Well said as usual 👏 sometimes the things that work for a lot of other people don't work for us. We keep trying, exploring, pressing onward, challenging ourselves and growing, and on that way we eventually find what works for us. I think this mentality can apply to multiple aspects of life, as within so without and all.

Interesting video! I'd like to hear more about how we do magick every day and don't know about it. Is there anything I could watch/listen to that discusses this?
@artawhirler11 ай бұрын
Magick is basically influencing reality with our minds. And we all do that. You're at the library looking for a specific book and then you see it lying on a table right in front of you. You're thinking of someone and five minutes later, they call you. You're trying to think of a solution to some problem and it suddenly flashes into your mind while you're walking the dog. That kind of thing is real-life magick and it happens to everyone. But you can train yourself to get better at it. Any able-bodied person can play a sport. But if they practice, they can get good at it. That's what Denis meant when he said that doing magick isn't a choice - GETTING GOOD AT IT is a choice. 😊

Yea, this one is on fire! It all seems like it goes without saying, but it's a solid list that many may not realize. Chapter titles skipped "Not 100 Years Old" in the description. Speaking of which, those groups of course were pulling from thousands of years prior - but it certainly didn't end in the 1900's, so point well taken. Like, who's to say a modern Dee isn't about to discover a new Enochian language?

I'd also add magick is not *entirely* a coping mechanism for mental illness. There absolutely are self help elements in magick, but it seems like a lot of new age practitioners think all of these magickal or spiritual systems exist as a way to overcome depression or trauma, or get over an ex partner. You haven't achieved enlightenment because you set a personal boundary. I think this goes in hand with the "vending machine" mentality.

Fantastic video as always, thank you. But I have a bone to pick with the idea of magick not being art. I agree that it isn't and aesthetic or a lifestyle accessory, but art is not simply pretty (or edgy) pictures. For an occult artist, art and magick work together in a beautiful symbiosis. The artifacts that you speak of here, the material and residue of actual magical workings, are how many occult artists would contextualise their work. The work of A O Spare would be a perfect example of this. Gast Bouschet's work would be another.

The last point does make sense, but personally I wear sigils on my jewelry and my hat to go to the gym. For me it's literally me practicing Magicka. It's a remind when I see these sigils as well as how I conduct myself. I use Magicka as a tool to better hone my character and resolve to achieve my set goals. Seeing the sigils of the deities I work with rekindles that reminder. Also I find those who don't align with my perspectives and life style approach make themselves known or don't approach. Which is lovely for me.

Very true. I remember researching the old Sumerian religion and magical rites - because the older the magic, the better it is, 'more powerful' right? Right? lol - until I tried Chaos Magic. Today I agree with you and the other comments here that we should stick with what works for us. Another good point is that it's simply impossible to prove anyone outside your belief system that magic works. It's a waste of time. You may cure some sickness people have, but they will ASAP kneel before their own gods to thank them for the "grace". Ok, in a sense (beyond what religion says is god) they're ultimately right. But my point is that they don't acknowledge the magical effect, although they are eager to accept the supernatural religious effect, as long as they put the power outside of reach of any human, including themselves. "Lets God have the monopoly of power" they may say... It's a personal inclination. Some will believe in magic, some don't.

In HeKa it is practised that there is no separation of academic study and the spiritual powers. One is neccessary to complete the other. For instance the word "scien" in latin means knowledge of self, "scien se" (science), means let them know themselves. Religious orgs effed this up.

Might I suggest to any serious and dedicated practitioner, new and old, who still have misconceptions about the nature and "goal" of magick to get a copy of Crowley's Book of Thoth. Once I realized the beauty & simplicity of the Great Work it was really as if a PKD Valis type beam brought my Being to life. Magick is something that is within yourself. I learned from the sacred magick of abremaline the mage. I didn’t have any tv no computer or anything electronic. I read through the entire book during 2007-2008 thanks to a witch who had told me that the methodology presented in this book was as valuable as your own mind. I started studying the great grimoires of Solomon and others. When I learned about kabbalistic magick and philosophy I started to understand that Solomon was a practicing wizard of planetary magick.

Yes I agree with all those points. One thing I have noticed however is how there seems to be a lack of discussion upon the crossing of the abyss and breaking the ties that bind. Ie. Ouroboros . (I made a reference on another comment section to a bit back I know ) but apart from Damien Echols I haven’t actually seen or heard any other magickians speak of it. I mean surely it’s the point of the great work? Everything else we manifest and elevate is a convenient bonus really. I may be wrong but it’s curious to me.
@FoolishFishBooks11 ай бұрын
I'm not sure it's the point of the great work as much as it is the condition for the great work to begin... But now we're using terms that mean different things to different people in different traditions, so I'm not sure how helpful my response can be.
@rach62311 ай бұрын
@@FoolishFishBooks 🙂Thanks Denis.
@mckinleaf11 ай бұрын
I don't think that's the point for a lot of people. Firstly because that's kabbala, which is only one stream of magic (I'm focused on the PGM, for example, the Greek Magical Papyri, which don't have an "abyss". Neither does hoodoo or witchcraft). They don't even have anything they would define as "the great work", since that's from alchemy. And then even within traditions that use a kabbalistic framework, some say it's impossible to cross the abyss before death. (That often depends on whether they view the tree of life as primarily macrocosmic or microcosmic). So people aren't talking about it because they're not operating in the same tradition as Damien Echols

I have been attracted to the field of Magick for a very long time. Due to education and upbringing, I was put off due to scary stories about going to hell and other ridiculous notions . I find myself again looking into starting a magical practice but have had a kundalini stirring/awakening (yes, I'm quite serious) and feel energy/Chi/Qi as a very buzzy sensation in my feet and spine, it's been 7 years since my rising. I'm concerned about using energies that I have little understanding of and wish to proceed responsibly, if anyone has any opinion they would like to voice? I'd appreciate any tips/hints/suggestions from anyone having the right knowledge/experience.

I had no results with that GoM book. Have been using Success Magic with results though. I might add other set in stone rules aren't even always true. If you share a space with a person who is messy and it is having no negative affects on your practice, then cleanliness may not be a 100% set in stone rules either even if it is always preferred.

Dogmas are useful as long as they are understood by you at the spiritual level. The reason the traditions passed on by the church are appreciated by many, one being revelation, in which many just find this tradition actually useful , and despite their earlier rebellion many return. I know, it's not for everyone, but traditions in the spiritual realm can be a great source for inspiration and deification, for those willing to see. It may work, it may not, what gives strength to these is your understanding, not blind allegiance. Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's good.
