Hi, just wondering what your thoughts were on Matthew 14:27 where Eyw Eimi is generally translated as "it is I". I took it that it would read something like "have courage, I am. Do not be afraid", in reference to him being God? I thought that worked in the context of him also demonstrating his divine nature.
@GreekForAll
@GreekForAll 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, I agree with you. There is another set of "I am" verses which just stand on their own: just I AM. These are clear references to his divine nature. And Matt 14:27 is most likely one of these texts.

In Luke 1:19 Ἐγώ εἰμι Γαβριὴλ. Does ego eimi has divine attribution? Or Can i use a simple english word like Ego Eimi + X(mr.example(name) = I am Mr.example. if it can, so there is no problem with eigo eimi meaning.
@GreekForAll
@GreekForAll Жыл бұрын
Excellent question. The phrase “I am” in itself is just a phrase. However, when God says it, it means much more. It is His divine name. So the context should provide more information what meaning the phrase has. In you example from Luke 1:19 it’s clear that it is just a phrase

Could you make the connection on how this "I am" phrase means more than just "I am" in English? Like "I am a carpenter" is normal English. Why cant "I am the door" just be normal English? I'm assuming you're making the connection to the name Yhwh gives Himself as the "I Am", but it also just looks like normal English. Thanks!

Ἐγώ εἰμι ὁ ἄρτος. Remember that εἰμι is an enclitic and ὁ is a proclitic. Therefore, when pronouncing Ἐγώ εἰμι treat the two words as one word with the stress on the omega. It's like in English, " 'm " must be joined with "I" in "I'm" short for "I am" in connected speech. The ὁ is regarded as joined with ἄρτος. You should not have a pause between Ἐγώ and εἰμι, and no pause between ὁ and ἄρτος. In English, we can say, "Do you ..." but in normal connected speech the "do" is shortened to " d' " so it becomes "d'you". The d' is an English proclitic.

Can we see the God's name(Jehovah) in new testament? I mean original Greek scripture. Please reply
@GreekForAll
@GreekForAll 3 жыл бұрын
As far as I know, there is no word "Jehovah" in the New Testament. Usually, God's name in the OT is translated in Greek as "Kurios"=LORD (in the Septuagint, LXX). Thus, the NT writers quoting the OT used the Septuagint with "Kurios" where Hebrew text has "Jehovah." In sum, there is no word "Jehovah" in the NT, yet it uses Greek "Kurios" in the OT quotes where "Jehovah" would normally appear in Hebrew text.

@@exjwsrilanka1898 The Gospel of Matthew could've been written in Hebrew but it is not certain. Even if it was, there is no Hebrew manuscript of it. In fact, all extant manuscripts of the NT books are in Greek. There is no manuscript of any NT book in Hebrew.

I am not sure if there are enough evidences to support this view. The OT was written in Hebrew and then translated into the Greek (Septuagint/LXX) at around 300-200BC.

@@GreekForAll You are perpetrating a very subtle deception here and you surely must know it! A DECEPTIVE translation of the Bible, no matter how subtle it may seem. Is still a deception. You are promoting Trinitarianism by inappropriately connecting the I AM (ego eimi in the Koine Greek of the NT) as stated by Jesus and comparing it to the "I AM" that supposedly was said by God in Hebrew 3:14. By so doing you are not working for the God of TRUTH. You're working for the father of the lie. This one was a deceiver from when he began. Your response to Red Baron demonstrates the intent of your deception. Surely you must know that ego eimi "I am" in Greek simply means 'I am' and nothing more. ITS NOT A TITLE! Why do you deliberately ignore what Jesus said in John 10:36 I am the Son of God (eimi). Saying clearly that He is a son of God, is not the same as saying He is God. And yet to the Red Baron's question; So Jesus Christ is God? You answered. "He is". How can you be so sure that Jesus is God when you can't show where he said so, clearly and unambiguously? Rather than arrive at your erroneous conclusion, through the use of circumstantial linguistic implications, arrived at by the questionable interpretation of ego eimi. I am. Jesus is clearly all the things He says He is, but just where does He say He is God in a Trinity with God? Where does he say I AM GOD? I am, means, I am, Its me, or I exist. "I THINK, THEREFORE I AM". REGARDING THE HEBREW I AM 1- The Septuagint translated THE BEING in Exodus 3:14 "And God spoke to Moses, saying, I am (ego eimi) THE BEING; and he said, Thus shall ye say to the children of Israel, THE BEING has sent me to you." 2- The Septuagint translated 2 Samuel 2:19 And Asahel pursued Abner, and as he went, he turned neither to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner. 20 Then Abner looked behind him and said, “Is that you, Asahel?” And he answered, "I am" (ego eimi) i.e. “It is I.” ---- Note: In the original language of Hebrew, what is translated here as "ego eimi" is an entirely different word than in Exodus 3:14. 3- In the gospel of John 9:8 The neighbours and those who had seen him before as a beggar were saying, “Is this not the man who used to sit and beg?” Some said, “It is he.” Others said, “No, but he is like him.” He kept saying, “I am he.” (ego eimi) - This is just a normal everyday use of the Greek words ego eimi, meaning. I AM HE. What a tangled web you weave when you practice to deceive! Will God forgive you for those you stumble into a false belief?
@GreekForAll
@GreekForAll 2 жыл бұрын
@@alfredgrioli9474 Thank you for your detailed comment. I totally in agreement with you that "ego eimi" can mean simple "I am" without any divine attributions. Also I agree with you that sometimes it is the rendering of the divine name 'I AM" as shown in Exod 3:14. In this video, most of the "ego eimi" statements are simple "I am" (maybe even all of them), so you should have no troubles. At the same time, there are a number of "I AM" statements referring to Jesus which just cannot be understood as simple "I am". For example: John 8:24, 28, 58; 13:19 and etc. As for the son of God being also God is as simple as that God is not a personal name . Jesus is God same as the Father is God. My friend, it's a big topic and if you would like to engage further, I just ask you to clean your language from accusations or similar expressions. I keep my discussions clean and will not tolerate rudeness. Thanks!
