The Ashanti stool -I can only have immense respect for these people’s strength and defiance! Thrilled that this artifact survives and remains hidden so it can still perform its function for the people.

Yes. Glad they held out and rebelled so they could keep their sacred relic. Otherwise it’d be in some bank vault in London. Or, worse yet, in a display case at the British Museum, taunting these poor people with its golden gleam.

i visited the cairo museum with my family in 2007 (i was 5 and my brother was 1) and my brother’s stroller broke, so my dad just abandoned it in the museum. for years, he kept telling me that the workers at the museum believed the stroller belonged to tutankhamen and that this stroller was now part of the exhibition. i’m not proud to say that but my 6y/o self believed it and i told it to my elementary school friends. they probably thought i was crazy 😭 anyways, i keep great memories of that trip and i would love to go back to egypt in the future!

Was so happy to see the Narwhale throne of Denmark in the video's thumbnail and that you included the throne in the video. And I see that one of the Rosenborg lions snug into the picture too. That's funny. The reason why the throne, as well as many other items that are on display at not only Rosenborg but the National Museum in Denmark, were made from Narwhale tusk, is because they bore a resemblance to a unicorn horn. Kings no longer dying in battle, however, weren't the reason why King Frederik the III changed the monarchy from Elective to Hereditary in 1660. This was because during the final stretch of the Danish-Swedish Wars in 1658, all of Denmark, except the capitol of Copenhagen, was occupied by the Swedes. And while the King very heroically insisted on staying within the city's walls, uttering the famous phrase: "I will die in my nest", he Danish nobility tried to flee the city. But the King had them locked up inside the walls that surrounded Copenhagen at the time, which was the only thing that kept the Swedes out. The fact that the nobles tried to flee, the King saw as treason. He had them renounce all power and influence over the crown and took that power for himself. Reestablishing the Danish monarchy into a Hereditary Absolute Monarchy. The proclamation of the Danish monarchs has actually been done for several centuries. Prior to the 1863 proclamation of King Christian the IX, it was done all across the country by dignitaries yelling the proclamation of a new monarch out a window. When Denmark became a democracy in 1849, it instead became that it was done by the Prime Minister in front of a crowd. For all except two of the monarchs between King Christian the IX in 1863 and King Frederik the X in 2024, it was done from the balcony of Christiansborg Palace. But Christiansborg burnt down in 1882 and didn't finish being rebuilt until 1927. Therefore King Frederik the VIII and King Christian the X were proclaimed from the balconies of their residences at Amalienborg Palace. Also something that should be said about the Rosenborg Lions: King Frederik the III was very fascinated by the story of King Solomon, and actually wanted 12 of these made. When he died, only the three we have today had been made, and King Christian the V put a stop to the making of the last nine lions. While these stand guard over the throne normally, they also play another part at one point in every monarch's lifetime. When a Danish monarch dies, along with the Crown and regalia, the lions are taken out of their display at Rosenborg and set up to stand guard, next to the monarch's coffin, while they are lying in state. A tradition you will see when Queen Margrethe one day dies.

I swear I'm not trying to be annoying or trying to call out the video as false or anything, but there are thories that the throne room and throne of Knossos are not Minoan but instead Mycenaean, and the only reason I bring this up is because I studied the Minoans heavily in college and am quite passionate about the subject. The palace complexes of Crete were more than likely not seats of monarchy to the Minoans, but likely had a processing/administrative role in Minoan society, serving more as storage to distribute resources around the populace once the raw goods were processed. They may also have had a religious function as referenced in the video. There are also arguments that the throne and room themselves are Mycenaean additions as opposed to Minoan, and thus came later to the palace. The excavations on Crete have a very fascinating and twisted history, like many excavations of the early 20th century, and much of Minoan culture is a mystery due to the nature of the Minoan language- Cretan hieroglyphs are not yet deciphered and linear A is only partially deciphered. As such a lot of presumptions were made about the sites and their functions when they were first excavated based on the information the archeologists had at the time and informed by their own biases and beliefs, like many such sites today. The archeologists at the time did not have the benefit of hindsight and 100+ years of research and new developments. The Mycenaeans conquered the island in 1450 BCE, and their art style and aesthetic preferences differ from the Minoan styles in many ways. The Throne Room was built during this time frame, and received its final form in the Late Minoan IIIA period, the last phase of occupation after 1450 bce. The theory of the room being Mycenaean rather than Minoan rises from various differences in the art styles found in the room, for example the presence of the opposing griffons, a heraldic sign unseen in Crete until after the conquest by the Mycenaeans. This is a really fascinating video and I've certainly learned more about other thrones in this video.😊. Thank you Lindsay.

The cutting of the Koh I Noor was not "Bady Done" - the decision was made to cut for brilliance rather than to have a larger but inferior appearing stone. In addition, a flaw was found in the stone during the cutting & the design was changed to remove this.

Unpopular opinion, but the Koh-i-Noor has a messy, bloody history and it’s moved from country to country due to conquests. I don’t think England has to give it back to anyone because it ended up in their hands the same way it ended up in the previous owner’s hands. England’s got a lot of things they should give back to their home countries, but the diamond has always been a trophy of conquest and pretending it’s a piece of any countries cultural heritage is incorrect

UK should keep it in my opinion. They should just make sure it doesn't get destroyed and they should put in a museum and not in a royal treasury. People need to see it in the open, and learn it's history.

One thing about the bells of the golden stool, they come from an attempt by the gyamanhene to create his own golden stool. The Asantehene osei bonsu did not like this, so invaded, executed him and the queen mother, the hene's sister, who implored him to defend his lands, and of whom a kente pattern was made for by the Asante in her honour, and melted the stool into the golden bells that are part of the regalia

This is why we can’t have nice things. I will further elaborate on this. St Edward’s Chair is not a Throne. The Greek Thronos means elevated, and St Edward’s Chair is placed directly on the floor, not on steps. The King is enthroned in the Coronation, he moves from the chair to his throne, which is usually a relatively normal chair

The Ashanti golden stool is so small I don’t think it was ever meant to support an adult’s tush. It’s like the crown of Spain-which is only a symbol and is too small to be placed on an adult’s head. Thus it’s trotted out only during ceremonies declaring the accession of the new Spanish monarch.

At 6:42. Actually, coronations for the Holy Roman Emperor as King of the Germans and King of the Romans happened in Frankfurt, not Vienna, after the coronation of Charles V in 1520. The crown jewels of the Holy Roman Empire were held in Vienna. But they were transported to Frankfurt for the coronation itself. The Holy Roman Emperors after Charles V were in effect not only coronated as Kings of the Germans and Kings of the Romans in Frankfurt, but they got coronated in Vienna as Archdukes of Austria too. Then in Prague as Kings of Bohemia. Then in Bratislava as Kings of Hungary and Croatia. These monarchs had a lot of coronations. This welter of coronations was radically slimmed down after 1806, when the Holy Roman Empire was abolished and the Austrian Empire was declared. That meant only one coronation, in Vienna, was celebrated for the accession of the Emperor of Austria as all the crowns now officially came under one empire.

You’re wrong, Montezuma, was not killed in a power struggle with Cortez. His own people killed him. Montazuma at that time, had already got the nobles into a parliament and declared Charles the fifth their ruler. According to a different religious prophecy that they had. So as representative of Charles, the fifth Cortez had every right to request tribute. The aspects were just extremely upset that Cortez wanted them to stop human sacrifice. Which is why they killed Montezuma.

Correction: England did not have any living monarchs after Elizabeth I and so King James of Scotland as James VI from 24 July 1567 and King of England and Ireland as James I from the union of the Scottish and English crowns on 24 March 1603 until his death in 1625. who wore 2 crowns was crowned king of both kingdoms. When you say in the video the English kings are crowned that is incorrect, maybe earlier English kings might have been crowned but it was always Scotland's, The Stone of destiny, also called Stone of Scone. 24 March 1603 - James VI of Scotland is proclaimed King James I of England & Ireland, upon the death of Elizabeth I. James VI and I (James Charles Stuart; 19 June 1566 - 27 March 1625) was King of Scotland as James VI from 24 July 1567 and King of England and Ireland as James I from the union of the Scottish and English crowns on 24 March 1603 until his death in 1625. Although he long tried to get both countries to adopt a closer political union, the kingdoms of Scotland & England remained individual sovereign states, with their own parliaments, judiciaries, & laws, both ruled by James in personal union. James was the son of Mary, Queen of Scots, & a great-great-grandson of Henry VII, King of England & Lord of Ireland, & thus a potential successor to all three thrones. He succeeded to the Scottish throne at the age of thirteen months, after his mother was forced to abdicate in his Favour. Four different regents governed during his minority, which ended officially in 1578, though he did not gain full control of his government until 1583. In 1589, he married Anne of Denmark. Three of their children survived to adulthood: Henry Frederick, Elizabeth, & Charles. In 1603, James succeeded his cousin Elizabeth I, the last Tudor monarch of England & Ireland, who died childless. He continued to reign in all three kingdoms for 22 years, a period known as the Jacobean era, until his death in 1625. After the Union of the Crowns, he based himself in England (the largest of the three realms) from 1603, returning to Scotland only once, in 1617, & styled himself "King of Great Britain & Ireland". He was a major advocate of a single parliament for England & Scotland. In his reign, the Plantation of Ulster & English colonization of the Americas began. He achieved most of his aims in Scotland but faced great difficulties in England, including the Gunpowder Plot in 1605 & repeated conflicts with the English Parliament. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 He was the longest-reigning monarch of the Kingdom of Scotland (57 years & 246 day) 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Nah, James VI moved to England after becoming king and the two nations were independent of each other until 1707 when the English were able to force Scotland into a union because the country was broke after failing to establish a colony in Panama. Thus in a way the UK is just an enlarged England as London is still the capital and most people are in England, this is why some Scots want out of the Union coz it wasn't lead by their country but it was done mostly on English terms

Iran is home to several magnificent royal thrones, each with its own unique story and design. Here are a few of the most notable ones: • The Sun Throne Also known as the Peacock Throne, this stunning throne features a large platform adorned with a radiant sun disk on its headboard. It's a symbol of grandeur and beauty! • The Marble Throne Inspired by the ancient city of Persepolis, the Marble Throne has legs shaped like human figures. Legend has it that the Royal Balcony of this throne was constructed during the reign of Karim Khan Zand, adding to its historical significance. • The Naderi Throne Crafted from wood and lavishly covered in gold, the Naderi Throne is encrusted with sparkling jewels. What’s fascinating is that it can be disassembled into 12 sections for easy transport! The name "Naderi" comes from the Persian word for "rare" or "unique," and today, this exquisite throne is housed in the national treasury of the Central Bank of Iran. • Other Notable Thrones - The Peacock Throne: This throne was brought to Iran by Nadir Shah in 1739, but sadly, no complete versions of the original remain today. - Solomon's Takht: Named after the legendary throne of King Solomon, this throne carries a rich historical legacy. These thrones not only showcase the artistry and craftsmanship of their time but also reflect the rich cultural heritage of Iran! * Takht = Throne

There is an error... after Charles V was crowned at Aachen Cathedral in Germany, the coronation took place in Frankfurt Cathedral until the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806, and NOT Vienna.

Scotland and England weren't united until 1707. The students didn't steal the Stone of Scone because you can't steal something that rightfully belongs to you. The real stone never left Scotland as the monks at Scone Abbey hid it and gave the English King a piece of local stone.
