I have a fun new video idea for you. When the format is winding down or figured out, you can do a top 10 for the highest win rate/best cards in the format. I’m sure a ton of people would be really interested in that

The chaplain is even better because even if you dont get there with the defender theme it is such a potential threat your opp tends to remove it asap. Being a lightning rod that leaves at least 1 flyer behind is pretty good

I actually pulled Lagamos second ability of. My opponent was at 5 life. I used the first chapter of the saga which makes a dragon, to kill almost everything, except lagamos and deal 2 damage to my opponent. Then i used lagamos for lightning strike to deal the last 3 damage.

Yeah, thinking about Phasing of Zhalfir…if you want to phase things, you’re also giving your opponent a head’s up about what’s gonna happen and they have time to prepare too, and possibly even get ready to capitalize on it. I like its take on a blue wrath effect, and am sure it can be set up for, but realizing how much of a head’s up it gives your opponent too…

It's nice to see Green not taking most slots on the list of the first part! This has been a great format, very balanced with very unique archetypes for all colors.

Agreed! I'm also very impressed by how it plays both sides. Aggro/tempo is great in this format, but you can also easily draft 5 colour durdle green.

I think it was difficult evaluating some of these cards this set because so many cards’ value is highly dependent on the archetype you are drafting. And as it turned out, there seems to be A LOT of viable archetypes.

Also with the phasing of Zhalfir, any creatures you phases out don't phase back in until the turn after the board wipe, so your best creature is phased out and your opponent gets a whole turn to attack with however many 2/2 you just gave them

Another big issue with Sheoldred's Restoration is that Urborg Repossession exists at common. It's cheaper, can be fetched up with Micromancer, gains 2 life and can be a 2 for 1 when kicked.

I have come around on the defenders deck. Mostly because of chaplain and the 4 mana colorless 2/4 that tutors a defender. The black 3/3 is still powerful, but I'd pick chaplain over it any day, while the mobile bullwark is nice, but seems largely non influential other than being a 1 mana Defender.

Phasing of Zalfir is a build around and shouldn't be thought of as a true board wipe, and more like Archons or a Humility effect. You really need to either have a substantial amount of token support so that all the 1/1s you give up becoming 2/2s and become able to immediately trade with all your opponent's downgraded to 2/2s,, or be using it more like an Pongify effect where it removes cards like Sheoldred for you.

I agree with pretty much everything... except Founding the Third Path. Both Chapter 1 and 3 have solid return for the value. It is hardly a bomb, but it is a strong role-player.
@derekcline9502 жыл бұрын
I know it is rare but have you played with Academy Loremaster yet? It was wildly underrated. My UBw deck was loaded up on enough instant speed removal (and that flash pair of white 1/1s) that it felt completely one sided. I don't think it is a bomb, since it doesn't do anything when it comes into play. And it isn't the greatest in blue mirrors. But man, it feels like a draw four or five in games where it sticks
@silentfox93592 жыл бұрын
Sheol's restoration is fine but very reliant on you creatures. Getting a bomb creature like Sphinx of Clear Skies back is always great regardless if you kick restoration or not.
@NizzahonMagic2 жыл бұрын
Oh, it is definitely good, but because you aren't likely to have more than one good reanimation target, you still can't really run it, even when you have your bomb.

Phasing of Zhalfir was working for me when I used it while ahead. I'd be one creature wider on the beatdown then use the two phase triggers to phase opposing creatures and keep pushing damage. Then the looming board Wipe would pressure them not to want to play big blockers cause they would just get wiped. It has potential in a red/blue build around to me but not much else

I really, really don't understand keldon strike team, I tried picking it and it seems just unplayable. there are so many 4-thoughness creatures or small 1-power creatures going around that it just never trades with anything, it either dies to a 1-drop and the token it makes do nothing, or it doesn't trade at all. If you have payoffs consistently, maybe it can work, but outside of that very specific archetype it felt horrible

Favorite moment of drafting from this set was when opponent used that flash oblivion ring card on that 3/3 white vigilance creature with the elite spellbinder effect. They attacked with that 2/2 goblin ringleader and a kabu while holding up that 4 mana white board pump spell. They had 5 untapped lands, so destroyed the oblivion ring card and named that pump spell, so they couldn't use it to kill my 3/3 vigilance blocking their 2/2. Hope that made sense. Seldom remember card names, just know what they do.
@mibbzx14932 жыл бұрын
Bro maybe i just think differently from you but id reconsider the phasing of zhalfir card, its adaptable enough & should be use for phasing your opponents creatures away that are harder to deal with for you. Its also nonland permanents so you can phase out annoying artifacts and enchanments on either side of the board like for instants you know a board wipe is coming, and the previous turns you can phase a creature you have equipped so that it keeps the equipments when you phase it out. You can also use it for extra blink/flicker strategies for getting some value from some ETB
@NizzahonMagic2 жыл бұрын
Based on what you are saying here, you don't seem to know how the card works, so I don't think I need to reconsider anything! Phasing out your opponents stuff means that the things you phase won't get hit by chapter 3, so it is rarely worth doing except in cases where it lets you do lethal. Phasing also doesn't do anything with ETB abilities. The creature technically never leaves play or returns to play.

@@NizzahonMagic ahh okn well that sucks it doesn’t retrigger the effects but i still think phasing is strong mechanic, you just gotta know how to use it right! I wouldnt call it trash tho, you’re getting 2 bounce effects and a board wipe for 4 mana! Thats a good rate to me still
