Nobody will see this comment, but the film They Came Back, a zombie flick where the zombies don't eat flesh, but are basically terrorists, is wild, and should have been mentioned.

Is that the one where they have zombie masks but otherwise walks around naked?

And the excellent TV series based on the same movie "The returned"

One of the things about Revenge that makes it so great is that it is, at its core, a feminist take on the rape revenge movie. Unlike the usual rape revenge where the female lead is an "innocent", the female lead in Revenge knowingly has an affair with a married man, but the film passes no judgment on her, because, of course, no woman, no matter who they are, deserves to be raped. The film also makes a marked difference between what actions she consents to and what she does not consent to. Also, the rape itself is not filmed exploitatively in any way. Plus that final scene *chefs kiss*

you forgot.. In Isle the homeowners have half their house under renovation so it is totally unsecured except for the flimsy locked doors. This was my first foray into foreign horror and it is GREAT, a slow burn and the ending is is sad but it is GREAT. It's the movie that started my love of foreign horror

the opening of ills is fantastic too. the first five or so minutes is riviting. ils was supposedly based on a true story, although no one could ever find the story it came from, but that legendary true story is what all of the group home invasion movies-- like the strangers, eden lake, etc, come from. ils was the first.

good list. i've seen all of the movies save for the ones from the 70's. thank you for not talking about the same 5 or 6 films, even tho people bitch when you don't mention them. keep up the good work.

I saw "ils" just because I wanted to watch another movie (don't remember the name) but it was -16 and my 16th birthday was in 1 week. But the theater doesn't allow me to watch the movie so I watch "Ils" and I loved it

it's also been on their lists countless times. haute tension, inside, martyrs are all well known. they're french extreme training wheels. they're the movies everyone sees when they start exploring the genre. they don't need to be listed every time they make a list. trust me, they've talked about it dozens of times.

There's a goofy french/Belgian film called Le manoir (the mansion) it's sick, twisted, hilarious and full of weird homages one of my favourite films
@biljam9722 күн бұрын
I guess these are lesser known French movies, as I don't see Martyrs or Haute Tension, or Inside. I also think Climax is pretty great.

So, because I loved the other films on this list, I sought out “Livid”. 90mins I’ll never get back. Just a slapdash mashup of various horror movie tropes & 0 attempt to tell a cohesive story.

they've talked about both of those directors countless times. do they really need to mention their films EVERY TIME? personally i'm happy they didn't mention them. yes, raw, yes, titane, yes irreversable, etc, etc. their films are well known, and often talked about. time for new films, new directors.

Certainly not German movies and definitely no German horror movies, German cinema is 95% terrible cringe. There were maybe 4 or 5 good German movies in the last 50 years.

New French Extremity is such a great genre. Another French film people should see is the 1992 movie Delicatessen. If you like Terry Gilliam movies you're bound to love Delicatessen.

I bet they would not praise the movie if the genders in Évolution were reversed, instead they would condemn the film because it would be "so disgusting to watch adult men touching innocent young girls". And the next entry is already proof enough.
