Rereading A long Way to a Small Angry Planet on audible because I needed something to cheer me up. It still deals with serious things, but it’s approach is what cheers me up. It gives me hope...

I reach for P.G. Wodehouse when I need a book to cheer me up. The Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde is also a fabulous, fun escape.

Have you read The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett? I picked it up randomly and only noticed the author afterward and realized I'd never heard anyone mention it before when talking about him!
@MrNigelBriggs4 ай бұрын
Terry Pratchett's humor is very clever. Read many of his books but not The Wee Free Men, probably will if I ever get my double vision sorted out so I can read again without getting tired very quickly. Appreciate the reference to the Pict-sies. Stumbled across this video after typing "Films to cheer me up" into KZbin. Well, it has, a little. Wish you health and happiness for whatever it is you dream. 😀

I love this. My recommendation would be the Giant Days comics. They are so ordinary and yet comforting and funny. Also so many of these are now going on my TBR, yay!

Thank you for recommending Murderbot! I had planned on picking up All Systems Red this weekend, and you've made me feel even more confident in this choice. For more recommendations that you already know and love, I started reading Becky Chambers during the terrifying NYC lockdown in March, and it brought me so much comfort.

Absolutely loved Lumberjanes! I read it during a reading slump and it was exactly what I needed. If you're continuing with the series then the crossover with Gotham Academy is also wonderful x

I want you to know I went straight to Audible and got The Wee Free Men. You introduced me to both Grace Draven and Tessa Dare, for which I am eternally grateful. I’ll definitely be checking out Susanna Craig. And I adore Murderbot. I’m just starting the third novella, and in my head, Murderbot is my friend, even though my saying that would make it extremely nervous.😂 I also love Soulless (the whole series actually), and the audio version is excellent! I’m really enjoying listening to cosy mysteries. I’ve been listening to Patricia Wentworth, Agatha Christie, TE Kinsey, and Susan Wittig Albert, and very much enjoying them. I can also always listen to Paddington when I’m down, or anything by David Eddings or PG Wodehouse.

First of all: I'm tired, I started typing this comment in the search bar >< thought the video was surprisingly blurry and realized I hadn't put on my glasses Second of all: I think that's EXACTLY the video I needed today, thank you! And most importantly: that avocado thing is way too cute, I love it!

Thank you for reminding me about *All Systems Red* . I have that on my Kindle and I might pick that up next. The book that cheered me up last month was *The Enchanted April* by Elizabeth von Arnim. I picked it up on a whim, I was looking for something light to read and it was delightful. Hang in there, things will get better again. X

Great video! I added a couple of titles to my tbr :) Personnally I would recommend On A Sunbeam, by Tillie Walden. It's a slow paced sapphic sci-fi graphic novel, so I feel like it ticks quite a few boxes!

I read a lot of Tessa Dare last year, which was my first time reading romance. I tried to sample some other historical romance but I haven't found any other authors I like yet so pleased to have a recommendation as I read Tessa Dare on your recommendation as well. It's funny the one you recommend is set in Ireland because it's the same as with you in Scotland, too me it's not romantic it's just wet! But I spent so much time there as both my parents are Irish.

Apologies at the start but I have lots of response to this video. First off, hope you feel better soon. Hug. (virus free virtual hug)... I adore the Tiffany Aching series, it's in my "books I'd save in a fire" category. I always thought of it as taking place in the "chalk country", which I think of as the Cotswolds. Is it supposed to be in Scotland? ... I'm not a huge romance reader but a series that my librarian friend and I discovered a couple summers ago and raced each other through the books that were out in the series at that point is Deanna Raybourn's Veronica Speedwell series. So much witty adventure and sexual tension. Two thumbs up!... I've read Tom Hold, I'll look for Orc on the Wild Side. And that title triggered the thought of Kings of the Wylde by Nicholas Eames. A book I never would have chosen on my own but my son handed it to me and in the spirit of mother/son bonding I took it and ended up loving it. It's bloody and heartwarming and silly and wonderful..... As a tea lover, I adore The Tea Dragon Society and anything else Katie O'Neill writes. Another graphic novel that left me hugging the book in happy tears recently was Seance Tea Party by Reimena Yee... All Systems Red made me think of a middle grade book I adored called The Wild Robot by Peter Brown. And I read all the books in the Soulless series and have started in on her YA series that take place in the same world. Thank you for this lovely list, it indeed made me feel very cheerful. ...Oh, and you know about The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune, right? That book should have "This will cheer you up!" as a subtitle.

A good historical/fantasy F/F romance book I would definitely recommend is Daughter of mistery by Heather Rose Jones and her other two books in the series (that I personally liked even more than the first). It has really intriguing world building set in a fake european country with many new mystical aspects but still feels based in history with references to other real counties and building on things that did exist. Great escapism and not a sad ending like so many ff romances

i love the tea dragon society! kay o'neill has changed their name and uses they/them pronouns btw, i really recommend their other books too if you (or anyone else reading this!) haven't read them 🥰 really want to get into terry pratchet, my mum has loads of the original editions and i love the covers of them but they're so intimidating, i know if i like one i'll want to read every single other one immediately 😅 the books that cheered me up the most have mainly been middle grade, the pages & co series by anna james is an absolute delight, amelia fang series by laura ellen anderson, october october by katya balen which was one of my favourite books of 2020, went through so many emotions during that book omg. ps an extravagant dress with jama bottoms is 100% the way to go 🖤
