I loved watching Sledge Hammer! as a kid. Thank goodness for DVD decades later. I even picked up the two-issue Marvel comics run and had it signed by the artist.

The sad fact about "Automan" and "Voyagers!" is while they told XLNT stories, the special effects of one and varied period creation of the other made production very expensive. The same thing happened to the wonderful series "Quantum Leap" about a decade later.

I have The greatest American hero, voyagers, misfits of science, Manimal, the powers of Matthew star and Auto man on dvd and I re-watch them all once a year or so.

Can you not read your script? Or the screen? It's "Greatest", not "Great."

The Greatest American Hero was the victim of bad timing.The main character had the last name of President Reagan's would be assassin's last name, Hinckley.
@billybarnett2846Ай бұрын
@@royallison5307No it wasn't. That show was all over the place. They changed the character's names, family members, etc.

"Tenspeed and Brown Shoe," starring Jeff Goldblum and Ben Vereen, should be on this list. That show was the genesis of my ongoing Goldblum crush.

I never saw The Highwayman, Riptide or The Powers of Matthew Star, but the rest are some of my all time favourites, along witht he likes of Simon & Simon and The Whiz Kids. But, wasn't it "The Greatest American Hero", not "The Great American Hero"? That is what it was called on TV here in New Zealand.

I know a lot of people loved Greatest American Hero, but I alway thought it was a little too silly. Remember when they changed his name from Hinckley to Mr. H?
@SteveSpikes2 ай бұрын
Ralph's last name was changed to Hanley after the assassination attempt on then President Ronald Reagan. The "kids" only called him "Mr. H."

The same thing happened with Misfits of Science too. The guy playing the main doctor in the series died not long after the season aired.

Sadly, the only one of these screened on British Telly, in my Region was Greatest American Hero. I have fond memories of the couple of episodes we saw. It is possible that a few of other shows from this list were broadcast at some point. The majority never made it across the pond. While home-grown rubbish, such as Easterners, garnered audiences of 30 Million (Population 60 Million), North American imports barely registered. Notoriously, Baywatch, was saved because of acceptable British viewing figures. On balance, I would much rather have had the opportunity to have seen Sledge Hammer than most of the stuff churned out by the BBC and ITV. Once again, it seems much of what was popular in the States, never had a chance in the UK. On the other side of the coin, when smash hits like "Starsky and Hutch" came along, it destroyed beloved shows like "Dixon of Dock Green". Dixon was a British Bobby who solved crimes while walking his beat, or by trundling along on his bicycle. At the time of Starsky & Hutch he had been upgraded to his little Panda Car. The actor who played Dixon was 80 years old when the show ended.
