For some context, Karl- There is only a narrow strip where conditions are right for sap-producing maple trees, and it takes a lot of sap to produce a litre of syrup. Also, you have to watch the boil like a hawk.

I have had mixed experiences. Before Uber and Lyft, cab drivers were much worse. But, I have friends who are dancers and use the same cab service/drivers all the time (many dancers don't have credit cards so can't use Uber or lyft). So, the relationship with cab drivers is better

I saw a group of tow truck drivers fighting in Ottawa a few years back. Odd thing, they were all the same company. Meanwhile, 50 feet away, a 2nd company was in the process of towing away the wreck. Not sure why members of what appeared to be the same company were fighting.

I just remembered a Bouncy Castle turf war from Austrailia. The owner of a party supply company in a major AUS city was hiring people to burn their competitor's bouncy castle down. The caper lasted until the police realized that his bouncy castles were the only ones that weren't being destroyed.

There is a new system in Ontario on provincial highways. I have been a victim of the Tow Truck wars… Now in Ontario on provincial highways, you have to dial 511. The government is in control of the tow trucks on the major highways. It hasn’t stopped the wars, but has helped a bit.

Here in San Diego there's a hot dog cart vendor turf war. Hot dog cart vendors are traveling about 100 miles from Los Angeles to steal customers leaving baseball games, night clubs, etc. from local vendors. In one incident a Los Angeles cart owner pulled a knife on a San Diego cart owner on the sidewalk in front of Petco Park baseball stadium. Also, unlicensed hot dog carts from San Diego are trying to steal business from the carts that are licensed by the city of San Diego.

No gun play, but worst taxi was in rural New England going to work on a rainy day instead of riding my bike in the morning when I was 19. Homeboy was arguing with a crackhead (allegedly) who jumped out without paying, and then proceeded to try and run him over before dropping me off at the welding shop like nothing happened. Interesting Monday.

Ice cream truck wars were related to drugs. Gangs were pushing heroin and ecstacy mainly and selling to from the trucks and that was literally the only thing the dispute was about.

I really enjoy your content and I've been watching the episode about the ice cream turf wars in New York. But there was a real turf war with the ice cream trucks in the early 1960's. The original ice cream company was freezer fresh and then Mr softee into the picture, and they had a war that included blowing up ice trucks. At one point someone broke into the depo of Mister softee and stole all the ice cream heads on the machines and basically put them out of business for a while. I know all of this because my family was involved.

I was being intimidated by a group of 4 well known people in my area who did the same job as me. I worked on my own, and we had a job working outside in different locations. I decided to pretend i wasnt afraid of them and would stand my ground. People would literally pack up work and leave the area when they saw these people. I ended up bluffing them into thinking i wasn't bothered by them. After a few attempts to intimidate me they gave up and instead simply say hello and leave me be. I have no point lol

Here in the Western US, there are turf wars that have been fought over woodland edible mushroom patches that have gotten to the level of involving organized crime. Fortunately, where I lived, I was able to harvest wild mushrooms and sell them at the local famers' market without hassle. I could tell some funny stories, though.

Langos is a Hungarian variant of a Doner with serious amounts of veg and sauce, and the bread(?) is soft and fluffy, not hard like pitta. I love em' but buy one late at night you're taking your safety in you hands. Here in Yorkshire, the rivalry is bad, man, just plain bad.

Provide superior service and you don't have to kill your rivals. Or, and I'm just spitballing here, if you find the margins are too thin to make a profit in your field of service, do something else. You'd be surprised how many gaps there are in services out there that could desperately have better options. 12:50 Having an impound yard has got to be as close as it gets to printing money. Obviously there are security costs and whatnot, but to own a big lot where all you have to do is store cars and charge people an insane amount of money to get them back (I believe it's $1,200/month PER CAR), that's a sweet gig.
