What other games were ruined by terrible announcing?
If you're new, Subscribe! → bit.ly/Subscribe-to-TPS
Description:
Being a sports announcer is one of the coolest jobs out there. You’re paid six to 7 figures to call the biggest sporting events on national television. And heck, you can make an epic sports moment even more great if you can call it properly.
Unfortunately, some of the best sports moments of all-time were ruined by terrible commentary. I’m DeQwan Young, and today we present 10 times where the announcer ruined a great game.
And a big shoutout to JasonPorchVideos for suggesting this idea to us!

I agree with this sentiment, entirely. I'll admit that announcers have their moments. But to say that they ruined a game is a REAL stretch. And I gotta feeling that, sooner or later, someone's gonna include this video in" "The Top 10 sports opinions videos that didn't live up to their title" I really like Deqwan. I think he's a stand-up guy, and his videos are pretty damn good. Maybe just change the title of the video.

Radio guys give the best calls. As a 49ers fan, check out the Steve Young run, The Catch II to Owens, and The Catch III to Davis, all on youtube. Check out the Tim Tebow over time win against the Steelers. Listen to anything by Paul Allan of the Vikings. Many more example are out there. Radio guys have to make it interesting when there is no video to go with it, and are normally homers and cheer for the same team as you.

@xacex6944 6 жыл бұрын
Jacob van Veldhuizen yes but this video was full of boring, dull commentary for plays that would have anyone screaming, so this guy called them out for being dull and boring. He didn't seem like he wanted them to go crazy, he just wanted them to act like they give a damn
@jacobvanveldhuizen2398
@jacobvanveldhuizen2398 6 жыл бұрын
DirkKobefan 24841 There were definitely some that were Pat Summerall-esque, thats why I said "mostly". Most were average, I guess those that think national play-by-play guys in general are boring would agree with the list. I like the classic setup though; of having the play-by-play done by a not-very-excited guy with a good voice and having the color commentator be the more excited one (who also brings more statistics and humor to the booth).

I think this guy wants everyone to sound like Gus Johnson. There’s nothing wrong with any of these announcers. None of these games were ruined! Do better. Pat Summerall always sounded like this. Madden was the hype man.
@clarastallworth845
@clarastallworth845 5 жыл бұрын
uwem2004 Summerall and Madden were the gold standard in sports announcing. While both played football, Summerall had a resume that few could match; besides football, he also did golf, especially the Masters and the US and British Opens. But it was in football that he paired with Madden and they worked together for years until Summerall was forced to retire due to ill health. Madden continued to work in the broadcast booth, most recently with Sunday Night Football on NBC the first couple of years until he decided to retire.

They don't have to be screaming, but many of these are some of the greatest plays in NFL history. Tom Brady upsetting the Greatest Show on Turf. The Giants upsetting the 18-0 Patriots. The announcers just need to show some emotion, any emotion. Excitement, shock, disbelief, anything is better then using the same monotone voice one uses to talk about their credit history.
@frankmanto670
@frankmanto670 6 жыл бұрын
The title of the video is that the announcer "Ruined" the great game. That is totally not the case. Ruined ?? That's a little strong, don't you think ?
@RlyHotSauce
@RlyHotSauce 6 жыл бұрын
Frank Manto I do agree that ruined is a bit strong. However, it does temper your excitement over these big plays when the monotone announcer drones over them. Additionally, the thing that bothers me the most is how much more incredible these moments could have been if a they had a good announcer calling them.
@frankmanto670
@frankmanto670 6 жыл бұрын
I just think it's a little overblown. I'm a Giants fan and the Tyree catch was awesome and I would've never given a second thought about it (the announcing) had it not been for this video. The whole Musberger thing was blown way out of proportion. I've wondered sometimes if Musberger had been younger....say in his 30's or 40's, would it have been such a big deal ? Because he's old enough to be her Father, it got more attention than it probably should have. To be fair, the one clip that I thought Buck could have done better on was the Eagles game...a kick return, I beleive. "Mitchell......Mitchell......Mitchell". I'll give you that, that was bad

The worst was Joe Buck calling game 6 of the 1911 World Series when the Cardinals came back and tied the game in the 9th and the 10th inning. NCAA Championship - Michigan basketball vs Louisville. The commentator was shitting on Spike Alberecht saying he couldn’t shoot, wasn’t fast enough, blah blah blah. Then Spike comes back with 4 three pointers in the first half. Fantastic game from Spike

I'm mean...were any of these bad? It's not like any of these guys were calling the game flat-out incorrectly. These were fine. If you REALLY wanna talk bad calls, look at Rick Allen on almost EVERY NASCAR race that NBC covers over the season. THOSE are bad calls.

The “Mitchell”, Packers-9ers, and the confusing moment hockey calls were the only ones that really deserved to be on here. Even then, the hockey guys get a pass because no one knew what was going on, not even the refs for a hot second

They aren’t suppose to be biased... this is standard. This isn’t the local team radio. This guy annoys me. Yeah, they could be better.. but not HORRIBLE. And I love Jim Nantz... he was fine. This guy doesn’t know sports clearly. All his shit is clickbait.

This was a very strange video. The stars are on the field, not in the announcing booth. Unless you’re a homer, you don’t want a stilted, over-the-top announcer.I’m shocked that anyone agrees with the premise of this video. Brent Musburger, can wreck a game. Jim Nance and Joe Buck Are superb announcers. The game is not about them… And they know it.

2011 Lions vs Cowboys. Joe Buck showed no excitement or energy whatsoever when Calvin Johnson caught a touchdown in triple coverage but he was practically jumping out of his chair when Dez made an average catch on a touchdown earlier.

I don’t see how they’re trying to say Jim Nantz didn’t have enough energy during big plays. He had plenty of energy, but he controlled it enough so that he wasn’t screaming into the microphone. Seems like they reached for A LOT of these...

I wish some play-by-play commentators weren't so bias. All you have to do is call the game and get excited for every big play and any plays that help decide the game while also being aware of any mistakes that are made in the game either by players, coaches, or officials. My dream job is to be a play-by-play commentator so I hope I don't make the same mistakes that some of these commentators make. I will say though that I consider Jim Nantz, Al Michael, Pat Summerall, and Brent Musburger to be legends in the sports broadcasting industry. Gus Johnson is great as well since he some of his calls can be exciting. Case in point: the Jacksonville Jaguars Hail Mary in 2012 against the Texans.
