Excellent! Can't wait to try them. They seem to be 4/4 except the 9th, is that 4/4 as well? I guess I will figure it out when I apply it to a song. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Found it, Lee. Looks like you had it under "Rhythm" instead of my "Strumming" search term. Any advice on how to hold the pick and what pressure and motion to use when strumming? When I strum up it doesn't sound like the sound you're getting. I'm not hearing the first three strings as much as I hear the last three strings when strumming up. I started playing with my fingers and just liked the clean sound it produced, in other words, no pick scraping across the strings. Now I'd like to move to the pick for more volume and better control. Also want to prevent my fingers from looking ugly. Thanks for pointing me to this video; your videos are always so excellent!

That's a good point actually I think I'll change it to strumming, thanks for the heads up👍 As far as up strumming you've already answered the question. If you're hearing the last three strings as much as the others and you know what to do, don't play the others as loud. What pressure and motion to hold the pick... really! 2.6 metric tons at a 0.69 degree angle .. yeah I know it's a ridiculous answer, that's because this question is also a bit silly. Enough pressure so you don't drop it and you're relaxed. My friend these questions you asked me are over-thought. The simple truth is you must listen to what you're playing and keep going until it sounds like how you wanted it to sound, I don't normally answer questions like this. Your impatience is getting the better of you, you can watch as many KZbin videos as you like but the truth is is you have to just play, a lot !!! If I was teaching you on a one to one level I would tell you exactly the same thing. Now go and practice like crazy and perhaps find a personal tutor if you're serious about learning the guitar. Good luck my friend😎🎸👍

@@leejohnblackmoremusic Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions, Lee. Playing guitar has been my life long dream. When I asked about pressure and motion, I wasn't looking for physical values such as psi and degrees. You're right; that's really ridiculous. Newbies like me are always looking for those tips and other advice that veterans like you know to help move things along and to be an effective player. You are one of the best people out there providing such information. Tutors and one-on-one instruction isn't something I'm going to pursue. That among other things is what kept me away from learning the guitar for 33 years. It has been the wealth of information on the internet, DVD's, books, etc. that are moving me forward. Trust me, I am serious about this and will take what ever time it takes to learn. I have no illusions about this being easy or like some kind of fast food. Your teaching excellence is getting me excited about learning how to play the guitar. It's making me feel like I can do this, and it's accessible. I've managed to play some of the down strumming songs you've demonstrated. For that and the pep talk, I thank you and will keep watching your videos!

Would you recommend learning to use a pick? I've been playing on and off for years, know a lot of chords and can strum a few tunes, but I've never mastered using a pick. I'd like to play lead and rhythm (eventually), so is being able to pick necessary? I just prefer using my fingers. I suppose it depends upon the individual, but all YT tutors use a pick. This video is super useful by the way. I seem to get stuck in the same two or three patterns and this has really helped me to break out of that 👍

Using a pick has to be relevant to what you're playing, if you can make it sound good without then go for it. Jeff Beck rarely uses a pick but it suits his style. If you want to add more dynamics to your playing I would suggest trying to use one however, you don't have to be the same as everyone else.

There's a possibility you're keeping your pick "stiff." Being able to flow with your pick will help. For example: when you're strumming down point the end of your pick upward and vice versa with strumming upward. Going slow also helps.

Nice Video. But one question. At pattern 10, the "tap". If i try this, my b and e string is ringing. If i try to Hit only the E A and D String for the "tap", the timing for the next upstroke is not fine. Anyone with a solution for this problem? I still despair of it.
@leejohnblackmoremusic5 жыл бұрын
You just need to adjust your technique my friend, you have to slow everything down and watch the position of your hand when it moves, adjust it accordingly. It takes a lot of practice and isn't as simple as people think. Good luck, keep going👍🎸
