Spoilers: Very fun game, and a beautiful board. I was a bit worried for the Americans at the end of round 2, but after the naval bombardment completely pinned out one flank, and order dice pulls meant the Flakvierling didn't manage to mow down the infantry in the open things really went in the American's favour. I felt bad the German dice rolls on round 3 and 4, some of those were really unlucky. I did love the flak 88 crew's desperate charge at the approaching American forces. Also units can't shoot if their line of fire goes within 1" of a friendly unit, there was lots of time US forces on the left flank shot past other US squads when they shouldn't have been able to.

Thanks for the comments, really appreciate it, we love sharing our battle reports. The shooting on the left is likely against the elevated position which we had both agreed would allow shooting over the heads of their comrades before the game. This was mainly due to the elevation off of the beach and the hill at the back of the board… hope this helps clarify!? Glad you enjoyed it 👍🏻

Those NCO's in front of the engineers threw me off, as I was like why are the squads 7 men and not 8? Then you said NCO's and it made sense.

Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. The flamethrower effect was made with a warlord pill base (prone base), glued 6” wire, then slowly built up hot glue gun around it. Then paint and stick some black smoke from tank packs on top, quite easy and from a distance looks pretty good too!

Thanks for the comment, we are planning a HUGE D-Day landing and airborne assault battle next year to remember the 80th anniversary of the landings. The mat is very nice and really sets the scene. @@theministryofminiatures thanks guys. I'm about to play a similar scenario of 1/72 British vs Germans, Sword beach type. Using the much simply Neil Thomas One Hour wargame rules. Problem is lack of detail on movement across beaches and determination of where and when landing craft arrive. Bolt action seems fair on these matters but where can I find literature to suit these landing risks? Welcome any views Sir.

@graemeatkinson2138 I have not played those rules… but if you do play a beach landing think about the water, deep, mid and shallow and how that might impact movement for infantry. Sand? Do you want that to prevent running, also… have some mine fields hidden that can either be cleared by engineers or tanks… or the troops can risk getting across them! I can look in the BA rule books incase there are other elements to consider. Good luck with your project, sounds like a great idea… maybe we need a British beach landing battle sometime soon. 👍🏻

What type of platoon is the German one and which book is it in?

Hi, the German army were Ricks, he fielded the 352nd Infantry Division, Omaha beach defense force, I will need to ask him which book… but it is likely to be D-Day US sector. He uses the same app as me, second in command as it has a good selection and can keep them in your phone!

i thought on a naval preparatory bombardment ..a role of a 6 is a auto destroyed unit ? Because of the large guns on the ships ... ?

I think the preparatory bombardment, the role of 6 is a hit, the unit takes an auto hit at +3, but that is only 1 hit…. Would be devastating to wipe out a whole unit!
