This is so much new information. You can do separate video on each of them and breakdown exactly how you do it, I've never seen this recommendations on KZbin before, this is another level

Thanks for the info - I didn’t know that trick with a Light Path Node. But I know some other techniques, that will help you to optimize your scene. 1) Don’t use .png textures, use .exr instead. Yes, file format does matter. PNG is a terrible choice for any CG work. 2) Blender doesn’t have a temporal denoiser, but you can set up a simple velocity deflicker in Blender Compositing (there is a tutorial on KZbin). It will significantly decrease render time for animation and reduce specular noise (fireflies). The only downside is that you have to render 2 more frames. 3) Don’t use high-res HDRIs for lighting. 1k/2k HDRI is more than enough for most cases. If you also use an HDRI as a background, you can download two images - one for lighting and one for your background/sky. Render your scene with a low-res HDRI, then switch to the high-res and render the background only, and then just comp the beauty render over the background. I also recommend checking an HDRI before using it, sometimes it might have some crazy values like 60000, it’s better to clamp those values to something lower. 4) Utility AOV require memory to render. If you need Cryptomatte, Mist and Depth, but you ran out of VRAM, you can render them on a different layer without any light and textures.

PNG is not a _terrible_ choice (not as bad as JPEG would be, at least), but you do lose light information due to the limited color information that is stored. EXR doesn't have these limitations, so it's much better. Really, only if you're going to be compositing (which most beginners won't) is EXR going to be needed.

Very informative, too complex for me right now. I'll revisit this video later on, after I mess with the buttons you just pointed out. Thanks for another great tutorial.

Love that "depth map" for placement of image textures. can see as very useful in gaming context too. Would love to see what can be done with render layers in general, and the new shader aov. I can see how they can help out performance a lot in a lot of situations. Do shadows work seamlessly when separating out like this?

I'd like to see one on transparent objects, like coloured glass, caustics warping and distortion as I'm sure I'm not doing it right (I know I'm not) and tend to go with that'll do and crippling render times.

love your content man! Me and my brother have learned so many cool tricks from you. i have a problem with transparent rendering, i want to render an object and it's shadow together as a transparent image to use inside my UI designs and i use shadow catcher for that, but when i save the image the shadows are too dark or look very bad, can you please make a video and teach us how to do it correctly? i have searched the web but haven't found anything useful so far, thank you

Question: why is 4096 the default sample rate? I have a blurred memory saying it had something to do with optimization but I can't remember

@Heini Gurke thank you that was very helpful. Another question if you have time. I'm having the hardest time understanding the shader editor do you have any recommendations on resources I can use to grasp the concept I need something that goes from beginner to intermediate

this goes a bit too fast to really help, I think. Especially on the solutions. Often times, people make mistakes because they either don't know about the feature they're not using, or don't understand it, so brushing over light path settings or view layer compositing like this feels more like a table of contents with a "more on that later" than an actual tip.
