I also think the color Eggplant which is dark and close (sometimes) to black but with purple undertones is a great color.

I *finally* unlocked the mystery of my color palette last year when I discovered that I have an olive undertone beneath my fair complexion! Navy, burgundy, forest green, and lighter muted colors such as seafoam, sage, blush, or cool-toned oatmeal surfaced to my attention as my very best colors! By intentionally limiting myself to these, I can incorporate splashes of mustard or red as accents because I've grounded my complexion with my best colors. To say this has been pretty life-changing may be a bit extreme to some, but it has seriously made things SO much simpler for me -- I have been able to downsize and coordinate my wardrobe to where, yes, it really has altered my way of life!! Loving your filming style and aesthetic; looking forward to checking out more videos 😘

I used to really dislike navy, probaly because people in my life were telling me to wear navy instead of black. However in the past year I have definitely warmed to the colour. I still love black and nothing will be the same as black. However I find navy to be perfect when I want a dark colour but something softer. I especially love pairing navy with black :)

Although I have lots of black, I also own and enjoy all of the alternatives you mention--and now i understand a bit better why! The camel colour that so many influencers seem to favour for warmer skin undertone or more 'soft' colouring does NOT look good on me, but I've tried your trick of wearing it as trousers and it does work. I do wish more companies would make quality winter coats in chocolate, taupe or navy, since that is such an all-encompassing garment. One thing I'd say about the charcoal--which used to be a great colour for me--is that as i've let grey strands grow in my dark chestnut hair, it can make me look more mousy and washed out.

I really appreciate this broader scope of dark colors as a soft color type gal! Black eats me up but I been forced myself to wear it for years because people say it is so classic and “universally flattering”. I have to compensate with so much makeup to go for it but I can go much more bare faced with pewter and charcoal. Keep the color content coming, I love it!

I tend to lean towards brown or coloured liners instead of black as its less harsh. I have had a navy maxi skirt for years and its one of my favourite summer pieces because its chic and goes with everything. I have also discovered this year if you get the right brown tones for your skin tone they are super beautiful. I can't wear too much black without some contrast so I rarely do all black looks or I brighten it with my makeup its learning what works for you.

Black is awful with my Summer coloring, but I do like having a few classic black items. My favorite trick is to wear a white collared shirt under a black sweater or blazer. I also use your tips: adding a more flattering color scarf (I wear my black design on white ones a lot), some bright/light necklace and/or earrings, especially pearls, and more blush and lipstick. I feel very chic in a black dress, I just need to soften it a bit. I also will wear a white or light blazer over a black dress, that helps, too.

Totally agree with you. I wear a lot of navy, charcoal, burgundy, dark forest green, etc. There's nothing like black to have a small capsule for travel. Back makes me look a little tired and older, so getting some scarves or a cape with many colors would be helpful to me. I would love a different color biker jacket! I had a green one I gave away when I lived in the Caribbean, but now being back in a cold climate, I MUST get one again! What's your fabric suggestion if I don't really want a leather jacket or pleather, but still want the style???

This was very insightful, however I am heading in the opposite direction at the moment. After years of style confusion I finally found out that nothing suits me like black does, so I'm pairing down my wardrobe further and further to almost black items only. I still kept a couple of colorful pieces that I really like, but realizing that it's that simple when it comes to colors has made it so much easier to curate my wardrobe ♡

Perhaps consider a color pallet. That has helped me out a lot. I do one for each season. I basically have all seasons as black, cream and some white and then an added color or two for each season. I really like this technique. For spring I have light blue as my added color. I get to mostly wear cozy clothes, so it’s a light blue hoodie. I did get a light blue sweater .. because I have an event to go to.

Navy, navy, navy is my favorite apparel color. I would love to see an entire video on colors which look great with navy for spring. Here in USA it's always navy and white. I just want something different to wear with my navy blazer, navy skirts & trousers and my navy leather handbag. The other day I wore my sage green cardigan over a white shirt with my navy skirt & felt great. What colors look good with navy?🙂
@rebeccab_bwlt2 жыл бұрын
It’s a true neutral, so everything looks good with it depending on what you want to accomplish. Navy and white retains a high contrast, crisp, preppy/classic effect, but if you like brights, it’s a great foil for spring green, hot pink, lemon yellow; if you like more muted options, it’s stunning and subdued with gray and camel.

I love black, it’s so much in my wardrobe, but I really learn to like the alternatives. Blue in all shades are complimentary colors for my dark brown hair and eyes and chocolate is obviously repeating my own coloring ☺️ Last summer I like navy to cognac brown and chocolate brown to coral so much, this summer I will wear the same. What I’m thinking about, is „pewter“ the same as „taupe“?
@katiechasm2 жыл бұрын
good point, to me pewter implies metallic. I have super clear colouring and pewter is probably my worst colour, although crisp white with taupe or something like that is OK
@UseLess_dk2 жыл бұрын
Pewter is called “warm grey” in German which I think is a good indication of the name as it’s a mix between grey and brown. So I guess it’s arguably close to the kind of taupe we see a lot these days, yes. Every brand/company will name the colours differently so I try not to focus too much on the name itself (even the ones in my soft colour palette), it’s the shade that is important 🥰 Signe xx

Thanks for showing great alternatives to black! I do not like black so I only own black shoes(2), satchel, and pant. Everything else is dark and light wash (jeans), beige, cream, white, navy, grey, taupe and camel in solid pants, shorts and tops and printed pants, shorts and tops. Since the pandemic I have donated decluttered wardrobe items and curated an Interchangeable year round wardrobe. No around the house only clothes (sweats) except for pj's so that everything can be worn out. Rosie 👩🦳🇨🇦
