What I love about this movie is that it shows that despite Goodman's character being horrible as hell, his shelter and world situation is real. You can have a world-ending situation AND have terrible people shelter you from it.
@ghani666 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely. A lot of people say the ending ruins the film, and I do find it kind of icky that this script was retroactively mutated to be part of a “franchise” but I actually think the ending works really well. It would be a totally different film of Howard was lying the whole time. The story really only works thematically if she’s choosing to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire. And the fact that throughout all of this, she becomes a “fighter.”

I've seen at least a few reactions very disappointed that the attack was real. It's like if a movie is not a simple marvel style narrative where the good guy is 100% right, the bad guy is 100% wrong and it hits all the expected notes they get disappointed.

The scene of John Goodman unable to see Michelle as a woman, but as a little girl/little princess is one of the creepiest scenes of this entire movie. And the fact that he becomes clean shaven/well dressed after THAT scene scares me so badly.

I prefer the original idea of Cloverfield being an anthology brand where each movie is a new sci-fi story (like The Twilight Zone or Black Mirror). Cloverfield Paradox is a step down but still has some interesting ideas. It was also originally an unrelated movie called ‘The God Particle’ that was retooled. I think they tried a bit too hard to link it to the first two and it becomes a bit of a mess.

But that's basically the case. The movies aren't that connected apart from the whole "alien invasion" element. Even if the third movie tried to connect all the movies with an explanation behind the invasions, it might as well be a standalone story and it wouldn't work better or less. It's basically an anthology series. It makes me think of the anthology series Inside No. 9, where the "No.9" is a visual cue in every episode in a very meta way without actually meaning anything. "Cloverfield", with the way it's used in the titles and in the movies, is very similar. It has basically no meaning in the story, it's very meta. It fits the anthology format.

Paradox _and_ Lane were originally different films, Mary Elizabeth only found out that the movie (and the ending) had changed once she had already started principle photography with John Goodman. JJ Abrams buys up people's scripts, re-jigs them to fit in with Cloverfield, and releases them as part of that franchise.

Never understood the complaints about the Paradox film. I went in expecting it to be terrible because of what I head. It all made sense by the end (was expecting it to not), acting was fine, writing was fine, it links the films well enough with an interesting enough concept. Just don't get the hate this time, genuinely confused by the end. It's still a lower budget feeling affair with the kinds of issues that kind of film can have, but it is solid enough.

This movie is highly underrated and is a noteworthy follow-up to the first film. While the characters in "Cloverfield" were able to roam all over New York city, this one has a much more confined and claustrophobic feeling to it. The whole premise works well because it's a sequel and at the same time, not a sequel, do you know what I mean? It's a little like "Alien" and "Aliens". Totally different in style and approach, yet both are set in the same cinematic universe. Also, a big shout-out to John Goodman. He is an absolute legend! And one more thing; my apologies to Tom. In a previous post I kind of was poking fun at the pictures in Tom's house being crooked. I have since learned that you live in an active earthquake zone, so it really isn't your fault, it's the earthquakes' fault. Sorry, that pun is truly horrendous, or is it? Carry on lads!

The best way I can explain the connection I see from all the Cloverfield movies is this: The satellite that fell in the final scene of Cloverfield was a piece of a Tagruato/Bold Futura satellite that was studying the deep sea after finding massive Clover Eggs and the Parasites. Tagruato was pretending to be a deep-sea oil drilling company but were actually harvesting the sea bed nectar for the addictive property to put into their “Slusho” drink. It was making them millions but when a Eco-Terror group called TidoWave snuck aboard the deep sea “Chuai” station in the Atlantic to discover what Tagruato was hiding, they accidentally woke up one of the clover babies from sleep in its egg. Clover then destroyed the Chuai station and headed West toward New York. (You can find KZbin videos of fake news reports and footage of the chuai station being destroyed) The events of Cloverfield show a baby Clover attacking NY after Tagruato/TidoWave accidentally woke it up. The baby is confirmed to be dead by J.J. Abrams at the end of the movie but there were many other clover baby eggs under the sea still. This is why the humans covered up what happened in New York and continued to live as if no new threats existed. From 2008-2016, no attacks had happened and Tagruato continued to function entirely unpunished. (Freak accident by unknown creature Clover) The alien force in 10 Cloverfield Lane the. arrived to find their baby clover eggs in 2016; and when they had discovered that the humans killed one of them a few years prior, they launched a full scale invasion that we see in 10 Cloverfield lane. Howard Stambler was a major conspiracy theorist following the events in New York from 2009 and had reason to believe the aliens were coming as he worked for Bold Futura/Tagruato. There is potential for more clover eggs to hatch and lead to Clovers/Aliens vs. humans on that Earth. Paradox is a on different Earth that caused the clover eggs to be spread to every earth throughout the multiverse; due to the particle accelerator explosion. Once that happened, it spread the monsters and aliens across the universe. I like to believe that the Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane movies are on the same Earth. Paradox just explains why they exist on every Earth and explains why the aliens were looking for the eggs.
@leesapollo2 жыл бұрын
Re: theories - there was loads around the first movie. The footage at the end of the movie where they’re at the fair ground on the beach shows something falling from space and splashing in the ocean. Some think it was a satellite. Others believe the monster came from the ocean and was awoken with humans dredging the sea bed - apparently it was a juvenile spooked looking for its mother when wreaking havoc in NYC. Which left the question to “where’s its mother” open for a sequel.
