the mysteries in the department of mysteries are different concepts that are investigated by magic. there is time (room with the time turners and the egg to bird and back spere) space (room with planets) thoughts (tank with brains) the future (the hall of prophesies) love (sealed room no one can enter) and death (the veil) (Maybe more but the gang doesn´t investigate more rooms) the veil is literally a gateway to death. the kids seeing thestrals can hear people behind it because they lost someone. it is not really the dead person talking to them behind the vail it is more like a whisper from there souls. just like the images harry summons with the resurrection stone. they are not really there but their imprints reach out to harry. we learn that the most people “pass on” so they wouldn´t linger in the ministry. he hears his parents and maybe Cedric behind the vail and Luna can hear her mom because this people cared about them in live. it is like the feeling that someone you loved is watching over you and just death is separating you from seeing each other again. The kids never seeing someone die don’t hear voices because they don’t wish to be with someone dead again. no one they care deeply about did die yet. hope this explanation helps a bit 😊 (sorry if there is bad spelling or gramma. english is not my 1st language)

This is a very good set of theories. I was always under the impression that magic was hereditary, probably controlled by a number of genes. Many Muggles carry magical genes but not enough to make them magical. when a couple gets together and has q child each may contribute magical genes to their child. If their are enough the child is a Muggle-born. Often if a couple has a Muggle-born child they will have another Muggle-born child. I was also under the impression that Hogwarts is free as far as tuition, lodging and food go but the student must buy their own books, clothing and equipment.

@NikonF5user3 жыл бұрын
@@grantwalter2243 it would need to be considerably higher than that. Just consider the Hogwarts population alone. If you assume 5 male and 5 female students per year, that means roughly 70 students per house. Four houses of course would suggest Hogwarts alone has roughly 280 magicians in school at any given time. Not every kid born with magic will necessarily attend Hogwarts, but it's still a good base to go by. So assuming there are approximately 40 magicians born in England every year, and the average lifespan of a magician is at least 80 years, that would be a minimum of 3200 magicians at any time in Britain. But this would be a considerable undercount of course because again, not every wizard kid goes to Hogwarts...

In short, I don't think (operative word) there are squib genes, but there could be many squibs who failed these exams. How else do you explain the presence of Filch and Hagrid at Hogwarts? Even though they're failed wizards, they're still valued enough as people that Dumbledore hired them to work at Hogwarts: Filch is the hated hall monitor while Hagrid is the school messenger sent to tell kids they're wizards, but also serves as zookeeper of the Forbidden Forest. As for Mrs. Figg? She's probably a squib for the same reason as Filch: she probably failed her OWLs or NEWTs, and has to take care of Harry when the Dursleys take their trips.

Now blood purity doesn’t make sense. Hagrid stated wizards would have gone extinct if they stuck to being pure bloods only. Now it turns out there’s a gene that can pick people at round so how can wizards ever go extinct? How do you even consider someone a mudblood for getting the gene at random? Wouldn’t that technically make everyone a mudblood at the start of their family’s wizarding bloodline?
@liampowell50143 жыл бұрын
@@Jax1147 Because it isn’t random exactly, the gene comes from a magical ancestor and mudbloods have been non-magical in the family for generations but some time in the past they have a witch/wizard in the family, however most of the time, they’re descended from squibs who have a magical gene that lies dormant but still gets passed down and eventually activates in a family member at some point. My 2 cents to this: When Voldy saw Harry as a child after the noble sacrifice of his parents, his backfired curse ripped out his soul (in pieces) and specifically the piece of him as an infant- the exact innosence nd the infant sould of Voldy got horcruxed into Harry while killing his body, but letting his soul-infant soul roam and eventually Albania, quirrel, and back in goblet of fire. By imbuing Harry's blood, he connected with his infant soul in Harry and hence was impossible for Voldy to block the Legilemency when he feels core emotions(that even an infant can feel-unlike complex abstract thoughts) In the end, he killed his infant soul and the shock of it took Harry into limbo(he's quite a strong person of mind and soul) But Harry found his way back and like he speaks out like an anime character at Voldy , the elder wand was Harry's. If Voldy had only listened to Harry and made a run for it, the wizarding world would've been massively screwed(for a few more books perhaps 😂)- Yet even if it ran for a few more books, it'll be certain that the infant piece of soul dying would slowly and surely destroy Voldy in time. If magic is somehow related with the activation of several different genes that are common to all humans, and are possible present in the other magical beings and creatures it would explain why muggle-borns pop up ramdomly and why sometimes squibs are born. All the while accounting for evolution... maybe several genes in our junk dna are responsible for magic... if it was just a gene, offsprings of magical/muggle couples would result in much more squibs, and it is cannon that squibs are much more rare than muggle-borns.

Probably something in relation to Lily or Petunias mother. A lot of fans speculate that Lily and Petunias mother was killed by Deatheaters so maby that's what Dudley saw. That would explain why he may felt bad for harry and got a better understanding of the tragidy of the whole story.

How is there entire tuition paid for when the twins pointed out to there mom in the chamber of secrets that they don’t have the money even for the books ? Lol 😂
@shepwillner75073 жыл бұрын
Good question, especially when students need $ to pay for robes, books, wands, animals, parchment paper, quill pens and ink, and other items? Maybe the Ministry pays the tuition and round-trip train transportation, but the students' families pay for everything else. The money for that "everything else' has to come somewhere: from the students' families' salaries. For example, the twins--George and Fred--Dad, Arthur, along with Bill and Percy, work for the Ministry. Follow me from your question to the follow-up queries: What salaries and benefits do Arthur and his sons Bill, Percy, and wizarding families working for the Ministry earn there to ensure a comfortable lifestyle? Are Bill and Percy's salaries contributing a few hundred Galleons towards their siblings' educational expenses? The answer to that question is No, it's not enough to pay for their supplemental expenses at Hogwarts, if Molly isn't able to afford new dress robes for Ron and maybe second-hand books for all of the kids. The point I'm making is that Hogwarts is like Muggle schools in the States: if kids attend public schools, those schools' expenditures are paid from property tax revenues paid to the jurisdiction where the school district have their schools. If the kids attend private school, their parents pay for the tuition, bus transportation, room and board (if the school has dormitories); the school provides the instruction, desks and equipment. However, like Hogwarts, the kids have to pay for their own school supplies on top of what their parents pay. Not exactly a great system, regardless of what kind of school today's kids attend, private or public. You think that's bad? Try this on for size: if you attend college, grad school or professional schools like law, med, dent, vet, or b-school: expect to pay for not only your school supplies but also for your course textbooks. Yep, those textbooks are not included in the tuition, and you have to buy them at the college's proprietary bookstore, which can be either online or a physical location somewhere on campus. Because many textbooks are super- expensive--think medical, law, business, science, engineering, and math--many students try to economize by trying to find less expensive tomes sold by students who previously took the course and want off-load their books at a deep discount. Have I done so? Yeah, and the memory of that transaction isn't a pleasant one.

Regarding Dudley: I have a theory (I picked it up from a fanfiction, sorry, forget which one) that Harry being a horcrux could affect people similarly to how the locket affected Harry, Ron, and Hermione during the horcrux hunt when they had to take turns wearing it. So in this theory, there are a couple of principles that make it work: duration and closeness of proximity make a difference (explaining why Ron could be said to have been negatively affected by horcrux-Harry but not so much Hermione since Ron was physically closer and for more duration of time than Hermione). And that some people could be more or less resilient to the negative affects, again explaining why Ron seemed to have been affected but not as much Hermione since Ron was more susceptible from either just naturally being less resistant and/or his special circumstances (poverty, poor self esteem, brothers’/Harry’s shadow etc.). Note when I mention Ron as having been seemingly affected, examples would be his extreme irritability in 3rd year, particularly about Hermione’s cat, and about how easily he turned on Harry at the beginning of 4th year over Harry “entering” the tournament-that would track with how the locket had affected him so badly it influenced him to abandon Harry and Hermione in the tent. If this theory is true, it could have also applied to Dudley-that a potion of Dudley’s bad characteristics and behavior during childhood could have been influenced by early and prolonged exposure to Harry as a horcrux. Actually one of my favorite elements to see fleshed out in fanfiction is Ron and/or Dudley blossoming post-cannon, and in my mind part of that is growing up and moving past childhood thinking (or spoiling & indoctrination in Dudley’s case) but partly it could be explained by being relieved of exposure to horcrux Harry. FYI there are some nice Harry & Dudley reconciliation themes in some fanfictions-I always enjoy to see these-and in some of them Dudley ends up with a magical child down the line, which is a fun storyline to explore.

the whole wizard culture is stuck in the past, it's very inconsistent (as most wizards and the school have stuff like plumbing/inside toilets) but technology is supposed to be stuck at the time wizards started hiding from muggles after a law/decree was passed. this is harder to catch on the movies because a lot of stuff becomes simply eccentric instead of olden for aesthetic reasons (the way all wizards wear pants in the movies but in the books most of them use strictly robes which are supposed to be similar to dresses, for example)

6:55 That last piece of Voldemort's soul resembles the "being" that Wormtail dropped into the cauldron in the graveyard towards the end of _Goblet of Fire,_ and emerged as Voldemort in full human-ish form.

Sadly I wasn't allowed to read the books growing up due to very strict Christian parents but even when I saw that scene the first time I knew exactly what it was it was that little piece that had been locked away in Harry all these years. Love HP❤ We could use a story about the founding members of Hogwarts 😍 Would be like an Old Republic movie us SW fans have been waiting for!!

I've been absolutely dying for an Old Republic franchise. I really want to see the Jedi and Sith fighting each other at their peak and I'm interested in seeing the Sith Race on the big screen.

so dudley had also a wise part inside. his biggest fear, his worst memorys caused was himself bullying 🤔 i think at this dementor attack in book 5 he saw his own cruel actions, but from sight of the victims, this caused his change

Free schooling. WHY CAN’T THEY DO THAT WITH COLLEGES??!!
@zerosaber2573 жыл бұрын
because muggles don't have the convenience of magic and live in a brutally competitive world called reality. Muggles dwarf the wizarding population by billions and need funds for almost every single thing. Then there's that thing about modern colleges being full of leftist indoctrination anyway, better to pick up a skill that serves society better than pointless studies that destroy culture and nothing else.

Not in USA, but in many other countries they do and university/college can be free.

@@zerosaber257 You mean majors like Art History, foreign language literature, history, etc.? Yeah, they're useless majors. Looking back on my college experience, I wish I had majored in business, marketing and accounting, but not science, which requires calculus, a course I would have failed. I changed my major 2x before I ended up with the one I liked: political science. Did that major give me any appreciable skills? No, until I got to grad school and I learned how to use the resources of various government agencies and other sources to research and write term papers. I also learned BASIC and COBOL, along with the linked computer source called MUSIC (McGill University System for Interactive Computing) to access software like StatPak and QPak for solving statistical and quantitative problems. Those are skills worth learning.

Just something I always thought about is why would Voldemort not just make his horcrux just a random stone in the middle of absolutely nowhere so no body can find them or does the object have to be special or have a special meaning

It's explained the HBP that Voldemorts pride caused him to only want the greatest and best magical artifacts to house his superior soul.

What makes a creature magical ?
@hoorumii3 жыл бұрын
the thing that makes a creature magical is its supernatural abilities or overall similarities in the magical world. for example phoenix's (which are kinda like eagles in the real world) possess the ability to heal someone through its tears which is a rather abnormal and supernatural trait to see in a bird like creature.

About the “cost of Hogwarts” point; there’s one line that sort of confuses me though and it’s in the Philosopher’s Stone. Mr Dursley rants to Hagrid “I will not PAY to have some old fool teach him magic tricks!” I initially thought parents or guardians had to pay since it’s like a private education
@CM.825 Жыл бұрын
That's because Vernon Dursley doesn't know any better. He only has a very vague, unrealistic understanding of magic and the magical world. He fears and loathes magic and wizards, everything and everyone 'not normal'. But he knows all about what kind of different schools exist in England in his own world, the perfectly normal, mundane world. He knows that at elitist, traditional boarding schools the parents must pay all kinds of fees. Therefore, he naturally assumes that Hogwarts education isn't for free. From age 4 to 11, both Harry and Dudley went to a local primary school, St. Gregory's or something. Starting secondary school, Harry was supposed to go to a local comprehensive school, Stonewall High (from Petunia and Vernon's PoV: where the low class riffraff goes, a state school, not prestigious at all) whereas Dudley was already signed up for something much better: Smeltings, a boarding school, which was Vernon's old school too, as in a family tradition. From the little titbits Petunia had told her husband about Lily, Vernon obviously assumes that this 'Hogwarts School' is a strange type of secondary school for weirdo freaks who learn magic tricks, but otherwise somewhat similar to other prestigious, independent, co-educational boarding schools like St. Edwards, Marlborough or Eton. Actually, I suppose Petunia and Vernon are secretly, unconsciously, extremely jealous of Harry, because Hagrid told them (in the Hut on the Rock)... his name has been down since birth! This means Harry is - in their minds totally undeserved - part of a very small group of people, of the highest social class. Which clashes totally with the 'truth' as the Dursleys see it: that Harry is the son of freaks, the son of a nobody, an unemployed lout, that... that Potter! They never realised that Lily's husband, James Potter wasn't unemployed, instead he was the pureblood heir of the Potter fortune, independently wealthy. He didn't need to work in some boring mundane job! Neither does Harry. Reread the books, look specifically at how the Dursleys and Harry speak or think about Smeltings. The uniform seems ridiculous to many readers, (it's clearly meant as a caricature of real life, elitist, traditional English boarding school uniforms) but Vernon, Petunia and Dudley are incredibly proud that Dudley will attend this specific school at the start of HP & the PS.

I will never understand why so many people have trouble saying Mahoutokoro. It is literally just "magic place", mahou for magic and tokoro for place. It would be more correctly pronounced with the two words spoken as more of a hyphenated word. Mahou-tokoro. Though I have heard some spectacular attempts, like mahoto-koro being quite notable. Your Mahu-to-koro was interesting. "(Mah-hoe)-(tokoro)" would be the easiest way to write out what I mean.
