The deep growling with a mix of the high pitch screaming from the GE90 never fails to make me smile, awesome! The Trent 1000 is the definition of more scream, less growling, but the XWB-97 takes the cake by having its melodious growl after spool up! The CF6’s silent roar from the engine is my personal favorite, always brings me memories of the 767 and the 747, no high pitch frequency, just the growl. Same with the Trent 700 from the a330, it’s very similar to the CF6, so that’s my second favorite.

I like the P&W from de 747.. the Lord of the Skies. I have a question.. why does every engine sound turn into some kind of loud buzz few time after takoff ? I have noticed that last time I traveled (Trent XWB of a Franch Bee A350-1000) but never before.. I think it's because it's been a long time since I sat right next to the engine..
@TheFlyingFrenchmanHD4 ай бұрын
That loud buzz corresponds to the moment the engine thrust is reduced. After take off, when the airplane is safely in the air, there is no need to keep as much thrust as the greater the thrust, the greater the engine wear and maintenance costs. It helps reduce noise on the ground as well, particularly useful in noise sensitive and densely populated areas.

Anytime there is a vibration, there is a sound. The rougher the vibration, the rougher the sound. Vibration on engines is wear, and also some loss of efficiency. Of course it is impossible to compare this between different cameras, conditions (humidity, temperature), and different seat positions relative to the aircraft engines, let alone variations like fuselage, interior materials, seats, etc., which could affect how sound is amplified inside the aircraft. But if all of those factors could be equal, I'd want a smooth sounding engine, which means more efficiency and reliability.

When I got interested in the engines, I was partial to the RR Trent engines. Somehow RR manages to make engines where the high pitched tone matches in octave with the low pitched tone. On the Trent 9000 on the 380, the spooling up sounds like music. But I noticed that the GE engines on the 787 do almost the same, the only difference with the Trents is that they don't produce the matching octave.
@GreyBearcub11 ай бұрын
High bypass ratio engines sound the best, specially the GE90, Trent 700, Trent 1000 and Trent XWB. The A380 also had good-sounding engines. Call me mad, but this buzzsaw sound, specially at cruise speed relaxes, reminds me of my ceiling fan and the buzz coming from the electric motor driving the fan blades. Without this sound I find hard to sleep.

Question. Do planes take off slower then they use to?? I remember 15 years ago when I was on a plane when they took off it use to push you back in your seat and it felt like you was going 400mph. Now when I travel I barely get pushed into my seat and it looks like we are doing 100mph. Does anyone know if they reduced the speed? I know they use to have the throttles all the way up until they reached their altitude. Now once they lift off they have to pull the throttles back a bit to "climbing power" which is slower than it use to be. Just curious if others felt that. The old times, the plane would push you back in your seat. Now it doesn't feel like that. Maybe I was younger and lighter? idk.
