Unlike most other mountain bike product review videos, I don’t get sent product from other brands. Nor do I make any money from KZbin itself. So, all these products I’ve tested for at least a year and mostly use every time I go riding. One could almost say they are essential.
When riding in bright sun, tinted glasses are a nice thing to have. However, when its muddy out these smith squad mountain bike goggles work wonders. Unlike most googles, they’re specifically designed for mountain biking. Even in the hot, humid climate of Australia, I find them near impossible to fog up. This is because of all the ventilation around the google and even the little slits on the lens. The foam is three pieced for maximum comfort however the biggest win is the distortion of the lens. Or should I say the lack of. With most goggles, one needs to bend the lens to get the goggle to fit in the frame. This lens is pre-bent and purposely distorted in the opposite direction. This way when you’re wearing the goggles it’s not distorted. They come in two sizes, regular and xl. However, my only criticism would be the small strap. This can be a good thing if your planning to wear these with an open face lid. But with a full face, the strap doesn’t look as nice. Yes, this is a looks thing.
Here we have the second cheapest bike stand I could find on eBay. It sucks. The bike sways around a bunch which makes me never use the thing. I find it much easier to just put the bike upside down on the floor. The only positive about this stand is the quick-release levers. On many bike, stand’s there're bolt-on. However, on the high-end quick release is the only way to go.
On the topic of the cheapest thing on eBay, this floor pump. I can’t say it’s held me back. Sure, it may take a couple more pumps than the higher end high volume floor pumps. But that’s not worth an extra 100 or so dollars in my eyes. Obviously, it sucks to pump up a tubeless tire, so I usually take it to a local bike shop where they have an air compressor. The pump has both prester and straighter and also a gauge although like 20 psi off. I would put this down to a quality control issue however my friend Harrison has this same pump and the same problem. But that doesn’t matter too much as I have this.
This is a Topeka Smart gauge D2. Same as the pump it has both prester and straighter, however, this gauge actually works. There’s not much to this however I’d wish the pressure updated real-time when using the bleed valve, instead of having to take the gauge off and on again however that’s just a little thing.
If you ride flat pedal, you likely have a pair of the next product. These 5-10’s are about the best flat pedal shoes one can buy. The styling on this pair is perfect for biking or going out. However, may not be as durable. I’ve had the contact version of these shoes which use the grippiest rubber 5-10 makes. However, I grew out of them. So, they’re now my mum’s pair which she’s super stoked about. When I grow out of these they’ll likely go to dad.
On the subject of parent’s, this is my mums retro Oakley’s form like the 1980s. They were the first sunglasses in production with the design coming from goggles. Mum bought them for windsurfing back in the day, and they're still going strong. You can’t buy these however there so cool I thought I’d might as well show it.
This is the F15 multi-tool form crank brothers. I bought it after the man himself Seth recommended it in one of his videos. It works incredibly well with an 8mm, spoke wrenches and a chain tool. As everything is magnetic the tool can be configured like this for leverage. However, there are many multi-tools with more well tools on the market. Making me think twice about my purchase.
Here's my Bell super 3R. It’s protected me from many crashes. The main selling point of this helmet is the fact that it has a detachable chin bar. I mainly use it as a trail helmet however it’s nice to have a full face if you ever visit a bike park. It came with this black bag which I keep all my riding clothes in. The helmet uses MIPS protection. This feature allows the inside of the helmet to rotate on impact. Keeping your head extra safe.
Next in my fox defend shorts. It features two zip pockets and this clamp thing. I don’t really know what to call it. There’re holes in the front of the shorts for ventilation as well. All and all I really like them.
Lastly this product you’ve already seen on this channel. My Dakine Session 8L. I made a video comparing it to a camelback rouge. After, I have some comments saying how they prefer the size of the camelback. The reason I’m mentioning this is because I spent the whole video say how they are the same size. Even though the Dakine can hold twice as much as it expands. If you want to learn more click on this video.
