7 in a row, you probably would’ve bet your house and life savings against it

@@philosopher1130 This is utter copium and you know it. PEDs didn't factor in TJ beating Cody, TJ beat Cody because he's the better fighter and Cody is both a hothead and a meathead. Cody also hasn't improved at all, he was trained to beat Cruz and that's it. TAM is not a special gym and Cody wasn't even that special to begin with. He's essentially alternating hooks at the end of the day. He was never going to be a dominant champion, let alone still one now. @JD_13 if she's going to cheat and win a title, vacate to another cheater, then act like she has the moral highground. That's my problem, yeah she has the right to refuse doesn't mean I won't judge her for it just like the majority of fans judge JJ for not fighting Tom.
@JD_13
@JD_13 4 ай бұрын
@@trowabarton101 lol ofc we should judge cheaters, and especially jones btw. And i think a fighter is afforded a certain sense of the moral high ground if they are being blackmailed into fighting a known drug cheat, or lose their belt. Thats just how the company operates, which you gotta agree is not a good look if they are masquerading as being the global leaders in a fair sport. But then again, its not a fair sport, its an entertainment business. Hence Jones being afforded all of Dana's favour.

Well to be fair, Dominick already had three serious knee ligament (ACL) injuries, a torn quadricep and a broken rib, additionally, he was also suffering with a very painful muscle condition called plantar fascia tendinitis (which affected the muscle going down his foot) which multiplied during the training camp he had for Cody Fight, he couldn't even walk with ease. Look I'm not making any excuses for him, it was his call given on how he felt at the moment, regardless, I think he should've been at least mentioned on the list for the sake of times he had to push himself to fighting despite of all the injuries. I understand how a similar argument can be made for all the times he won even after having injuries, (like a torn ACL before Dillashaw fight) but we have to understand that all these things were worsening and accumulating over time, resulting in a Cruz who eventually fell to Garbrandt (who was 8 years younger than him), not to mention his inactivity following that fight (also the dude's like 39 rn).

A super underrated one is Aldo taking the fight with Merab instead of waiting/angling for a title fight with Aljo. Jose was on a 3-fight winning streak against top competition and had a legitimate case for a shot without his legend-status. He was also a horrible stylistic matchup for Aljo and had a solid chance of winning and retiring as a double champ. Instead, a fighter known for not having great cardio, accepts a fight in high altitude (everyone gassed in that card) against a dude named THE MACHINE. He was doing great against Merab in the first round and half… and just lost on activity. Super high risk for super low reward…

They knew it would sell and he thought he could take him out again easily and put the ultimate stamp on his legacy by beating the HW best of all time at the moment. After the loss he wanted to retire on top and once again was offered another Bank and thought he was winning and could take him and knew it was his last and tried to retire on top and get one last multi million dollar payday. Ok I get the Travis Browne one, but.... Stay in Albuquerque New Mexico or Go be with the most famous female athlete at the time, who's also pretty damn hot, eventually marrying her and having kids. I get the man's decision.

Volk/Islam 2 should've been one of the most anticipated rematches with both guys getting plenty of prep time. Could've been another back and forth war. Instead we got a last minute meeting that didn't live up to the first bout.
