I think trading is fun at a locals level. I've never went to events to trade but at my locals, everyone just looks up card prices when trading and when I "minus" by trading my 2 dollar card for 12 cards that equal 1 dollar and 27 cents, I get asked if I'm sure about that n I'm like "yeah" because what I get is what I need and what I trade away is what I literally dont want ever. The only real issue I have with trading is people who bring binders and have cards there that are NOT for trade. Its so annoying to see a card that I want only to get told that it isnt for trade (even for money).

iMaytriks U I actually hate this. Like as long as it’s not a $2 for a $45 card, nickels and dimes are so annoying. You trade up incrementally if you are a value trader.$1 here or there on a $5-10 card or a couple bucks on the higher end. I’m not saying you should rip people off but the apps make trading a chore. The guy who looks up every value of every card that I want of his in the $2-3 range, (many of which are less desirable than my card) to make sure it equals the value of my $15 rare is so annoying.

I’m actually glad you posted this video. So many of my friends have been scammed over the years through trades. Also, I did have a really bad experience with one trade that stopped me from trading with random people ever again. Basically I started YuGiOh at the very beginning, skipped GX, and joined in again at Synchros. Had no idea what was good or even what Synchro summoning was. Pulled an Infernity Barrier. Had 4 people swarm me over this card. I asked for help in getting into synchros and what was good. A guy traded me a huge stack of Yusei related cards, which I couldn’t use any of them it turned out except Stardust Dragon. He immediately went to another table, told people about the trade, and they all turned to me to laugh and make fun of me. I honestly didn’t care about the infernity barrier or the value, did it did teach me a lesson which you did bring up in the video.

That may not always be the case. It depends on what cards you are looking for. For example, I was once forced to fork up $6 for a Witchcrafter Golem Aruru, even though it was only worth $2-3 max (The guy told me it had sentimental value to him, hence it being overpriced). However, I needed it for my deck and it was the first one I saw. Even the card shop didn't have it for sale. The point being, you sometimes need to trade or buy a card off of someone else because you can't buy the card from a card shop if they don't have it. Trading can be easier than buying and vice versa. At the end of the day, it's all about luck. Even what you pull from packs is all about luck (The exceptions being the guaranteed cards that Konami states for a set, but they rarely ever do that).

My son and I used to bring about 7 binders with us when we would attend a local for trading. I've always watched very carefully and this one guy (whose face I'll never forget) kept taking my cards and putting them in his piles that he already had out. I LOUDLY called him in front of the entire group which he denied but I made him go through all the piles. We found all but two cards (which totaled in value to about $15). I've never allowed people to pull cards out since. Also, shame on all those individuals you take advantage of young or new players. What the heck is wrong with you!?! Again, great video. Older people ripping off younger or newer people, like at my sneak, where a prismatic was sold for 50 bucks, is one of the reasons i hear when i ask why people leave the game, or leave the trading scene. The biggest reason I don't trade is like you said, time is wasted but you didn't really go into more depth on that. What typically happens when you trade is you take out some cards you want. but then you have to check the prices for each card. Then after however long that takes, usually the prices don't line up perfectly. So then you either have to try and find more cards you want to work out the difference (which repeats the cycle of what I just said before) or you just don't trade and all that time got wasted for nothing.

Last time I ever traded was at locals a year ago. I simply couldn't find anything to trade, that a new player wanted for this isolde in my binder. Between every round, we had to stop, take another look, and look up prices, but then I had to start the next round at locals. The entire day was just weird, inconvenient, and awkward. I never wanted to put myself, or that kid through that again. I either had to start giving out cards for free, spending way too much time looking up prices, or simply just stop trading altogether. Didn't work out for me, but I'm sure everyone is different.

I'm really only a collector, so I go with whatever pulls I get from packs. If I get multiples of the same card but they're from different sets, I keep them all as the values can be quite different, rarities for the same card in different sets can change quite a bit at times. I might have gathered 8,000 cards total so far, with maybe 5,000 cards with different names. It's worked well for me so far. I keep my second+ copy of any card from a set in a separate binder, and whenever I have some to sell I go through buylists. I've yet to sell in bulk, as I fear the amount of money I'd get in return would not cover the overall costs needed to ship all of those cards. I have way too many cards (and way too many commons) and keeping track of every card's rough value for trading would be a nightmare, so I prefer not to do trades either.

The only time I usually trade is to rarity up stuff in my deck. Typically I will buy the cards I need it the cheapest way possible, and will just accumulate the higher rarities through out a few weeks. I usually get a few packs here and there cause it is fun opening them with friends, but typically I just buy what I need online. Also as for the binder thing. Only let 1 person look at your binder at a time, and stay close to it. Make sure anyone who is looking at your binder has your permission first. At my locals it is typical for anyone to ask before looking in someone else's binder, but I have been to some events where people have just grabbed my binder after their friend was done looking at it. Luckily nothing g bad ever happened to me, but some of my friends had cards swiped from their binder before and there was no way of telling who did it.

Man I am not going to judge you because I am kind of in the same boat myself recently. I am 40 years old and I have been playing Yu-Gi-Oh roughly since the beginning.....so I can honestly say I have some experience in everything you talked about. But recently I found myself being a little reluctant to deal with anything YUGIOH related. In the past I used to bring a 3 ton binder with every card imaginable and it...lol. But as time progressed I wanted to improve on myself so I watched videos that had people explain certain protocol and how to be more considerate to potential traders. In the past I would find myself spending more time negotiating trades and I totally understand what you meant by people who are basically predators feeding off inexperienced players or Yu-Gi-Oh collectors in hopes of getting a score out of them. I am remember one time a long time ago.... at the time Synchro summoning was really big. And one of the hottest cards on the market was fable Raven. So one day I went to a small tournament in hopes of trying out some of my new decks and also hope to get some decent trade with cards I had too many copies or was not interested in making a dick out of them. What is one guy asked if he can see my binder and he gives me his binder. Immediately I spotted his copy of fable Raven....(mind you he had a dozen copies)....so I immediately took it out of the sleeves and ask if he was willing to trade. He told me that that card was worth a lot of money and he would need a lot to justify treating it. So I told him to go through my binder. Well roughly over 30, possibly 50 minutes went by. And this guy took out a lot of cards to the point where I was starting to feel a little bit of pain.... but in my mind I figured as long is I can get at least one copy of fable raven.... i'll live. Why is he holds roughly 50 or 60 cards varying from rarest to ultra secret and even one ghost rare. I asked him if we could trade now and he telling me.....that this huge stack of cards he took out of my binder doesn't come close to the cost of the car that I wanted.....then he tries to pawn off cards from his binder that he knows I already have copies out or is not interested in. Needless to say I was so upset by this man wasting my time then I just packed up my car and left the tournament without playing any cards at all.....😡 Anyway years later I have finally organized myself by buying higher quality binders and have also even organize them to the point where it's almost like I'm a walking Yu-Gi-Oh table of contents!...lol Seriously I have five binders that are color-coded. Each one has a little tab on the spine of the folder that has a little dot which represents what cards are in them..... Synchro and fusion?..... One white circle and one purple circle. Spells and Traps?....One green circle and one purple circle. And in case you're curious pendulum cards are a circle that's half orange and green. So yeah I'm pretty organized. But based on what you just said maybe I'm too organized. I've noticed for a while now that instead of coming to ask me what kind of cards I have people tend to just flat out ignore me. And I think it's because they don't want to deal with someone who knows exactly what they're doing they want to go after the weaker people. The wolves want to go after the sheep.....they do not want to go after the bear!...lol So it's because of this I don't really go trading or go to tournaments anymore. Just coming back after like a year hiatus and selling all my expensive cards at peak value (which was dope making like $500 towards wedding deposit ) and now I have basically an empty binder and no cards (besides my BA deck , Harpie deck , and fiancés toon deck ) and after being back at my locals again I agree I just don’t have the time to thumb through binders . Just buy what I need and sometimes split a box with a friend if I feel like opening packs . I’ll never understand buying a box to refill your binder .

I got my playset of Impermanence by trading with 3 different people on the internet because I don't have any other options. And as long as you have a trustful trade partner, that's fine

What's really hard to do is plus without ripping people off. In the past I've tried to buy singles online for less than market price so I can trade them at or slightly above for a profit. A quick check of TCGplayer keeps you from getting ripped off or unintentionally making enemies.

I don't have locals near me but rarely I go to one 1 hour away from me. The only trade I did was 2 months ago, I gave a Sphere Mode, a Beelze of the Diabolic Dragons, a Dark Master Zorc and a Silent Magician LV8 for a Knightmare Unicorn and a Knightmare Phoenix. I don't think it was a bad deal I mean

I used to trade at my locals a lot, but got ripped off one too many times because when you're a broke high school student, you can't afford to buy new cards, no matter how cheap they are and just decided to give up on trading as a whole

@cheesebuger135 жыл бұрын
What I do if I trade is always look for something specfic. I always ask the person I am doing business with if they have a specific card(s). I personally don't do it very often and usually buy the singles. I also don't trade with random people if I do.

At the Chicago tournament I tried to get ash blossoms and traded my super kiju meck and psychic blader just to find out they were ghosts reapers... I was so devastated. (Thank you for signing my chaos sorcerer at that event) Also NECROFACE, back to 3, come on konami!

'.' gren maju doesn't even use necroface anymore, it's pretty much just a metaphys card now, & for necroface control, which only works at timed irl events , it's a LP stall/deckout deck & not very good, ig it should be at 3

I feel you bro. Last week at locals someone wanted to have my Pistol Dragon(mrd) and Blowback dragon in NM- i just needet vishuda playset and he annoyed me 45 minutes. I wanted an even trade so i offered him few cards + Blowback dragon without the pistol dragon. In the end he didnt want to trade because i didnt give him the Pistol dragon which is alone worth at least two playsets of vishuda...

From what I hear in the yugioh community、 its taboo to price things as you're trading. I personally dont understand that because as a magic player、 we price as we trade all the time. Knowing the "value" of a card means nothing if they you dont know the actual price of the card. It would negate all the price cheating people do when trading with an inexperienced player/trader and it gets rid of bad feels when something happens in the market to spike or tank the price of a card.

Every single time I've traded at locals, I've gotten scammed. One guy even bragged about it to his friends after. And yeah, after a certain point, it's certainly my fault. The one problem is, I have terrible connection at locals, so I can't look up values on the fly. I have to shotgun a few, and hope I get a decent price on the rest. I'm so nervous even pulling out my trade binder now. I've put some valuable stuff in there.

I'm a Magic player, not a Yu-gi-oh player, but I've historically gotten the most mileage out of using online card prices as a reference and trying to set up trades that have specific value for each participant (i.e. "I want that card right now for specific reason X"). Much more satisfying that way.

I feel ya I mainly just buy and sell. I don’t really do the sealed product thing either as outside of prize support I just buy singles and don’t risk the value loss. Also I don’t actually play yugioh nearly to any kind of level I used to but for all the other card games I play it’s just worth it more to get singles.

Lol I remember playing sealed packs tournament and pulling 40$ x saber card at the time. Suddenly like 5 people I didnt know wanted to trade it and gave all sorts of bad offers, I had no idea about the price, but I said "ok meet me here next week", and that was a right move, because I checked ebay at home. Tbh I dont remember if smartphones were widespread at that point, its like 2009

I have a friend that always use to say that if we trade cards they have to have around the same price value, and I was like "c'mon man... If you want to have my card and I want to have yours forget about the price" and I said it in both cases, when his card was the expensive one or when mine was

My main reasons to trade (and I do very rarely) are to A) socialize and to B) grow the community. I don't trade for profits except if someone is aware and willing to let me profit. I rather trade to help newcomers get into the game a bit faster. Just last week we build a deck for someone that basically just had a pile of random stuff. There was nothing of real value in there, but I found some of the Dracoslayer cards and thought that it would not be too bad to have those for experimenting. So I traded those cards for some fundational main and extra deck cards like Tornado Dragon, Decode Talker some level 4 monsters that can provide field presence and some other cards that are just worth playing, especially for newcomers. The guy went in with a pile of shit and came out with a better deck and an extra deck that he could actually use.

Something else to consider is pressure when trading. You feel pressured to make a trade if you are looking through each others binders. If you don't come to a trade it creates negative pressure. This usually doesn't exist when trading with friends though. Some people I dislike is when people want to look at your trades but don't offer their own and sometimes when you ask they say, "let me see if there is something I want." It's easier to just say no trades.

I remember I went to my locals me and my girlfriend bought a box each. We pulled two evolzar dolkka a loggia and a rescue rabbit. I really wanted a wind up zenmaines and this one guy he never liked me idk why. He always looked down on me. He traded me a Nordic deck with all the cards. I thought it was a great deal. I later found out that day I traded a few hundred dollars worth of very new cards from the new box. I was unaware of how good those cards were. But anyways that Nordic deck was worth maybe under a hundred bucks. So I felt completely ripped off. Later on I got the new fire fist brother the ultra rare one and sent it off for a trade with some one online. He never held his bargain up and didn’t even send me his card. After that I pretty much quit playing yugi oh in real life. I just stuck to playing online and I was already getting out of the game as people just left and right stopped playing. It was fun but I can see how people can get upset over this game as it is so expensive just to get the new decks and then it will just get banned immediately. But to that guy who ripped me off he acts like such a wholesome guy and acts so nice to everyone else but idk what I did to him to rip me off so much. Some people are just mean and greedy. As for me I always treat people equal even though I was 22 at the time it was better just to move on. But a lot of guys were like that just mean and rude made you feel like crap for playing a certain deck or just because you wanted to use certain cards in your deck. I still played online I got really good at deck building now when I play online I usually go undefeated for a while in whatever I build but I mainly play for fun. I sold all my cards for less than 200 buck but they just gave me really bad memories of all the times people would pick all my best cards but wouldn’t trade me anything worthwhile. But I had a blast even though I spent at least 2 grand in over a year maybe even four. But now if I was to get back in the game I am a much smarter player in all games in general I know what’s going to be good and what’s going to get banned because I now know of yugi tubers and what not any ways stay safe in your trades everyone take it from me cause I kind of regret giving away all my cards.

I 100% with you about buying singles rather than buying packs just to get trade baits. It's really funny how people don't really keep track of the money they are spending. But dzeeff is right about scamming during trading. There are people at regionals who just want a lot of the cards you want, but sometimes they do that make you lose track of the cards you are trading away. Trading at locals is much easier (of course assuming everyone is moral)

How can you say “trading is free”? You have to get the cards to trade first. At some point, unless you got cards as a gift, trading isn’t free. I remember back in the day I traded using a different method. I gauged value not monetary but how useful the card was for me and/or my trading partner. I got some really great deals back then.

Now that you say it, trading now seems stupid. I barely buy sealed products as it is. The only sealed products I buy is for stuff I want for my deck. But more often than not, I just end up on the short end of the stick and buy what I need anyway. Kinda seems counterintuitive to the spirit of a trading card game but you’re right.
