I remember when it came out. My friend was one of those kids whose parents bought them everything under the sun. The games looked amazing at the time and they actually still look good. The antialiasing what the big deal that gen and the Dreamcast looked buttery smooth. Great console. Too bad sega made some bad financial decisions. That was the first console that looked better than the arcades. That was a defining moment for gaming

A couple other obscure ones I remember enjoying: Maken-X, a first person *slasher* from Atlus about a guy possessed by a demon sword, which is interesting by itself, and it has a very SMTish vibe due to shared production staff. Also, Evil Twin, a third person platformer through a Tim Burton-esque dark dream world, kind of like if Psychonauts and American McGee's Alice had a deformed baby.

Cannon Spike is easily the best game on the DC, and one of the best action games of all time. I didn't discover it until many years after the death of the console, thanks to the media ignoring it at the time, due it being a challenging arcade game with an over-head camera view, and not having a first-person view or behind-the-back camera view. Back then, if a game wasn't pushing 3D graphics, then the media considered it garbage. The media back then also wasn't interested in promoting games that required skill, and Cannon Spike demands a lot of it.

@@claytonweaver7335 I can't even think of 25 games I'd want to play on the DC. Most games of that era haven't aged well due to relying too much on the novelty of 3D graphics for their entertainment value.

@@pancakebreakfast3188 Cannon Spike was a game I used to play inbetween games of Third Strike, CvS2, and/or MvC2 back in the day. I think most Capcom games on the Dreamcast aged well, tbh, except for Code Veronica imo. You also have games like Ikaruga and Mars Matrix and less conventional shooters like Rez and Armada. I could probably get to about 40 games Id still play on the Dreamcast
@pancakebreakfast3188

@@claytonweaver7335 I can think of 8 games I'd play on the DC: Cannon Spike, Gunbird 2, Zero Gunner 2, Under Defeat, Border Down, Triggerheart Excelica, Ikaruga, and Mr Driller. Fighting games probably still hold up well (if you're into them), but I just never cared much for them, and the rest of the shooters for the DC are mediocre at best.

Musapey’s Choco Marker is a FANTASTIC action puzzle game, but good luck finding it. Also, Cannon Spike is underrated-you can play as Mega Man! The Giga Wing games are great, and so is Mars Matrix. MDK 2 is a great game if you can master the clunky controls. An awesome mech battle game is Gundam Renpou vs Zeon. Even if you don’t like mech games, give this one a try. And, of course, for those wanting a laidback experience, Hoyle Casino is the go-to game! Easy interface, fun characters, good reproductions of casino games-imho, it’s STILL better than any casino game on PS3, PS4, PS5, or Vita (and likely other systems, too, but those are the systems I have and play and can verify). As a side note, if I remember right, EGG has literally 20 minutes of dialogue/story before you can do anything, and I don’t think you can skip it or speed it up. Besides that, have at it, Hoss! Finally, everyone loves to talk about how Half Life 2 is so damn awesome, and it is…but what about the first one? Half Life on DC is glorious. Controls are slightly wonky at first because you’re usingDC controller, but graphics still look crisp and sharp and ahead of their time.

I LOVE Blue Stinger, it's so campy and dumb, but unlike Illbleed, that's not on purpose. It adds sort of an innocent appeal to it, and plus as a Sonic fan, hearing Lani Minella and Deem Bristow always makes me smile. Minella specifically is in so many localized SEGA games from around this time, it's always a great surprise hearing Sex Bat voicing a new character lol

Though not a DC exclusive, this game was scary as all hell! One could argue that the Dreamcast version is the one to get. I feel like it was unfairly maligned and deserves to be revisited. I would give it a slight edge over D2, which I never quite got into, but after watching this I’m tempted to go back and give it another try.

Dreamcast had the best versions of a lot of games, actually, considering it was bridging the gap between the 5th and 6th generations so received ports of previous generation games that were still coming out for other platforms. It had the definitive versions of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver and Shadow Man for one thing, and it was where I played Resident Evil 2 (although I ended up playing RE3 on the Gamecube). Also, it was the best platform to play Grandia II on, although in that case it was because the PS2 and PC ports of it were _terrible._

Good list, but I wish you could of given the list of games in the description. It makes it a lot easier to copy and paste the titles into the website I want to pirate them from.

But wasn't there also a Dreamcast game with a trio as protagonists, one of them being a dog? They were wearing all three of those futuristic outfits. Does anyone know its title?

Pretty sure it was MDK like Freddie said. I only played the demo, but it was a lot of fun.

gonna put my 2 cents here: the dreamcast had amazing games, RIVAL SCHOOLS 2 being one of them. but 2 games are stuck in my head : 1- MAKEN-X had the best looking graphics i ever saw, the ps2 port was horrible. 2- THE RING and that game was really one of the best times i had, the tanky control, the horror, the mood, and that nice twist in the story was great, miss that game, shame no port was made.

I had D2, sadly my i was cheated, i unknowingly buyed a refurbished Dreamcast which failed a lot, so i had to release him after a few months, i still remember a game were you didn't hit the enemies, they challenged you to dance , had a futurist style and was fun, but i can't remember the name..
