With Alien ant farm, they actually got Jackson’s blessing to do the song, and HE loved it. They also never set out intending to do it to start with. The singer said that the bassist used to play the baseline of the song at concerts and the crowd instantly knew what it was and loved it. They got ahold of Jackson’s people and asked if they could do the cover, never thinking he’d never say yes, but he did, saying it would only be released if he himself liked it.

I’m more of a metal head, I don’t really like nickel back all that much but I won’t come out and just rip on them. If anything how you remind me is a decent tune and even a guilty pleasure of mine. Over the years I've weirdly gone from being indifferent to Black Veil Brides to being a casual defender of them. Even if their sound and schtick get a bit repetitive at times, I can't really HATE it - it's escapism and theatre for sad, lonely kids and as someone who grew up on MCR I appreciate that even as an adult. Plus that whole 'Wretched and Divine' album is pretty good, most of their other albums have really solid and even fun guitar work, and Andy Black's lower, gritty voice is pretty different from your standard high-pitched 'emo' singer's that even their cheesiest lyrics feel powerful. mostly.
@kaelanmcalpine20112 жыл бұрын
I saw them live with like 5 other bands in Tampa over a month ago and I think I remember listening to them and thinking "y'know they kinda look and sound like if Avenged Sevenfold went glam." They also finished with In The End which was also the only song I was mildly familiar with from them meanwhile I know most or all of the songs from everyone else aside from Godsmack which I only knew the ones from my childhood and unlike Three Days Grace, there weren't too many.
@Replicaate2 жыл бұрын
@@kaelanmcalpine2011 I saw them alongside INK and MIW at the Trinity of Terror tour a couple months ago. There's more variation and 'life' in their songs than on record, plus Andy Black's a cracking good frontman, even if I was wondering if he'd stop the show because he smudged his makeup.

Nickelback's debut was legitimately solid stuff. I don't like where they went from there, but that first album was goos. Saliva was really good at what they did, which was dumb mindless butt rock. They may do something kinda dumb, but they were great at it. Alien Ant Farm is a brilliant band and deserve waaaaaay more recognition. Every song on Ant Farm is great. Staind...Mudshovel. Still a great track. They were kinda like Saliva, the best in their niche. Hoobastank. Their debut album was genuinely good and is still enjoyable. They were never great, but you can't say they weren't good. Train...They had one or two other songs that were decent back in the day. Creed...My Own Prison and Human Clay were great albums and everyone loved them for a good reason. Maybe they went crazy later, but I will tell you (truthfully, I'm almost sure) that most people who hate them only started hating them during those first two albums was because it was the trendy thing to do and that's it.

What if is fantastic, but I always loved the song after it, beautiful. Super heavy riff in a minor key. Tremonti was always an outstanding guitarist, and an absolute riff machine.

I'm all for bashing Nickelback for being terrible but honestly Silver Side Up was a solid album for it's time. Recognize, Tia Lupe, Echo Park, Rubber Mallet, Bad Morning, Nova Hands, Whisper, Courage, Wish, She's Only Evil, Dirty Bomb, Simpatico, are all fantastic tracks, along with most of their discography. They honestly have one of the most solid catalogues from all of the Nu-Metal/Alt. Metal bands of that era.

Wrote a similar comment and i completely agree. It's really a shame. Their musicianship is on another level than most of their contemporaries too. I kind of consider AAF like if Incubus kept more of that quirkiness and weirdness after Science when they wrote Make Yourself. Although i have to admit their last album was painfully inconsistent. The songs that sounded like them were amazing and the songs with clear cowrites were terrible (you listed all fantastic songs so you probably know exactly what I'm talking about). Like quality literally split down the middle for me lol
@ak4ben4 жыл бұрын
@@BliboranBass BliboranBass That is a pretty apt comparison my friend! The reason behind the inconsistency on the last album is due to it being in the works since 2011. The songs that are more akin to their style were written earlier (you can find some performances and early demos of Yellow Pages and Simpatico for example) and the songs that have strayed are later develops, which, yes left the album quite inconsistent and a bit generic in some instances. A lot of the songs have went through several different phases to appeal to current trends (although they came to late, like the main single "Let 'em Know" (I can't quite remember but I'm pretty sure that is the title haha) which had a dubstep influenced breakdown). While I did not mind the weaker songs personally as sometimes Pop songs can be a good palate cleanser (especially after listening to heavier and/or more experimental musical styles for a while) it is a shame that it turned out the way it did, which also resulted in The bassist Tye Zamora leaving too (whom was imo the best member). But alas it is what it is and we can only hope that the next record (which was in the process of being written before the pandemic) is much better regardless of the direction they take their music.

If I had a pick, it would be Blurry by Puddle of Mudd. I really like how the guitar sounds in that particular song and the lyrics are good (for Puddle of Mudd standards so I guess that equals out to 'decent'). Overall, I have a soft spot for this one. Never really liked the bands music outside of that.

The natural harmonics in the verse, and the melodic way they used them, are great. Lyrically it is awful, and actually kind of disgusting, because it took the Seattle grunge attitude of genuine subjects of loss and disenfranchisement, and turned it around into the worst shallow, pandering bullshit. Whining about insincerity while being completely insincere.

I beg to differ, I disagree with their take on Depression. I think a much more accurate depiction of depression would be Happy Song or Hospital for Souls by Bring me the Horizon.
@cassandraspoelhof37524 жыл бұрын
@@ryanbollinger1759 Well I like that song. They also had a great message at the end of the music video. “One friend can save a life” The music video is a very accurate depiction of depression and suicidal actions. It actually begins with a fake out of a teenage boy going into his kitchen with a gun and then shootings himself in the head... in front of his parents. Don’t worry it has a happy ending though. Never Too Late by Three Days Grace is also a good song.

@@ryanbollinger1759 there is no “accurate depiction of depression” seeing as it is not the same for anyone. That is your experience and lyrics YOU can relate to. Don’t down anyone else’s experiences as if yours are the defining factors.

When you mentioned that Drops of Jupiter came out during the nu-metal era, I was confused. I looked it up and I found out that the song was released 20 years ago. I thought the song was from 2007 or something but seeing that it came out over a year before I was born is insane. Also, I thought I was the only one who thought that was their only bearable song. the same thing can be said about most modern rap slow it down and listen you'll probably die inside it's and issue with modern music is in the past there were many good songs with bad ones thrown in however now it's all rubbish to a good beat with a few gems thrown in it's the same for all genres. skillet there new album really in comparison to there last three. taylor swift everything after red has been bad maybe 5 good decent song out of 40. owl city is an excellent example midsummer great album no new album for years comes back with his worst album ever in mobile orchestra then a few years later in my opinion brings out arguable his best album ever. if a band can't bring our constant good album maybe they shouldn't try to.
