Lyrilusc Independent Nightingale always come to mind when I think of cards like this. That stank bird got both the Tyrant Neptune and Supreme King Starving Venom banned - without even being played in her own deck.

Well it's not like lyrilusc doesnt play it, but it more use for the burn damage as an instant fusion target to later use it for assembled nightingale rather than turbo her out as the boss monster.

I think it's not a case of REBMD being better in other archetypes, as much as other archetypes being better than red-eyes in general. Metal Dragon is really really good in that deck, is just that the deck isn't great.

Yes and no. You can make a link-1 dragon with black metal, search out REDMD, and then ss it, giving you effectively 4 copies in REDMD. Plus you can foolish burial REDMD as a cost with Red-Eyes insight. The card is super accessible in Red-Eyes where, so long as you don't brick, you'll see it pretty much every game. So, you'll see it 4 out of every 10 games :). That being said Red-eyes is Red-eyes, so you're not doing that much with REDMD even if you're bringing it out (relatively) alot.

people give ice barriers a lot of shit even though they're not even close to the worse archetype ever, for example if we held a tournament in MR3 and we had 500 venom players and 32 ice barrier players most of those ice barrier players would top assuming the players are at the same skill level that being said MR4 differently hurt the deck a lot but not at the level where it would be worse than decks like venoms, charmers etc

Maybe it's only warranted to go that savage for a deck thats bad in both live tourney and online play. I've never played live, but i've had reasonable success with ice barriers online.. so they can't be that bad.

Red-eyes darkness metal dragon comes to mind. While I've seen red-eyes decks play it I almost never see it used the same way in other dragon decks, for example in red-eyes they just pull off the eff once to bring back a key card and that's it, while in other decks I see it constantly to extend combos not just revive a monster.

4:06 In the anime it’s effect wasn’t a “per turn” effect at all. Zephyros killed itself whenever you set a card so you could continue to set a card, bounce a card, and reuse it. Anyhow, with Zephyros, you can use it, Bora the Spear and Gale. Say have Simmon normal summoned, search Oroshii, go into Chidori. Normal summon Zephyros, search Gale, Summon Gale, use its effect, half it’s attack, have another tuner on board, use it for a synchro, bounce Gale, Summon Zephyros, use Gale again, and that’s basically an easy OTK if you go for double Chidori.

the funny part is anime Zephyros is basically made to degenerate loop with Black Winged dragon, it just wasnt obvious since the only time Zephyros appeared was on the original version of BWD which can't FTK. The instant BWD Zeph FTK is technically possible Zephyros is completely gone from the face of the earth

It was funny because we were always trying to hunt for a copy of one. We never ended up getting one though. Gaios was pretty oppressive though.

Dewloren also kinda fits in, for the same reasons as Zephyros. Has rather restrictive materials though. He was also semi-limited for some time so I guess he was used as a 3-of in some weird deck. Right now Dewloren can be used in Adamacia with the field spell and Archfiend's Oath.

6:36 - Kinda. Mostly now in a world where the speedroid link exists and terrortop is at 1. If we are talking about the deck before the limiting of terrortop though, it was BY FAR the best card in the deck, being a one card lvl 2-7 Wind synchro that doesn't require your normal summon. I hope Konami does the right thing sooner than later and gives our spinny boi an errata that makes him lock you into Wind for the turn so he can stop seeing play in other decks and therefore is able to be unlimited.

@@mariopekle Dude for terrortop I just want it back as it is. Locking it to winds just limits the ceiling for the card in it's very own archetype. In speedroid, terrotop is the monster that is going to let you summon those level 8/9 synchros if you have a little bit of set up in grave. Many times I have used terrortop to go to scarlight for board wipes, the level 9 crystron dude that banishes, black rose moonlight when I need that bounce option. In my opinion semi-limit the card and it would be gold.

@@orchidquack the "history of the game" doesn't matter, the card is too good to be at 3 as It is and probably will never go back to 3 unless it's errata'd. The card was made for speedroids and as a somewhat generic way to help wind decks. At 1 It fails to do any of that appropriately. Terrortop is no chaos emperor dragon, It belongs to an archtype and It has no business being abused by non-wind and non-synchro based meta strategies like zoodiac, salamangreat and burning abyss. Also, konami doesn't like the ideia of keeping so many cards on the forbidden and limited list for so long, that's why erratas exist and honestly archetypal cards should never live on the forbidden and limited list, they should ALL be errata'd. Generic cards however, It depends, like chaos emperor who didn't need it.

I've always seen the game as if I was like a final fantasy kind of character or a summoner from league of legends with the monsters as my minions and spell and trap cards are my special abilities.

I think there should be a distinction made between a archetypal cards that happen to (a) randomly be good in one other unrelated archetype (magicians' souls in spyral) (b) be good in a ton of other decks besides their archetype (isolde in warrior decks). Since magicians' souls is sorta the figure head for this video idea, I was hoping to see more of type (a). Since people are bringing up so many examples, possibly the sequel video could do these two categories separately

If you are looking for some older examples for the next video then laggia and dolka are some pretty good examples from the early zexal era, abused by dino rabbit and pretty much any dino deck ever but not very scary in evo-(tile/saur). Also one of the best examples is fire formation - tenki, literally abused in every beast-warrior archetype like lunalight and zoodiac, clearly good in its archetype, but better elsewhere

I have two nominations. 1. Gamaciel. Kaijus were meant to be their own deck, but turned out to be used by everyone as one of the best removal cards. 2. Rekindling. The best card in the Flamvell deck, this was their endgame goal. But Fire Fists were just the better deck, and they used it as a combo extender. In fact, a lot of Duel Terminal archetypes fall under this category. Mist Valley (Apex Avian), Genex (Undyne), and Constellar (Pleiades) all are decent decks with one or two good cards that just get used so, so much better by better decks.

Dont forget pendulums. Magician souls is free link fodder for Crowley or IP since it's a spellcaster and it sends your pendulum archatype continuous / field spells for a pot of greed to draw more spells for counters. Card is literally insane.

I know there's a LORE reason why the Ice Barriers suck at summoning their synchros (they're an order dedicated to stopping the dragons from ever being released, so naturally they would have no synergies with them or synchro specialties) But like, maybe don't put lore over effects?

In the case of Ice Barrier, they should have been two Archetypes instead of one. One themed around dropping the Synchros and one Anti Synchro one themed around main deck bosses.

Well Ice barriers can summon their dragons if they manage to establish a field. But I dont know if they are supposed to do that lorewise. A few modern support cards could make the deck decent easily singe most of their abilities are incomplete. They have protection but not against enough things, they have setups for lockdowns but they are never complete. It seems like there are cards missing.

Gagaga cowboy is especially interesting because the Gagaga/Utopia deck aims to deal massive amounts of damage, ranging from 4,000 to 10,000 depending on the card. Your opponent will almost never be sitting at 800 lp in a duel like that, so gagaga cowboy has no real place in the strategy. I'm happy that Gagagas are finally hitting their stride with recent support, since it's truly a fun deck that was never quite good enough. Maybe they'll make it as a rogue deck in mr5!

yeah because ice barriers best card locks them self out of synchro summoning their monsters and due to that ice barriers are considered more a rank 4 and maybe rank 2 deck that makes toad and stuff but unfortunate MR4 really hurt that deck even from a casual side

Honestly it always feels weird callinG REDMD a Red Eyes card since it actually was older than the times when Red eyes being an archetype is even a concept. Historically it was mostly known as the only card that makes Dragon even viable before Konami buffed Dragon types in recent years

Here's another topic for a video, archetypes that need their own fusion spell, if relinquished proved that you only need 2 fusion monsters to have your own archetype related fusion, here's my pick. -Blue-Eyes: the new blue-eyes monsters searches poly... are you serious konami? -D/D: they have their own fusion spell in the anime. -Amazoness: the fusions are crap but konami releases them for some reason so I hope they bring us a good reason to play them. -Archfiend: with the new summoned skull fusion monster I ask myself why?

Generic-semigeneric Extra Deck monsters can be good in whichever deck. If another kind of Monster or S/T is like this I’d be hard pressed to say they planned it to be like this.

I can see your point with Zephros, but imo it's still great in blackwings, because Gale the Whirlwind is not once per turn You can NS a Blackwing, SS Gale, trigger Zephroz to pop Gale back to your hand, then SS Gale again That's one of my favorite things to do in Duel Links at least :/

Plus if you throw blizzard the far north in there one could use the same Zephros as Synchro material 2 or 3 times in one turn, back when the master rules allowed that, which they soon will again.

Deperado barrel dragon is amazing as a generic dark machine boss monster but isnt helpful in a barrel dragon deck. Hell it was a competitive deck in duel links as well if that somewhat counts Day 11 of waiting for dream mirror support...and i guess barrel dragons as well

You could have gone a step further and just mentioned the entire ice barrier extra deck lineup. The tiger synchro is still limited and the level 7 dragon is pretty solid. Its pretty insane that 3/4 of ice barrier synchros have been on the F/L list when the main deck is so underwhelming
