Each friday you make people feel on top of the world. Your positiveness, kindness and warmth are really a present for us. You are the ray of sunshine that touches our being in a cold morning and embraces us. The ray of sunshine that makes the flower lives. You are the light that illuminates the darkness of our ignorance. You aren't a hidden gem. You are the gem that everybody sees and wants to achieve. You are the sun that gives happiness to whole people after the heavy rain. That's what you are!!! So Katharine, thank you. Thank you so much!!! Have a wonderful weekend!!! Enjoy your time!!! As a hidden gem, I have the 11th idiom for you but it is usually used by non-British people. It is reflected of British society but I never heard British people say it. Smitten by Britain: When someone is “smitten by Britain,” they are deeply captivated or charmed by the United Kingdom. It is like falling head over heels for the UK’s culture, history, or perhaps even its rainy weather!

Ripple. I once was in a night club, but during the day, because I knew the owner's son, and, I lived nearby, and, I was the only person, there, watching a lady singer, from one of the small island countries of the area, rehearsing, with her band, a song that talked about a stone that's dropped in the still water of a small river, causing ripples, as a way of describing one's state of mind, or what a lady felt in her heart. The name of the song, that's in French, translates into "The Windmills Of My Heart". And, since that day, that song always stayed in my mind, about ripples in a still body of water, when a stone is dropped into it. Small thing, maybe, to remember, but, it has a certain charm to it, to me, mostly because I was all alone, in that big room, watching that lady singer prepare for the concert that was to come. Such a nice experience, that left ripples of emotions, in my heart, when that lady's voice dropped those notes into the lagoon of my ears. Had I gone to the concert, afterwards, that stone being dropped in that water wouldn't have caused the same ripples, to my perception of things.

In 1953, following reports that pro-Soviet literature had made its way into overseas libraries operated by the United States Information Service, a branch of the State Department, the US Senate Committee on Government Operations sent two investigators, Roy Cohn and G. David Schine, to Europe to investigate the USIS stations. USIS librarians began saying things like, "we will continue to meet regularly, come Cohn or Schine."

" Burning the midnight oil " conjures a picture of a university student in the old days , studying with an oil- lamp on the table , that he had to re-fill from time to time , working tirelessly into deep in the night and after mid-night , revising for an important exam he has to pass the next day. BTW I used an electric lamp in the old days , with "just in time " learning those thick medical books .🪔

'Once bitten, twice shy!' We can see in that idiom all the genious that lies in a formula; Its says in only 4 words more than a long sentence of explanation about experience. Maybe you know its equivalent in French? ... here, we don't say 'Une fois mordu, deux fois peureux!' (literal translation), but we have an idiom that bears and conveys exactly the same meaning and this is no less genious ! I let you appreciate: 'Chat échaudé craint l'eau froide!' = scalded cat fears of cold water! A cat having experienced the throes of hot water will even be afraid of cold water (even though it's inoffensive). ❤
