The whole "enchantments entering don't target" rule was so mind boggling to me when I built Brago a few years ago. Love Diplomatic Immunity.
@g4greed5023 жыл бұрын
currently polishing my voltron brago deck: very useful info
@navo62833 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that Brago can't target Diplomatic Immunity since it has shroud itself. It is pretty good in Brago if you never plan on targeting Brago, or Diplomatic Immunity with Brago's triggered ability.
@connergish90603 жыл бұрын
Honestly that rule is so dumb and should be changed..... Not because it is broken (though iv been reality acid'ed enough to hate it for that alone) but because it doesn't make any sense. If casting the aura requires that you target /have a legal target that means the act of casting gives the target. If it enters without casting it should then just fizzle and go to the graveyard because it didn't have a target so it is not enchanting anything which is illegal. It's like saying if you give everything shroud you can ignore shroud and literally no one would think that is the case. Why auras would have his rule makes no sense..... That's why half of the cards that mass reanimates enchantments makes non auras enter first then auras. Cause then you might bring back an Enchantment creature who could be the target of the auras.
@navo62833 жыл бұрын
@@connergish9060 Actually, I think this makes perfect sense. When you cast an aura, you must select a target as you are casting it, and if that target dies on the stack, the aura fizzles. However, when you bring an aura into play without casting it, it can be attached to a creature you control, but it does so without targeting. This is why it gets around shroud. That said, if a creature and an aura enter at the same time (Brago's blink effect as an example where this might happen.) that aura cannot be attached to a creature that entered at the same time as it did. It must be attached to a creature that already existed as it's entering the battlefield. The reason for this is that the aura comes back attached to a creature, it's not like it enters then you select what creature it attaches to. Anyway, this is why the design makes sense.
@connergish90603 жыл бұрын
@@navo6283 I'd still argue that it shouldn't work (not a confusion of how it actually works.... Just disagreement with how it is currently ruled) . So by the logic of this rule you are ALWAYS choosing and can ignore shroud. Reading the card should explain the card in all situations. If the phrase "enchant creature" means "enchant target creature" it should read as such and not be implied by the rule which isn't written in the card. So either auras must ALWAYS be targeted or NEVER targeted. None of this sometimes this sometimes that. Either it always etbs then you choose what to attach to (functionally the same as flickering now but in every case.... Including casting) or it requires a target... Meaning it can ONLY function if cast or put onto the battlefield by an effect that explicitly attaches it to a creature. This half and half ruling reeks of someone making a card for the game and realizing their card didn't work as intended so they gave a nonsense reason why it would. Again is not that i don't get how it works I just think it is dumb and things SHOULD be consistent. I have similar feelings about the particular interactions between trample, indestructible, damage increasing replacement effects, and deathtouch. It is inconsistent with whether the damage can "see the future" or not. short version. If replacement effects changing damage cannot be applied with the knowledge of the change in mind deathtouch shouldn't be able to assign 1 dmg and move on, because that implies that it can see the future and know that the type of dmg is deathtouch before it is actually applied. And as for the argument that any amount is lethal so you have assigned lethal and move on..... Then you shouldn't be able to trample over indestructible because no amount of damage will ever be lethal and the trample damage should be able to see the future like deathtouch and be forced to continue adding dmg to the indestructible target since they will never reach lethal. It's just inconsistent. Not confusing..... I just feel like cards shouldn't behave differently in different places and that similar rules (rules related to damage assignments) shouldn't change how they behave individually.... Either all one way or another and it is just a personal gripe of mine

I main Lavinia. I tried Dream Halls a while back. The deck plays a lot of colorless cards and the commander doesn’t have card advantage on her. Most of the 99 is used for stax and land hate rather than card draw. When Lavinia is removed it becomes an enabler for your opponents.

I run Dimir Doppelganger in my Sidisi mill deck to exile creatures from my opponent's graveyard when I mill. I run Dire Undercurrents in my Alela faerie tribal deck. Each time I cast an artifact, or enchantment I get a blue faerie, so I draw a card. It literally translates as "I cast an artifact/enchantment, I make a faerie, I draw a card". It's a really good fit. Plus I run Oona and Bitterblossom to make use of the black side of the card.

If Dreams of the Dead worked the way you said, where you could exile the creature you brought back with a blink spell, then you've also forgotten Miss meadow witch who was hybrid blue and white and has the ability 2UW: Exile target creature you control. Return that creature to the battlefield at end of turn. The problem is, exiling a creature causes it to leave the battlefield, so that would still trigger Dreams of the Dead's effect.

Are we sure about that interpretation for dreams of the dead? It says leave the battlefield, exile instead. So wouldn't an exile effect trigger it, but then replace it with a different exile effect that DOESN'T have the return to battlefield clause on it... feel like it would only work the way you said if the errata on it reads "if it dies" Nvm: just read the ruling, it works as you said....sorry for questioning you Demo....lol
@edhdeckbuilding3 жыл бұрын
i'm sure - "If a creature returned to the battlefield with Dreams of the Dead would leave the battlefield for any reason, it’s exiled instead - unless the spell or ability that’s causing the creature to leave the battlefield is actually trying to exile it! In that case, it succeeds at exiling it. If it later returns the creature card to the battlefield (as Oblivion Ring or Flickerwisp might, for example), the creature card will return to the battlefield as a new object with no relation to its previous existence."
