A theory is that their father KNEW how violent and cruel Sesshomaru could be and KNEW his son would try to kill Inuyasha. So by giving him THAT sword he was hoping to teach him humility, while the Tessaiga would not only protect Inuyasha but harness his demon side so it wouldn't overpower his human.

Actually, you're both right. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru's father had them inherited different swords to teach them compassion and understanding. Something they both lacked in different ways. He also wished for them not to kill each other hence the reason Sesshomaru's sword saved him and acting on it's own accord when inuyasha used the wind scar on him.

For the ones asking about why of each sword: Inuyasha needed protection, being a hanyou (half-demon) and completely human on new moon nights, so his father inherited him with Tetsusaiga. Sesshoumaru was the first born and heir to a vast kingdom and became arrogant, he doesn't need a sword to rule them all, but he was inherited a sword that could only bring back from the dead. So he would empathize and do acts of kindness with no rewards.

pupu830 I always assumed that like with real dogs, it's pretty common for dog demons to have multiple mates who they're not really involved with, but then that brings up a bunch of other questions, like why did Inu no Taishou seem to want to be exclusive with Izayoi when monogamy isn't really practiced in his culture? Do Inuyasha amd Sesshoumaru have other siblings they don't know about? If not, why not? Or maybe Inu no Taishou didn't cheat and doesn't practice polyamory - he and Sesshoumaru's mom broke up before Taishou met Izayoi. In that case, it would make sense that he only had two offspring, but what happened that made the parents break up? Lots of unanswered questions. lol

I recently have been rewatching InuYacha and came across this video by accident. I have read some theories about what happened between Sesshomaru's parents. 1. Their marriage is possibly arranged, and the two families tried to increase their power by their marriage. 2. Sesshomaru's mother is such a prefect character, just as prefect as his dad. When 2 people are alike 100%, the relationship usually doesn't last very long. 3. Izayoi is the opposite of Sesshomaru's mother, she is a weak human, she is obedient. Inu no Taishou protected her. 4. It is also possible that Inu no Taishou loved them both, it is very common for a man to have multiple wives in ancient East Asia (China, Japan, Korea). InuYacha inherited (represented) his father's love triangle, Kagome and Kikyo. Sesshomaru ended up with Rin, a human he despised the most at the beginning. I'm not a native English speaker, if anything looked funny please excuse me!

To me through out the anime Sesshomaru's face looked like it was starting to relax. I wonder where you got the idea his mother was nice from. literally every source I can find depicts her as cruel and callous- this video instead puts a different light on her. makes you think.

His mother is probably much a self-serving demon like all other demons who lack human feelings like compassion and empathy. But she cares for her son like all mothers would, demon or human. She probably only helped to revive Rin to make Sesshomaru happy, not because she really cares about humans.

_I just cant deal with the number 3, Sesshomaru in the manga looks completely different to the seasshomaru from the anime. Probably, if the Sesshomaru of the manga would have appeared in the anime he wouldn’t have a lot of fan girls (neither would be so popular)_

Thank you! *^* And is Tenseiga and Tessaiga (indeed is written Tetsusaiga in japanese, but that tsu is a small character, so it means that small tsu reapeats its following consonant (s) -> tessaiga) isn't any tsu in reading those names :D
