Stan Lee used to insist that Uncle Ben Parker and Bucky Barnes would never be resurrected. Now, with Stan gone, it's one out of two. Bucky's return seems to have been generally approved of by readers (I haven't read any comic he's appeared in); and thankfully, Marvel still gets that bringing back Uncle Ben would undo Peter's whole raison d'etre for becoming Spider-Man. I hope it stays that way.
@alnu83552 ай бұрын
@charliedogg7683 difference between Bucky (and arguably his DC counterpart: Jason Todd) and characters like Uncle Ben, Alexandra DeWitt, Thomas & Martha Wayne is that the latter characters specifically died for the development of their heroes. Still, Bucky and Todd stayed dead for quite a while.

I was a rabid Marvel fan at the time this comic hit the stands, and I was so ticked off that Crackajack died in the same issue where he was introduced. He was very different from the typical Hulk supporting characters -- not a military or science person. Crackajack was basically an itinerant singer/dancer/musician, and he immediately became Hulk's friend -- when Hulk needed a friend! I thought Crackajack was way, waaaaay more interesting than the goofy yellow Canadian claw guy they brought in a coupla issues earlier. But no one else seemed to agree. That still bums me out.

I think there's a pretty strong argument to be made that Junior Juniper was based on Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. -- JFK's older brother, who died piloting an experimental aircraft back in the '40s. Bringing characters back is one of the things that keeps super hero comics from evolving and growing as a medium. We should be at least on our second Spider-Man and our third Batman by now... @alnu83552 ай бұрын
Paul obviously. But... Can I raise you a "Characters who should be purged because their pressence is just redundant?" Nearly every legacy character there currently is. I only make an exception to the GL Corps characters because their whole concept allows for that. Even then, there may be too many Earth Lanterns around. In fact, if there was a crisis I'd actually buy, it'd be a "Who does the bell toll for dear readers!? You decide!" Each issue would come with a code to scan that allowed for one vote. The story would'nt be vs. But written in such a way that only one of two prominantly featured characters survive. Jason Todd or Dick Grayson? Tim Drake or Daimien Wayne? Kyle Rayner or Simon Vaz? (I'd put Jessica Cruz there but we know she's too popular, still, maybe some of the other earth lanterns). Barry Allen or Wally West? (Vote for Wally to live! Barry was a better Flash in death, you know it's true, deal.) Wallace West or Bart Allen? Johnathan Kent or Conner Kent? Connor Hawk or Roy Harper? Donna Troy or Yara Flor or Nubia? Obviously this should come up with an editorial mandate that these characters will stay dead. And no, for the most part, the main legacy characters will not be up here because we know their deaths could never stick. If DC REALLY wanted to drive up sales, they could do this, and clean up their universe a bit without reseting the timeline. And yes, Marvel could (should) do this too. There are too many characters. I know a character is always someone's favorite but too much redundancy is not helping and why not make customers feel the're apart of the story? Someone has to go and comic sales are not that great. We don't need 200 varients of Robin-adjacent characters occupying the same space on the same Earth.

Because if you count the alternate universe Gwens, then you have to strike Ben from the list because I recall Ben Parker was the Spider of Marvel Universe 001. I don't see anything online about Gwen really coming back, but I could be wrong. I just find it hard to read any Spidey stories past the year 2000....so I am a little behind. :D
