Folks always talk about how “violent” and “dangerous” mixed martial arts is compared to boxing… yet on average 13 boxers a year die due to ring related injuries (3 amateur and 10 professional) and the numbers have been fairly consistent in the modern era… since the inception of mixed martial arts (tracked since 1994) there have been 16 octagon related deaths… TOTAL. Amateur and pro… in over 20 years. Also… CTE cases are OVERWHELMINGLY higher in former boxers compared to MMA fighters. And the UFC, the largest MMA promotion in the world, since their implementation of weight classes and unified rules… have actually never had someone die due to Octagon related injuries.
@publiusventidiusbassus12322 жыл бұрын
Yep. It's a lot less disruptive for the brain to get KO'd by a couple of hard shots in a 15-25 minutes-long fight, than to get hit dozens of time per round with extra-padded gloves in fights that last 30-40 minutes. And in boxing you get a 10 count, which means the punishment gets unnecessarily extended. Add grappling and submissions, and no wonder MMA is far less likely to give you CTE than boxing. Hell, bicycling, basketball, baseball and American football are more likely to give you brain damage than MMA.

@@veritas4364in the sense of international law there are some valid casus belli. It's all kinda arbitrary and not enforced. But for example the first gulf war was entirely legal. Sadam invaded Kuwait and was condemned by the UN. They had to withdraw. When sadam didn't desert storm happened. For this reason it was entirely legal to invade Iraq. The second Iraq war is viewed differently due to knowingly lying about the preemptive self defense argument. The whole WMDs shitshow. The idea of the legality of war is kinda murky. in September of 2023 I can still say that the UFC keeping events going, was one of the three reasons I did not commit Sui wooee. I was going thru the mud of life before the pandemic, and I'm not one of the people that somehow managed to claim unemployment and make more money than ever by not working... I stayed at my job in excavation, got a night job working for the state coroner as a driver, and decided that it isn't such a bad thing to think maybe I could die any day... I took everything more seriously and realized that one of my passions has always been martial arts and unarmed combat. I feel MMA is the purest form of competition as well as an avenue for humanity to expand its overall knowledge about the art. NOTHING was active except the UFC for quite some time... and to this day, I do not bother to watch any other sports. I have no interest in anything other than MMA and that conversion happened during the pandemic.
