Yeah, but only enforced on the defense. Offensive players lead with their head all the time. Same with illegal hands to the face. People like travis Henry can stiff arm people into a backflip and it's no problem. Even the new kick off rule is to give the Offense better field position. The nfl changes rules to promote Offense that's it, they pretend it is for safety, that's bullshit. The nfl wants new fans and most new fans don't understand football, they only understand scoring. I saw him get fouled and KNEW payback was coming. The same guy lined up and 1 second before the ball moved, I saw Doblers' arm shoot across the Line Of Scrimmage, and grabbed his facemask and Yanked Him Off His Feet...and ripped it off his helmet and dropped it on the turf...Dobler didn't get called for that one, either,

I stopped watching football when more and more rules were put in place because of injury. It's not that I want anyone injured, but the possibility of it happening goes hand in hand with the game how it was created and intended to be played. As for those who hand out major hits. Many later pay a heavy price due to the accumulated damage their own bodies received from handing out such hits. Some shorten their own careers by handing out very heavy hits. Ex-Chicago Bear Doug Plank was one such player. Plank was considered one of the hardest hitting safeties in the game. That effort took a physical toll, and he retired before the Bears reached their peak in 1985. Plank and Gary Fencik were dubbed "The Hit Men." Doug Plank retired at the age of 31 due to neck damage from his head first Kamikaze-style hits and tackles. --- Darryl Stingley died from heart disease and pneumonia complicated by quadriplegia.

That Jack Tatum hit on Darryl Stingley that left Stingley paralyzed - that's the worst on-field injury any NFL player has ever suffered - even worse than Damar Hamlin's cardiac arrest. Luckily that's the only incident that has ever left an NFL player with paralysis. Now long-term brain damage from repeated concussions - that's a lot harder to identify and quantify. But Darryl Stingley just recently died - so he had to live several decades with his injury. I never liked Jack Tatum for that reason. Enjoying your reactions - thanks for posting this one.

I played for 11 years prior to no helmet to helmet. I hate that rule and here is why. For longevity a player would happily take a hit in the head than a hit in the knee. I am no nfl or college player but u can’t hit anyone high anymore so to avoid fines and penalties you are forced to hit them low. Football is violent and nfl is about money, most players don’t have guaranteed contracts so if they don’t play they don’t make money. So a concussion out for a week or torn acl out for a year. Every player will take a concussion. No one plays football saying it is a safe sport and I won’t get injured, it is not if, it is when.

You gotta understand that football is a violent sport, from Pop Warner to the NFL. If you start young, violence is ingrained into you. The only instruction my father ever gave me about football was the day before my 1st game. He told to remember that the other players had the same pads on that i did. Basically saying hit as hard as you can, till it hurts you. Also when you step onto the field you have to develop a certain type of persona. You have no friends, relatives or people you care about other than your teammates. Teammates you defend with your life, opponents hurt 'em if you can but give them something to remember you for.

1) not all these hits were dirty hits, some were legal hits and later the rules changed to make them illegal...if it's legal, it's not dirty. 2) often times there is missing context, like things done or said that led up to the moment a player goes over the line to punish some other player. Many hits are made by a team that everyone knows is an attempt to injure or end a career, and when they do these hits, there is a response that either a player or a teammate will do, and it isn't always on the player doing the first wrong, as many times Defensive players will take out a star because the star's teammates were trying to take out multiple players of theirs. 3) I believe every one of these players, went to SuperBowls
