@@friedsam29 Hi James. Welcome to WFPB living! I've lost another 12 pounds since writing my initial comment 5 months ago and began losing weight almost a year ago. Be patient and kind with yourself as you move thru your own weight loss journey; it's not a quick fix but a complete lifestyle reboot. I pretty much eat a hybrid of Dr McDougall's and Dr. Esselstyn's protocols. I eat zero processed foods, so no flours, salt, oil, sugar, and alcohol. Most of my meals are built around potatoes or sweet potatoes with my plate being 50% starch (potato, beans, grains) and 50% non-starchy veg. I eat until I'm satiated and this was a feeling that I needed to rediscover. I have found creating a community of others who are also WFPB to be the most supportive. Derek's channel and the folks in the comments are one of the pieces of my community. All the best, James.

Thanks for the list, Derek! I do have to say one thing. People with metabolic disorders (blood sugar issues - insulin resistance or diabetes) like myself should probably not be eating potatoes, because they are high glycemic and they can cause a surge in insulin production. It's not just calories in/calories out. Hormones like insulin (aka the fat storage hormone) matter, too. I love potatoes, but I only have them as an occasional treat, because they do cause me to gain weight. Otherwise, I have to follow a low glycemic diet, in order to keep things from getting out-of-control and to avoid getting full-blown diabetes. My point is, please don't assume that all of your viewers have a healthy metabolism, because that's not true.

Another hack to make your bananas ripen faster is to put them next to some apples. Apples emit a gas that causes fruit to ripen faster, especially if you put the apple and bananas together in a sealed bag, or poke a hole in the apple. Hence the reasoning behind the saying “one bad apple ruins the whole bunch.” 🍎 This also works for ripening avocados. 🥑 Also, i love oatmeal and chickpeas. They both have that flavor that is paradoxically sweet and savory at the same time. They are a match made in heaven i swear. 😋

I missed Derek talking facts about foods and the nutrition contents of them. Great video!! 😊🌱 #teamPB

LOVED this video! People often say to me that being vegan is too expensive. This video debunks that idea! And, having diabetes and heart disease is what's expensive 😳💰💰💰

I agree, these foods are so nutritious and pretty cheap! Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for watching.

Do you ever eat savoury oats? I definitely associate oats as being either sweet or slightly plain with cinnamon. But some people eat them with savoury ingredients and flavours.

Beluga lentils. Especially sprouted Beluga lentils. The tastiest, best in texture, highest in phytonutrients. Easy to sprout. Not expensive. You can find them at some natural foods stores. I order 25 lb bags, organic, from a natural foods co-op. So glad I found these.

They could have been, but what would you take off my list and replace with dates? Its so hard!
