What other capsule wardrobe myths have you read or heard before? 🤔
@olagerta8199

That it isn't for somebody who loves fashion e.g Kim Bedene, Daria Andronescu channel - her videos about large wordrobe. The most dificult for me in creating capsule wardrobe is: what is accent, complementary and neutral - but you said about this on the example of dress capsule but still I need more information about it.

@@olagerta8199 Aaahh ok... yes that would be a good idea for another video. The difference between colors & accents is simply in how prominent they are in the collection. the more of it you have, it's a feature, but if it's just in an earring or in the design or pattern, then it's an accent. And about it not being for people who love fashion - that I disagree with but I do believe that capsule wardrobes are not for everyone. Some people just like collecting fashion because of they love having them, the way some people collect miniatures - and I think that's ok!

Amen! White shirts and blazers are too mannish for my style. A plethora of trench coats...nope. Trench coats are for rainy days. Luv this video!

The only time I TRY really hard for every piece to match every other piece is when I travel with just a carry-on. But even then, it depends on the purpose of the trip. If I'm going to a destination wedding, chances are I'll have at least ONE full outfit, including shoes, that will only work for the day of the ceremony. My "real life" capsule wardrobe is consciously curated, but being a strict minimalist is not one of my goals for it. My collection cannot be too small because I wear business casual attire for my day job, but attend a lot of formal and semi-formal events outside of it. I see it as you see it, Fernanda; one's closet has to be tailored to one's lifestyle. Those "20 pieces every woman must have" lists are of little use to me. And the restrictions regarding colors and patterns...sorry, I'm from the Caribbean. I will NOT spend my life wearing black, gray, and beige. I aim to have **many** neutrals---in my wardrobe, they act as the "glue" to join the more colorful pieces---but it's unlikely that I'll ever have mostly neutrals or only solids. That does not work for me or speak to my soul.

Another one of my pet peeves is when people say that neutrals are elegant, or that wearing only neutrals is a mark of sophistication... it drives me 🤪

@@vazq_Fernanda Agreed! I like neutrals. But wearing cream and beige, all black, or all gray from head to toe puts me in a sullen mood.

You are rapidly becoming one of my favorite style channels!! ❤️ You are so direct and concise and practical! I fell for the mythos of the many, many “Capsule Wardrobe” guides on Pinterest, and I literally tried to check off each box and constantly felt frustrated. I spent money on a blazer but it was a bit too restrictive and I never wore it. On top of it- I’m a stay-at-home mother of 4 rambunctious children- so when am I ever going to wear a blazer!? 😂 I tried to do a lot of the classic, timeless pieces, and discovered that while these pieces look *amazing* on other women, and they channel Audrey Hepburn goes to Europe, I feel a bit bland in basics. I prefer more femininity to my wardrobe, more skirts and dresses, florals and hats, flowing bohemian details on my blouses, and lots of scarves. I prefer to look like I’m exploring wildest Africa rather than touring Paris. And I can never get enough of bohemian prints and silhouettes. I also tried the “everything goes with everything” rule and found that it did not work with things I wore often, such as my tunic tops. You just cannot make a tunic top or longer blouse look good with every single bottom. And I got frustrated with adhering to the limited number of items I thought I was supposed to do. Being a mom means you often get messy, and there were times I was changing multiple times a day due to accidents, spills, smudges, and trying to do my laundry 2-3x a week was NOT sustainable. So currently I have a carefully curated closet divided into 3 sections: I like separating my wardrobe into the color palettes I love. I have two capsule wardrobes hanging in my closet, and then I store my smaller stash of out of season clothing (winter/ summer). I bounce between the two capsule wardrobes and I do not purchase anything that does not fit into one of those two capsule wardrobes/ aesthetics that I love. It gave me the feeling of freedom to not feel so limited to think I had to choose one style over the other, and by blending both styles, I feel I have landed on my own personal style, which I would sum up as, “Rugged Feminine”. 💗

My capsule wardrobe is filled with warm toned muted print color midi dresses , 3 black dresses, and about eight long cardigans in red, Kelly green, and a variety of blues. Your dress capsule episode changed my life. I am so happy now! I am still in the process of purging all those classics, neutral, items that never gave me joy.

So, Capsule Wardrobe Truths: A capsule wardrobe is a intentional collection of clothes that 1. Can be very colorful 2. Is dependent on your personal style 3. Can invite in trends in a manageable way 4. Suits the needs you have for that season of life (literal season, like summer v. winter, or life event season, like pregnancy, travel, new job, constrained budget, etc.) 5. Helps you identify clothes and styles you love, and helps you wear them more 6. Should increase enjoyment of your clothes and flexibility of your wardrobe (NOT increase rigidity and fear...which I have felt at times watching capsule videos!) 7. Increases your ability to thoughtfully participate in the fashion industry, based on who you are and what your needs are, not based on what others say you should be like!

Complete and concise - as usual. Love how you have condensed all the myths/truths. I think the best take away from this is realizing that something may just not be your style, regardless of how classic/elegant/ timeless it is. I call these styles "for my fantasy life "(mine includes trench coats, wide leg pants and floaty dresses! Bravo.

Hi Fernanda! I really enjoyed this video! It emphasised why I subscribed to your channel and love your videos but have not subscribed to any other fashion / capsule / style channels. Your approach is really thought out, practical, individual and creative while so many other channels just rehashing formula and keep encouraging consumption.

Oh God, blazers! Yeah, everyone tells me I need them and will use them all the time. I've ended up with several and I wear them...never. like, I wore one back when I was interviewing for jobs, but that's it. I'm just not the sort of person that Wants to wear a blazer. And literally nobody in my office does, so I don't have to.

A myth I see a lot is that the items in your capsule should last forever-this just isn't how clothes work! Extremely sturdy pieces that don't get much wear, maybe, but if you have a small wardrobe you're wearing all your clothes and they will wear out. And that's okay! This means we're getting the most use out of our clothes, and allows us to replace them with new items as our bodies and styles change.
