I would have picked Empire - Total War instead of Rome 2. Stats show it gets played more since Rome 2, and it is just an all round better game, even if it is more buggy and easier to cheese. Nothing has come close to recreating the period, and both the land and sea battles reward real tactics rather than micromanagement, more than any other Total War title.

@@DavidWhite-d4d Yeah - I'd have given him Rome1 over Empire. The problem with Rome, is that it is a little one dimensional, and replay value is limited, as playing as Rome is the only option.

I was just playing Heroes of Might and Magic III, still an amazing game! Lots of good memories with Diablo 2 and StarCraft as well. I'm biased but I'd add Microsoft's Allegiance to the list. It's a space conquest RTS combined with first person shooter, all units and commander are people so it's a lot of fun when the teams coordinate. The community has kept it alive after almost 25 years!

CIV 5 IS THE GOAT! That game shaped my entire palette for games and is probably my all time favorite game. That music during your segment on it gave me flashbacks and makes we want to go and play some more. Side note, was that Bionicle music during the Starcraft 2 segment? I never played much starcraft so idk if its music is similar but that sounded just like one of the songs from the Bionicle 2 movie.

Where can you get HOMM3? It's not on Steam. Fun fact for HOMM3 if you combine 3 relics you can make some staff that makes power Liches. I had hundreds of power liches in my army nothing can survive them.

Heroes 3 HD edition is on Steam but I would recommend Heroes 3 Complete from GOG and get the HD mod instead as you get far more content.

Command & Conquer 3: tiberium wars. Peak of the C&C franchise. Well thought out units and abilities that reward combined arms, check. UI so tight you can play using a gamepad, check. Ridiculously overproduced story starring all your favorite B list celebrities, you know it.

It was a medieval feud in Medieval England that pitted House Lancaster (Lannister) against House York (Stark). The War of the Lions mirrors a lot of the events in the War of the Roses.

I think we all have our own games that are 10+ and we love them for more reasons than just nostalgia, for example I absolutely love Star Wars KOTOR, Mafia, HOMM5 (yes I prefer this one, it always felt much more magical than third to me) Unreal Tournament and so on... But one game I will NEVER agree on being "timeless" or even remotely "good" is skyrim. It was only somewhat fun thanks to mods, and I'd lie if I said that CBBE wasn't one of them.

I'm going to push back. Skyrim doesn't really hold up for me. It's boring for an Elder Scrolls title and the gameplay is the only thing that holds up. It's largely a boring series of fetch quests to fill in around the main highlights. It's good, but I think it's only as "beloved" as it is because it's been 15 years since Bethesda gave us an Elder Scrolls game. FWIW, both Morrowind and Oblivion hold up better (glitches, exploits, and all) because they give you limited choices in your builds, but have a lot more depth in each. Modding definitely helps it stick around and I find that the best way to go back to Skyrim now is more as a hardcore survival game managing hunger, fatigue, and warmth. But the game itself lacks a lot. .

I am sure everyone here has seen the "video games suck now" videos. Its true, modern games just dont do it. Why? Couldnt be debated forever, but my point is, i avoided playing old games over and over again because i did play them and now i have to play new games in my backlog, but they just dont grab me, they are boring, at some point i started asking "did i enjoy videogames in the first place? Have i grown to old for games? So i put that theory to the test by playing old games. Morrowind, best game bethesda ever made, they will never make a game like this, sadly you need alot of mods to make it live to is true potential, same with fallout new vegas, i also played fallout 2 with the restoration patch that adds alot of content and i am replaying fallout 1 currently. I replayed all the blackbox need for speed games. Then i got to shift...ewwww. I also replayed far cry from start to finish and i am playing duke nukem 3d alien armagedon. I am also replaying half life with the recently released brutal half life mod. Then there is quake, obviously age of empires 2 but what about star wars galactic battlegrounds thats good as well. Ace combat 2 had great missions and music, so i keep getting back into that game. i played vice city a while ago and san andreas, then you got saints row 2 that to me its the true sequel to vice city, i will be playing bully at some point and i also played the pc port of ocarina of time and the soul reaver remaster. Old games were just made different.
