R.I.P. You felt you had to leave this world behind you beautiful man and it is our loss. But the legacy of your music is immense so pure so honest. Your music will go on until the music stops. So go we will let you on your way and say farewell beautiful man you are singing on a higher plane now. You were a beautiful soul and you will be remembered you with pure affection. xxxx

I first heard frightened rabbit before Scott’s passing but i feel really guilty to say that for me, I only became aware of the hurt behind his lyrics after knowing what he was going through. Discovering the art that they have produced after the tragedy, you becomes so painfully aware that he has such an incredible talent to connect so purely with people going through such horrendous circumstances, that it feels like he is talking directly to you, not just in every song but every line. Going through some personal difficulties myself it feels almost sinister to say that it’s life changing to hear your pain also expressed by someone else, but incredibly cathartic at the same time. That you’re not alone. I know that what happens can never be undone, but at the very least we are still able to enjoy the snapshots of the beautiful soul that is no longer here. It is so painfully obvious to see how much you mean to the people who knew you, and the one’s like me who didn’t, but knowing that someone as groundbreaking and beautiful as Scott has these issues, shows just how universal this crisis can be. It gives you the strength to feel that you could be loved and needed in a way you could never wish for, even by people you never knew

His brother has been adamant that his music shouldn't only be interpreted through this lens. The persona of the song is not necessarily the person who wrote it, and there is a lot more to Scott than that he had depression and killed himself. As fans we should remember him as someone who wrote some great tunes, worked hard, toured like crazy, and left a legacy of music that we can keep alive. He had a fatal disease that killed him, but he's so much more than that.

@@gripdamage I completely agree mate and I’m so sorry for writing something that has come across as painful or upsetting, especially to his family. I tried to say that I have no connection to him in real life as I never saw them play, never met him and had only really known and enjoyed a song or 2 that I’d found by chance on KZbin that I really loved before he passed away. I was so shocked to hear the news that I finally made time to explore their music and discovered songs and albums that I can no longer live without. I have found so many songs of theirs that help to amplify every emotion I could have from joy to sadness and it really feels like the songs help me to feel understood. Whether that’s the created persona of the song, or of a band member I can never know, but I am so sorry that it came across as me saying I could feel his pain. What I really feel like is that maybe the song feels my pain or emotions, whether that’s a really positive feeling or a painful one. From every video and interview I’ve seen of Scott and the band, he seems like just such an amazing person in so many ways and I wish I could have known him and discovered more of their music before I did. I absolutely know he is so much more than what happened and I should have been more responsible in explaining that. I’m sorry mate

Great band, sad that we lost a great song writer. Some of us find each day a battle and nothing we or others do seem to help us win that battle. You get through today to face the next to just do it again. At some point the futility of it finally breaks you down.

I think Scott states it pretty clearly in the lyrics "you won't find love in a hole, it takes more than fucking someone to keep yourself warm." casual sex won't save you from loneliness.
@cseymour001

I read an interview where Scott said he wrote the song while living with a couple roommates. One was bringing girls home every night and one never went out at all but neither one seemed particularly happy. Scott said he wrote the lyrics “you won’t find love in a hole” as a sort of double meaning that neither the “hole” from meaningless sex nor social isolation will keep you warm.

Split from a dear love 6 months ago. Once lockdown relaxes I am in danger of trying to find warmth in a hole. Could be jizz flying everywhere. If I was a German WW2 battleship I'd be called the Jizzmark.
