I have a question: why can we hear engine roar only in the front part of the aircraft?
@FueltoNoiseGenerator4 жыл бұрын
Hey Davide, mainly because the main engine noise comes from the nozzle which is of course a lot more recognizable behind the engine. The sound from the nozzle then suppresses the buzzsaw sound from the fan. Additionally, the wing prevents the fan sound from direct transmission to the aft section. In the front you have unobstructed view of the fan and you are a lot closer. Hope that was understandable ;)

@FueltoNoiseGenerator4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, well. We basically had the same explanation maybe with a different focus.. Bottom line is, roar comes from the fan which is at the front and behind the engines the high current of the hot gas stream suppresses the roar.
@FueltoNoiseGenerator4 жыл бұрын
and the fan does not need to be ‚obviously exposed toward the front‘. Engines with open rotor concept have the fan located at the rear part of the engine.

As much as I love GE engines. RR engines are what I grew up with. Cuz for some reason, the airline I flew on only put RR on their planes, beside thing like 777-300ER which only run on GE-90 specifically. Their B787, B777-200ER, B777-300, A330-300, B747-400 all used RR engines. (Also A350, but RR XWB is the only option for A350 anyway) And I used to fly on them so often that RR engines noise just make me feel nostalgic. (Beside B787 and A350, cuz these are new)

HS-TKB is way older than I thought. It's one of the first 777s. I bet it has either a really old or non functional IFE, just a huge screen for each section, or just no IFE. A6-EBW which I flew on about a month ago *takeoff ~2am Dubai time* on Flight 384 had a really old and glitchy IFE. The front camera was the only one working. We crossed paths with some 777s maybe and another 787, and when I arrived about 5 weeks later I saw a C-17 over a cafe. The engines were noisy. I couldn't film the flight and I lost a tablet on it. Sadly, the flight attendants couldn't find it. I'm moving back to Orlando via EK220/221 and yes, 384/385. Suvarnabhumi to Dubai to Orlando.
