I agree with everything! The empty liquor bottles on top of kitchen cabinets: It's amazing how many people actually do that. I see a lot of it on realtor sites. I've never understood it because it does look juvenile, like "Look at all the alcohol I've consumed!". What an odd decorating statement to make.

Fake fruit just brought me back. I got in trouble at a friend’s house for taking the fake fruit from the fruit bowl and putting it into my friend’s play kitchen. Their parents got mad because they literally couldn’t tell the fruit apart. 😂 I remembered, so I helped it get back to normal. I remember as a kid being confused as to why they had toy fruit in their kitchen fruit bowl. It was an honest mistake as the fruit looked EXACTLY the same. Hence, why they were unable to tell them apart. 😂

Plastic fruit is ugly but antique stone fruit is pretty neat. I collect antiques and I’ve seen nice collections of 200 year old stone fruit in a basket or bowl. I don’t have any yet because they are expensive, but I can dream.

Thank you for this. I bought a new house last summer and it was decorated "industrial farmhouse" with almost 200 signs purchased from Walmart and Dollar General (they didn't remove the stickers) throughout. It was hideous. Thousands of nail holes to fill after we moved in. I expect it to take 5 years to complete renovating it to Georgian country home style.

I was born and raised in NYC. Everyone had plastic covers on their furniture, and terrible pictures on the walls. I was shocked when I went to the University of Georgia and was invited to a roommate's family home, that they didn't have plastic covers, they didn't even know what I was talking about. and the pictures on their walls were of family. It was truly a cultural shock, which was wonderful.

Red velvet crushed velvet sofa with plastic covering. Two gold and red lamps on either side of sofa that were life sized elves!!! ( And they were Jewish!! ) And the best!! Ladies, this is the reason you don’t bring little boys over to your home 🏠.. NB your home. You should never be ashamed of your parents home. The place where your parents took their hard earned money to raise you. Any person who exposes your personal lifestyle and your parents is a low life. This person here, has little regard to people’s personal space & disregard for a person’s privacy. Please, find a person who isn’t superficial, like this little boy here! Practice gratitude 🙏 and never be afraid to be true to yourself, your religion & your lifestyle.

Okay Reynard . I gotcha . Did the chimney here beautifully in faux brick wall paper, and it wasn't easy , AND there is two posters without frames on wall in bedroom, and world map in living room; both without frames . (And, Girl With Pearl Ear-ring also in foyer, so that it three prints needing frames). So I will switcheroo the brick wall paper on the chimney to the real brick tiles , and will get frames for those three prints when I am in Warrnambool next Reynard , get it sorted out . Because you're right . And I knew it too. But , sometimes , I need to hear it from someone else in authority, like yourself that knows more about the topic, to give me the nudge I need to do the necessary refinements. You're super shrewd smart, in your field, I respect and listen to you , seriously thankyou . Plus have subscribed to your channel for that reason Reynard as love your work. 🙌

Some of the things I love in my home are 1) my parent’s large vertical Chinese scrolls. They illustrate how tall the ceilings are. 😂 2) The 90 inch sheer curtains from Ikea are cheap and airy. 3) Japanese curtains over my bookcases to camouflage clutter. 4)🪴 plants. 5) Mirrors to bounce off light.

I did a half no-no with a very large interim poster. I hope when I can afford it to purchase some actual art for a large open wall space in my living room. But for now I purchased a colorful, fun Mid-century poster 4'X5'. I could not afford to frame such a large, temporary poster. SO I secured the poster to the wall with double stick tape. Then had a friend cut me 4 pieces of 1X3 pine, painted them a matte black (the room has some black accents as well as the poster) and then just screwed them into the wall with black screws around the poster, butted up, not mitered. Very inexpensive but imo not tooo bad until I get my permanent piece there and can save up and frame it properly. It'll just be a matter of spackling 10 small screw holes and putting up something I really love.

I agree with almost all your takes. I have a large set of vertical blinds in my living room and ive actually grown really fond of them. I unfortunately have vertical blinds. I don’t like vertical blinds but I felt I had no choice. I bought a condo 3 years ago which needed new window treatments. The living room has a balcony with a sliding door. The 2 bedrooms got pleated shades w/ sheer panels for light & privacy. The living room balcony got vertical shades for light, privacy & ease of access. I don’t get a lot of natural light. I face north. I also face another building where I can see the units directly across from me. I would’ve preferred sheer curtains but I wanted as much light as possible.

There’s a fine line between a “rug” and a “carpet”, in my view. In our house, the living room is pretty much a corridor between the front door and the kitchen. If we put down a really big rug (ie, a carpet) one side of it would be permanently filthy from people walking across it to access the kitchen. Whereas a small rug provides somewhere cosy for your feet if you’re sitting on the sofa, but allows access to the kitchen without having to step on the rug.

@@stacistaci6657 We recently replaced the carpet in the living room with hardwood flooring and went through the same thing. I didn't want to get a rug since didn't we just replace the carpet and now we're putting another one back?1! I want to see my beautiful new floors. But seriously the noise and echo is horrendous. The bare room with just the floors was like a warehouse. We brought the furniture in and it helped somewhat but we definitely needed an area rug under the sofas. It's not just the noise though. Depending on the size of your lviing room and other rooms opening on to it, the floor can look really bare like a store or office. Mine is not very big but we do have a library/art studio on one end and the rug frames the living areas quite nicely. I'm planning to get a really comfy rug (smaller) for the library chair to zone that area as well.

As someone living in a small apartment I can't agree with you more! We don't have space for fake anything 😅 Edit: unless it's a fake book that is actually a box, those are useful at least

Every time I see that on a decorating show it annoys me. Why would I have three books with a candle on top if I read the books?

I have had a tiny Persian carpet in front of the kitchen sink and workbench. And similar tiny ones next to my child’s beds where they stand before getting in and out of bed.

Do you have a video of how to make real books look nice? I have 4 bookshelves in a row, that fit in a jut out in my living room. They are full of hard covered books

Geez I hated plastic wrapped furniture when I was a kid and still don’t understand it. Do people still have it these days?

Me too my first visit to my aunt who lived in Canada had the plastic on chairs. I ask my sister who lived there why the plastic, she said it was because to keep it clean - I hated sitting on the chairs as it made so much noise I could wait to leave.

Agree with all of these - ESPECIALLY the backwards books - HORRIBLE way to show people you don't read - but beg to differ on the rug under a dining table - makes pulling your chair in and out difficult, not to mention the constant vacuuming you would need to do for crumbs and such.

This. It's one of the biggest reasons I replaced my carpet with hard floors under the dining table. No rug is ever getting under my table ever again!

What you haven't mentioned is the importance of empty space. I'd rather have a completely blank wall than a wall full of framed prints or tacky decals.. I didn't know wrapping furniture in plastic and using it was a thing..I'm 55 and I've never heard of that. My mum is the sort who spends good money on a quality sofa and then covers it immediately in a throw, which always looks like the decorators are in.

What do you think of using a pair of rugs side by side to achieve the bigger size ? Ie two rugs of 3x4m instead one 6x4m or 3x8m? Congrats on 300K. Well done 👏

personally, im against framing anything but thats because it is the look im going for. however i want to point out that half the examples are not really representative of how you will hang posters, because 1. formats are wildly varied, meanwhile posters might tend to have a set size. 2. Some of the pics in those frames are "empty" to balance other ones, while a poster is independent so the way it is portrayed they are gonna look busy together.
