Very inspiring video, Keith! My favorite aspect of it was seeing you mini-review some movies that we normally don't get to hear your reflections of, such as IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE and other non-action, non-horror, non-scifi/fantasty titles. A great change of pace and so interesting to hear about other genres you are checking out from time to time. I would add TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD as a 4K transfer that doesn't get the attention and affection it deserves. It was the first 4K I watched on my system where I actually, profoundly noticed a difference between it and Blu. It was so strikingly beautiful you could smell the morning dew on the grass!

To be honest Glenn I probably should be doing more reviews like It's a Wonderful Life. I'm still not quite sure why I didn't do a review of it when I first got it in my hands. If you do decide to pick up Groundhog Day on 4K maybe go for the Steelbook edition because if you do you will get Dolby vision with that 4K transfer. You don't get it with the standard release. But thank you so much for stopping by. I really hope it helps

I just love this video. You talk about video and audio. I’ve actually come across so called movie reviewers who don’t include sound in their reviews at all. You discuss Both at length. I don’t even think you should talk about 4k disc reviews if you don’t have a good sound system to review the audio. I've got The Martian, Grease and Groundhog Day and I agree, they're excellent 4K's. Ones to definitely have in the collection. Need a few more of these suggestions in my collection. There's nothing quite like watching a movie in 4K for the first time. Some have left me gawping at the screen

Great list Keith, I’ve held off on Grease for sometime, but will pick it up soon. Again don’t want to beat a dead horse but a Jaw dropping visual experience is Paprika I’ve never been into Anime and it’s such a weird film but a totally different experience from our “ Normal” viewing experience. The Atmos is something that you will not believe for a Anime film, I thought I was going to watch maybe ten minutes of it but could not turn it off. 2012 was a delight. The biggest problem I have with 2012 is it has far too much humour in it especially when you consider everything that's happening. But unfortunately that is Roland Emmerich for you. He always put in unnecessary humour into his disaster movies. But it's still a fun popcorn movie. More than a visual treat than anything else

Love the Stand By Me 4K. Looked incredible!. It's a Wonderful Life another amazing B&W. I haven't got War of the Worlds yet. Need to since I have the Tom Cruise remake which blows the socks off the BD. Amityville Horror another great release from VS. Yeah there is an extended version of the Martian but I don't know how much it extends the movie. Sometimes those directors cuts can be somewhat hit and miss. Like I said in the video I'm waiting to get it at the right price. I highly recommend War of the Worlds as well by the way. Just like yourself I thought that Tom Cruise 4K release was absolutely phenomenal. The original is equally as impressive

Im just about to watch my UK 4K of The War Of The Worlds, and i remember being blown away by it. The colours had so much depth to them, and the picture was so crystal clear it was like it was filmed this century. It's an amazing film anyway, and i had to make it an essential purchase. The fact it had When Worlds Collide on a separate blu ray was the cherry on the cake

Good video to watch this is. Nice to see people talking about 4k vids that no one else is talking about, especially movies that stand the test of time. I'm a physical movie collector myself who hasn't made the leap ro 4k. Mainly because im tired of buying the next big thing and thinking is it or was it worth the financial outlay? Being the geek that I am, I have listed all my DVD/Blu-ray movies and TV show's into a spreadsheet. Then I have highlighted the one's that I'll watch again and again and upgrade these to 4k at some point. So your comments on stand by me, the Martian and groundhog day are in my list "to upgrade list" means I'll be getting these at some point soon.

To be honest I'm not particularly surprised that you haven't made the jump to 4K as of yet. There are so many people out there just like yourself. You sometimes forget how fantastic the Blu-ray format is. But I have said it so many times in so many videos it is the older movies where you start seeing significant upgrades and there is a few fantastic ones featured in this video. I really hope your first 4k will be the Martian because that was mine. I know it's not an older movie but I knew there and then we were seeing something very special in terms of 4k. @@millerman9991 No worries you make good content. Yourself and a few others that make content on 4k movies, is pushing me towards getting a 4K player that bit sooner. I have 2x 4k discs already the Martian (one of my favourite movies) and the revenant which I've seen but not that bothered about, however they were bought for £1 each. I won't upgrade my whole collection just the ones I deem watchable multiple times I.e. interstellar, arrival Shawshank redemption, back to the future, uncle buck to name a cand most M. Night Shyamalan movies..... About 60-70 all in all but I don't think some of them have a Blu-ray version yet so can't see a 4k version coming.

You know Keith, Ellen recommended Groundhog Day to me some time ago and I still haven't gotten around to seeing it. Stand By Me looks gorgeous in 4K and it's an incredible movie. 2012 is another great looking film. I still need to watch the Nun movies. I love your steelbook of Grease, it's like the school locker. I agree, The Amityville Horror is another great looking movie in 4K. Talking of stunning looking 4K, you were right about Pearl's opening sequence with the barn doors opening, wow. Also the first shot of the lake with the alligator was also an amazing shot in 4K.

I totally agree about Groundhog Day and Stand By Me. Sony truely are the reference for catalogue releases. The steelbook versions of these do have DV in case you were unaware. Sony have be re-releasing their early 4Ks with DV, usually as steelbooks.

Yeah I have every intention in the world of picking up the Steelbook Editions for both releases. I'm not expecting a drastic difference in picture quality but it would be nice to get them on Steelbook form. Just waiting to get them at the right price. But I absolutely agree with everything you said Mike when it comes to Sony. They never disappoint

@@millerman9991 A few of the Sony's upgraded releases also now use a 100gb disc instead of 66gb so compression should be improved. I know Groundhog Day is one. That's fair regarding pricing. You and I, heck most of us now have to rely on online ordering and finding the best deal is a challenge in of itself.

Don't blame you on waiting for the right place. WowHD is worth checking out as the price is all-in, international shipping is free.

Hi Keith thanks for making me aware to these transfers! Talking james cameron transfers: I have the T2 4k and used it to see what my new lg oled g4 wich came out a few months ago can deliever....I was more then blown away by the picture and sound and i think what are those people complainilg about!?!? Stefan it's great to hear that you got so much out of the Terminator 2 4K transfer. I'm not going to lie I'm not a fan of it myself but having said that I haven't ran it through my brand new Sony OLED TV so chances are I could feel different about it. But I do remember there was far too much DNR applied to the picture. But if you enjoyed it that is the most important thing. Don't let anybody make you think otherwise including myself

Some fantastic recommendations there Keith. Grease was one of the first 4ks I bought and it looks brilliant. I have the extended edition of The Martian and that also looks great. I still need to get Groundhog Day (slip cover edition or steelbook). Now we come to War Of The Worlds. The thing that put me off getting this on 4k is that all versions, in all territories have very incorrect colours on the opening scene, they have made Mars blue. Criterion did correct this when they released it on blu ray though so I may get that instead. Take care both of you. Gaz.

See that's the thing with myself Gary there is no way I would ever allow a scene that's only a couple of seconds long put me off an entire release. I know there was a lot of complaints out there but it never bothered me. If you ever decide to pick up Groundhog Day make sure to try and get the Steelbook edition because if you do you will get Dolby vision with it. You don't get it with the standard release. The 50s version of War Of The Worlds is one of my favourite films of all time and when they get it so wrong it puts you off getting a copy. I originally bought the ozzy blu ray, that was the first release to have this "new" 4k scan. I watched it and sold it a few days later.

I heard a lot that the 2012 4K was not a good transfer, so I never bought it. I guess it's on my list to buy again.

It's not a true Night and Day difference over the Blu-ray but trust me there is a difference and it's a welcome one. It's definitely worth checking out Alan

Sony did a more recent steelbook release of Groundhog day that added Dolby Vision. Both versions look great but the Dolby Vision one looks even better.

Yes you are absolutely correct Joe and apparently the same can be said for stand by me if you buy the Steelbook edition. I'm hoping to pick up both sometime in the future. Great to hear that Groundhog Day looks better. That will give me all the incentive that I need

I have a Samsung soundboard with a subwoofer. Why does some movies shake our apartment with atmos and others with atmos sound flat. Especially when atmos is added to older films.

I presuming it's simply down to the movie Alan. Not every single Dolby Atmos soundtrack I've heard sounds amazing. The thing is Atmos can be very effective when it's done right particularly on older movies. I only just watched Star Wars the other night and that sounded phenomenal

After so long of not buying any thing minus new releases I bought state of grace with Sean penn Gary old man probably the most under seen gem of a gangster film anyway I ordered from eBay I was going to from Zavvi after hearing your horror stories I said no
