The Red Eyes deck can be quite competitive but it still doesn't tend to swarm the deck as aggressively with such high ATK and DEF as the Blue Eyes theme can. A friend of mine would get at least 2-3 big dragons on the field at a time pretty easily though sometimes he CAN get his hand cluttered with big dragons with nothing to do.

why would it matter? after all, the only reason people actually win a yugioh game against a player who doesn't suck is through the effects and advantages. nobody can win in a competitive setting, even in just a decent local tournament, with brainless beatdown deck. blue-eyes is only viable because of the support cards that grant the player card advantage and help create a stronger board.

Yarish Rajdev I believe you aren’t too far off. The west culture is so sensitive in certain topics that they tend to censor anything they deem offensive. I think they thought that having “Black” fully spelled out in the text on an evil looking dark dragon would be offensive to black people. The card game is notorious for having most of the West yugioh cards censored. (Just look at what they did with Mr. Popo or Jinx) Joking aside, they did censor many card names and art styles like dark magician originally being “black magician.”

Red eyes and Blue eyes are more so depicted as yin and yang. The counter part idea also follows twins which are depiced as one personsplit in two, but i can say personally its not true. The one form of red eyes that was not mentioned in this vid is black metor dragon a fuzon between metor dragon and red eyes and one of the only forms of red eyes capable of wiping out blue eys without an effect needing to boost its attack.

Actually because the "black" was shortened to "b." the german translaters thought it stands for "blue" and the first german versions of the card were named "Rotäugiger blauer Drache". This was fixed when the second artwork version came out.

This might be extending a long branch here, but I think the reason why red-eyes represents potential and blue eyes represents victory strongly relates to Dark Magician, red-eyes has exactly 100 less points in both ATK/DEF, making it close, but not yet reachable, as for blue eyes it has 500 more ATK (almost 500 more in DEF too) than Dark Magician, and blue eyes DEF points are the same as D.M.'s ATK meaning it won't die even in DEF position by him, giving blue eyes the complete advantage.

black dragons chick is not the baby counterpart of red-eyes, thats why every card effect states "except Red-eyes B. chick" it was apparently a translation error which made us think so (although honestly the art is basically a baby red-eyes anyways). Its a similar situation to what happened with harpies brother, although that card just had its name changed later instead.

The original Japanese prints of Dark Magician actually translate to "Black Magician", but was changed due to Konami's fear of being too racey. I guess "Red-Eyes Dark Dragon" didn't sound as good as simply abbreviating the word "black". It's just more American censorship.

My first ever deck was the original starter deck joey, got it back when I was in primary school when it first came out, absolutely loved my Red Eyes Black Dragon, I'm pretty sure it was originally printed as Red Eyes Black Dragon as well but then had to follow rules down to ethnicity, some people didn't like the fact that blue eyes white dragon had more attack and defence than red eyes and people saw it as the names reflecting different ethnic backgrounds, saying that blue eyes stood for white supremacy, the way round that was to just put Red Eyes B Dragon because then it could stand for anything, it's definitely not because the name wouldn't fit because there are cards that have stupidly long names out there that are a lot longer than Red Eyes Black Dragon.

Funny thing about the B. in its name, it has lead to some mistranslations. I can't speak for all of them, but in the videogame Duelists of the Roses, the German version of the game translated the B. as "Blue" instead of Black, making it the Red-Eyes Blue Dragon instead.
