sometimes we forget how many choices we have in fun games, that can run good without the need of a top end pc.. also you can add emulation, and that opens you to hundreds of hours of fun with more games on low end or older hardware ... great vid !

Instead of the R9-270 you can go with gtx 750ti instead. Same performance and vram but surprisingly it's still supported in official drivers

HL2 and L4D/2 are required reading in gaming. While HL2 is the superior game I prefer L4D because it's just so much damn fun. Also there's a subtle mod pack on Steam workshop to UG the graphics lighting and textures that upgrades them while retaining the aesthetic original look. There's no surprise this machine runs these games like a champ, your build is somewhere around a PS4 Pro in terms of output but you're playing games designed to run on HW from the 360 or earlier.

Not a single RPG? I would add some. SWKotOR 1 and 2, Jade Empire, first and second Mass Effect (third is tad harder to run) Fallout 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2. Skyrim should run pretty well on weaker hardware too.

I feel bad every time you call the system Janky LOL. I found out recently that some 2nd gen boards will take a 3rd gen cpu which could help quite a bit when you get one of these “free” motherboards.

Almost same with my htpc/second pc, Xeon E3-1270 /16GBram/7870XT, but my gpu died so i bought a GTX 960 2GB (dual fan MSI) for 25 eur. It plays newer indie games/ esport titles just fine. If someone is using i7 2600/i7 3770 with a (Z)77 mobo , you can overclock them even being non-K with turbo boost +400mhz and probably undervolt em the same time lol (4ghz all core i72600 as an example). It could help playing newer titles with a more powerful gpu. Xeons V1 cant use this feauture, havent tested V2( ivy bridge).

57000 games on steam. You might need the very latest hardware for new games like Indiana Jones ... that's 0.0017% of games you can play because you're running a potato. If you're running a gaming rig that is less than 5 years old, you're all set.
