regarding the "kiss". the first was just a peck, and she did not know at that time. the second was definitely a kiss, and probably the point where she suspected something because it just didn't feel right. From that point on she is different towards him. so, this sick moment you speak of is actually quite innocent, even if a little gross.

The kiss was a product of the fact that George Lucas did not plan on making them brother and sister. It was a last-minute change before episode 6.

Rey being a Palpatine is no bigger a shock than Luke being Vader's son. It's just another example of how the sequels mirrored the original trilogy. The real WTF aspect of this is the fact that fans reject this version of the story but love the Luke version.
