Rooney is more of a midfilder in the last few seasons. It was LVG who started playing him in CM so he was hardly going to score more goals but at times even last season when he played as a striker earlier on 2016 Rooney was on fire with goals until his injury in February which Rashford arrived and Rooney was forced to play in cm. But these days I see Jose playing him on the wings which doesn't makes sense since he lacks pace. If he starts he should always play in CAM.

Where the hell is Ronaldinho? you put Kaka in here yet didnt include Ronaldinho...kaka was blighted by injuries and probably the most devastating moment for me as his fans..he's my favourite player but sadly injuries killed his career..but unlike Ronaldinho, he used to party so much after he won it all..tho it's very pleasing to watch him play but how I wished he could stop partying and drinking so he could be in his prime for more than 8-10 years just like Messi and CR..damnnnnnnn

This may sound like I'm being a dickhead but when Chelsea were linked with Torres after the world cup, I kept saying they should be looking at Suarez instead. I watched Suarez in the world cup and I was so impressed and I kept wondering why Chelsea weren't in for him, I didn't think he was gonna be as good as he turned out to be, alls I kept thinking at the time was that he was a no good son of a bitch that no one would ever wanna play against. While Torres' form in the world cup showed the type of player he had become, his lightening pace was gone and he relied heavily on it, for me it was a no-brainer that the better signing at the time was Suarez.

Wayne Rooney's career hasn't really declined. He's been consistent pretty much every season. Pretty much every year he almost has the same amount of goals. He's dropped to a deeper role playing as a CAM or CM and he still has more assists than Ozil. Its not about goals its about what you do for the team and Wayne Rooney recently has been pretty consistent since he's been starting for Man United he's been scoring and assisting and I know he hasn't been playing as much. During this season he's been coming on as a sub or he's been injured and he doesn't have that much time to score all the time or do anything and he's been playing in a deeper role so that's why his goal ratio has gone down. He's not declining.. He's just playing a different game. I don't know why you English hooligans criticize Wayne Rooney he's been the best English player ever.

2009-2011 Rooney was the best in my book. He carried the United team alone those two years after Teves and Ronaldo leaving left a giant hole in United's attack, helping them finish 2nd and 1st. He started declining after his serious injury at the end of 2011 season where he scored 34 and lost the golden boot award to Drogba because he wasn't available for the last five premier league games.
@BullC67 жыл бұрын
Rooney is still very good intermittently, the managers, especially mourinho, just don't play him in position or give him enough game time. I mean, if a manager is willing to bench out a player who is the club record goal scorer when he is available and not even sub him on while his team is looking at an impending draw...you kind of get that he is mostly a basket case. Of course you will score 24 times in 100 when 40 of those are 10 minute appearances. Rooney has actually scored the seven goals this season all on his starts which are around 16 from the total 34 appearances. Also not forgetting that he has played only 3 of all these games in a forward position, scoring 2 in 3. I am not saying that Rooney has not declined, he certainly has, a lot. But he is still good enough to play for United for a year more but I think a move to Everton or any other Premier league club apart from the top 6 and he could still be a great team player.

Most players slowly decline from around 30yrs old. But some just "fall off a cliff" suddenly in pace and form. I'm a Man CITY fan, and I must admit that this season, due too few games, Yaya toure has done that. He looks slow and awkward etc etc. This is a man who was, at his best..... Unplayable! Literally unplayable too unable? Unable to dribble past defender's etc. Its been so sad too watch tbh.. Love you Yaya!

Everytime Mourinho plays Rooney as a striker he gets a goal

Rooney's decline coincides with the decline of ManUtd post Sir Alex. To be fair he had a good season under Moyes scoring 17 in 29 in the league and having the highest number of assists in the Champions League in 2013/14 even though United only made the quarter finals. LVG's boring philosophy and tactics did not really suit him either and he often played as a midfielder. He had a decent start though under LVG scoring 8 in 14 in the league until January 2015. As on 1 Jan 2015- 8 goals in 14 league games in 2014/15 and 166 goals in 321 games in PL overall with a goals to game ratio of 0.52. After 1 Jan 2015- 4 goals in 19 league games in 2014/15. 8 goals in 28 games in 2015/16. 4 goals in 21 games so far in 2016/17. PL overall 182 goals in 389 games with a goals to game ratio down to 0.47. That is just 16 goals in 68 PL games since 1 Jan 2015. One could argue that LVG did use him as a midfielder quite often and under Mourinho he has not been starting games and is usually playing as LW ( I dont know how he can at this point of his career influence a game from out wide) but he definitely has been on a decline for the last 2 seasons. I really think he was always destined to be a CM in the later years of his career and LVG in a way had initiated that process during his tenure and he was getting to grips with the position in the final few months of last season and had some good games there in the PL and especially in the FA Cup semi final and final. This was probably the only way he was going to prolong his career at United because there is no doubt about the fact the he has got a lot slower and he is not agile enough to be playing regularly as a CF anymore and that is simply down to the number of games he has played at this level. It is not wrong in saying that he is 31 but in football terms he is 35. What he does have is that he has an excellent passing range and has the vision and ability to play those passes. Along with that he has the experience and that mentality of a winner and he will still get you a good number of goals and assists for a CM. And to be fair to him even though he has got slower over the years, but he still is reasonably quick for a midfielder. One of the first things Mourinho said in his first press conference was that he was never going to play Rooney as a CM. There is nothing wrong in reinventing yourself to a new position to prolong your career at the top level. Giggs did that, Scholes did that, even Ronaldo is doing that and there have been many more players who have done the same and will do the same. One thing is for sure, if he leaves United this summer and if he has to get back into the England national team, he has to go and play as a CM. His days as a 9 and 10 are over. He has to be an 8.

But it wasn't swift was it come on now After that season he scored 16,35,16,19,14,14 and now very old and slow so football daily shut mouth because you couldn't score one in Conference.

Rooney needed to be told what to do, he had natural talent for the game, but needed to be directed and fathered so to speak. His decline began when he and Fergie fell out, the very person who directed and fathered him. Rooney stood up to Fergie when he was at his peak, and suffered immediately without Fergie's guidance, and under Moyes and Van Gal he literally went from a 91 to a 78 (IMO) in less than 3 seasons. At Carrick's testimonial he looked like he hadn't kicked a ball since 2013 and played like he was already retired. #Dontcrosstheboss

I think Ronaldo n9 is the number one because before his big injury's @ Inter he was much better. If you compare the 20 year old versions of Ronaldo n9 and Messi it's clearly that Ronaldo was even much better then him. After his injury's he was still the best player in the world but he wasn't the same player anymore.

Essien embarrassingly play in Indonesia.. you couldn't say better than that. even as Indonesian I rarely watch Indonesian football league (if we still have one), it's just so boring. on the bright side, with one ticket you can watch 2 sports at once, football and martial art (fight)
