The coolest gadget I can think of is a hand-held XRF Spectrometer, but, oh my, the price...

Great video! I have most of these items on the list, in fact, I should be getting my Radiacode 101 in the mail tomorrow. Who doesn't want pocket-sized gamma spectroscopy! That N2000 Chromatostation looks really cool. I'll hae to check that one out. Thanks Again Vince!

I saw you became a patreon! Thank you so much Adam! Yes this little thing is about 100 time more sensitive than the one we use at work. it measures in microRem/hour ! The mapping feature is pretty cool I take it with me on my daily walk ! let me know if there is anything I can do or you`d like to see covered i`ll send you a message on patreon ! Thanks again !

Super tempted to get the high resolution Raysid for $600, but it's totally sealed! It's going to become a 600 brick when the battery dies! So I guess I will have to go with the Radiacode 101 since I think you can at least pry it open to replace the battery but I really don't like the low channel resolution. Can you even really do true spectroscopy with it? The element identifier looks kind of sketch, with it apparently just assigning certain channels to specific elements without actually using multiple lines to do a true and reliable ID.

Well, I fully charged it once out of the box as recommended and used it a bunch of time including twice when it was on for over 48 hours straight and it sat a few days off n my desk .The battery still says full... The resolution is poor compared to larger crystals as you would expect but it gives a rough idea what radioisotope you are dealing with or at least the spectrum profile can help narrow the search. It came already calibrated but you can change the calibration settings for a better centroid if you want. It is not as straight forward as entering the energy on the peak unfortunately, I was however impressed by the accurate dose and sensitivity (microRem/hour) about 100 times better than the Mirion DMC3000 we use at work. Because it is so sensitive, I really liked the mapping feature when i go on my daily walk, I was actually looking at a light weight portable MCA to launch in a balloon again and see if the 511 Kev line shows up...I`ll try to do that this summer .

what does the N2000Chromatography Data System use an an input?
@Neptunium
@Neptunium 6 ай бұрын
It's an analog input, so it can be anything you want between 0 and 10 or 15v DC. I cant remember the exact voltage. A lot of equipment have analog output ( UV absorbance, vacuum gauge, electronic. Thermometers, voltmeter etc... ) so it can be what ever make sense for your experiment and changes over time.

@@Neptunium so a sort of general purpose MCA?
@Neptunium
@Neptunium 6 ай бұрын
@@project-326 oh no ! There is. I time on the MCA axis! Just like a spectrum analyzer, the signal changes according to frequency. That wouldn't work as an MCA... I am sure you saw the gamma spectacular here : www.gammaspectacular.com/?tracking=640e3944f138c&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwt-OwBhBnEiwAgwzrUt27YSbQXiOSvnKTzHejtmSVu_TosfMaIB1xrl22t6INat7PdjjjLBoCWZQQAvD_BwE.
