Greetings from Jamaica. I built a functionally equivalent crosscut guide twenty years ago when I was refurbishing my present home. In spite of having a radial arm saw the parallelogram linkage of this guide proved its worth by being easily portable to anywhere on the job-site. Your guide is beautifully executed and the logical conclusion for the execution of mine which I gave away to one of the carpenters who helped me with my construction project. Well done KZbin video.

Eurekazone easy one was a very thought through system that started with a track bridge. It was developed into many other aspects of woodworking, but unfortunately failed in my mind because of shipping costs. Kreg has since released a version of saw guide that will do this as well for much cheaper, but with drawbacks. This is a decent attempt but also has drawbacks from not being thought out completely.

I had seen but never heard a name for KLT boxes. According to 30 seconds of google-fu in the USA they are sometimes called euroboxes, eurocrates, or straight walled storage totes. Hope that helps anyone looking to follow along.

Both the pantograph concept and the side-mounting of the guide blocks is genius. Many of us have an "L" shaped rip guide made of wood, but suffer from it's inherent drawbacks which this design overcomes. Eureka-zone invented this swing system over 20 yrs ago. Unfortunately with the plethora of track saw on the market they're now out of business. But NO-ONE has ever duplicated their swing system. I still have their 8' work table. I do like that this one uses any track.

PSA: For the DIY Table Saw, Please Create a DIY Blade Guard with a Splitter! The splitter or riving knife is an essential safety device on table saws. A blade guard will prevent accidental injuries by covering the spinning blade, adding an extra layer of safety. Without a splitter or riving knife, "table saw kickback" becomes much more likely. Your workpiece can get caught by the back of the saw blade, pulling your fingers and hand into the spinning blade at lightning speed. This can also shoot your workpiece towards your face or torso at speeds exceeding 150 km/h! Please, save your fingers.

Living in Hungary, I have recognized the salvaged material, I have used lots of it to build sturdy lids for plastic construction industry tubs that now feature as temporary storage in my home (until I have money for proper furniture). I applied a natural wax paste to the non-lacquered natural wood verneer side, which makes it look pretty natural and has a nice tactile feel. It is also sturdy enough to sit on. ;)

The box extensions move quite a bit under operation and would benefit from a piece of triangular bracing to give them more rigidity. That will also help to prevent twisting of the guide rail against the body and prevent problems later. While fiberboard on the extenders is ok for prototyping, it will age and deform under stress and age.

A left bladed saw will allow you to make longer rips. Maybe have 2 jigs . Right blade saw for safer crosscuts, left blade saw for long rips. Love the parallelogram, thats genius. I use a left blade cordless saw with a 3 1/8 inch cut depth on two different guides, one 8 foot and one 5 foot. I can put an 8 1/4 inch blade on my Flex 24V rear handle saw . I may buy the Makita 40V rear handle 10 1/4 inch saw that would give me a 3 3/4 inch depth of cut. I prefer left bladed saws for better view of the cut line. I realize it is more dangerous though. Your jig is awesome. Thanks for sharing the concept.

Very timely publishing, almost coincidental if I mayt say. I just disassembled a few palletes with the intention of creating some DIY christmas presents. The only thing I found lying around is a miter saw. I do have 600mm length of extrusion from another project and I got 3D printing capabilities which will enable me to create a version of this system that'll greatly accelerate my working speed. I've been scratching my head trying to come up with a system like this. Your solution is fantastic in its simplicity: a traditional homemade guide rail coupled to a pantograph. The only tough part is finding a big chunk of caprolon, nylon, etc., since I don't think wood is an ideal material for this purpose.

Oily wood would work but a polymer would be better as it doesn't change its shape with moisture changes.

Yes, I live in a humid tropical environment where wood behaves poorly. so I searched online for nylon bar stock. A suitable blank was a bit pricey for my budget, but then I remembered that somewhere in my junk collection I have a few chunks of HDPE or similar material. For your drill press centering, you can clamp 2 blocks to the drill press table, tap a hole in them, then drive the x- and y-axis block screws to drive your workpiece to where you want it

Fascinating. I'm most impressed by your ingenuity, Max. The pantograph approach, rather than just using a hinge at one end as other multi-function table designers have done must add to the accuracy. The tool you described as an "expander" is generally known in the UK as a reamer.

Looks good. I kind of want to make a small one and use it as a radial arm saw of sorts. This seems to make up a lot of the shortcomings of using a circular saw for general cuts and could surely be improved to make up for any inconvenience left. This could also take the place of a track for a panel saw, but with the added benefits. Easier to line up cuts, clean edge due to it being on the cut's face, etc. (Video asked, so here's some stuff that popped into my head) Smaller version where instead of attaching to a stand of some sort, it's just another board that way it could be conveniently toted around/used without a stand Some form of possibly moving/removable fence/reference surface on the inside (if you're on a jobsite and the smallest thickness you'll be using is 3/4th inch, not being able to close it smaller than that isn't really an issue for example) Spring loaded or some form of cam/clamp that can apply pressure after it's closed to keep it in place for smaller pieces

I would add an angle guide/rail to accurately position the product for cuts offset from 90 degrees. Maybe with a rail attached on one end. While the other end spins on a guide with some sort of clamp. This tool is extremely impressive. I am inspired to make one of my own.

Informative and idea driving video. I have a large 8x4 workbench but because I need it for multiple uses I decided to go with Anti-luce bolts, so, I can remove and add tools as needed. The saw is a great Idea that I can modify to suit my needs as I have been looking into devices that are already set every time I wish to use it. I checked out the KLT/Euro boxes and they are surprisingly cheap, and that's saying something for the UK, as, we are known as Rip-off Britain.

Max...just an FYI for your viewers who would like to save a couple bucks, that rail you made from square aluminum channel, is essentially the top rail of a hanging louver blind for sliding glass doors. I've been using these for 3 decades for straight edges for breaking down sheet goods. I once was a painter and maintenence man for an apartment complex. Whenever I would have to replace a slider blind destroyed by a tenant, I would strip it down to just the aluminum rail. It's essentially exactly what you've made and can often be found in the dumpsters of apartment complexes. And if you just make friends with either the maintenence crew there or the attendant at your local waste transfer station, I'll bet within a week they will have put aside 2 or 3 for you. Just a friendly tip. Thank you for the videos. Keep them coming.
