Lower Decks is such a sensational series. It really is a love letter to all of Star Trek.

I can see the return of Voyager to Earth from the Delta Quadrant being established as some sort of holiday--for the crew of Voyager at least.
@Woodsman927319 күн бұрын
I respectfully disagree. That was a historic day for StarFleet history and protocol, at the bare minimum. The amount of information collected on that ship would’ve changed certain things forever. There would absolutely be an official, recognized holiday in commemoration of Voyagers return to Earth.
@wickideazyАй бұрын
First Contact Day, Federation Day, Frontier Day...holiday planners love to F around, don't they? 😏 The one holiday I would like to celebrate would be the Bajoran Gratitude Festival. There's something deeply appealing about letting go of one's worries, turning them to ash and moving forward into the future with gratitude for our blessings. Peldor Joi, and Happy Holidays everyone!
@vic5015Ай бұрын
You don't need a holiday to do that. Could be a nice end-of-the-year ritual. Write down all of your regrets and worries from the past year on pieces of paper then burn them and symbolically start the next year fresh. Could be fun. Maybe I'll try it.
@KingfisherTalkingPicturesАй бұрын
It’s not very hard to calculate the first day of the Bajoran Gratitude Festival. It’s always the first Riljksday after the 20th Flesday following the first eclipse of the 12th moon of the planet Keljan. Unless the year (calculated from the date of the opening of the Torath Temple) is a prime number, in which it’s the 24th Flesday. Keep in mind we are talking about the Torath temple in Larchannon province, not the one in Garthoon province. Fairly straightforward I would think.

Honestly Neelix just sounds like the kind of guy to always see the positivity in almost any situation
@HariSeldon913Ай бұрын
I didn't think about it at the time, but Neelix digging up and inventing various reasons for celebration reminds me of an old MASH episode where BJ decides the camp needs a party and tells people it's going to be Hawkeye's birthday. Hawkeye objects and counters by telling people it's really BJ's anniversary.

Only three days until Christmas and no mention of Christmas (at least honorable mention)? Because, yes, at least some humans as late as the 23rd century still celebrate the old holiday, and possibly as late as the 24th century, as well. We know that Kirk and the lovely and rather badass Dr. Helen Noel shared a flirty encounter at a “Christmas party” (direct quote) aboard the Enterprise during the Original Series. Picard also had a vision in the Temporal Nexus, in which he perceived himself celebrating Christmas with an unrealized family. This one is a bit ambiguous given the timey whimy hallucinogenic nature of that particular experience. However, it suggests that Christmas is possibly still celebrated on Earth as late as the 24th century. It’s unambiguous that members of the Enterprise crew were celebrating Christmas in the 2260s.

Since Patrick Stewart is so well known for his version of The Christmas Carol, I think a bit of that was a nod to his work.

Any chance of getting a breakdown on how to determine star dates? It really help out in trying to out when certain things take place in the future.
@QBCPerditionАй бұрын
Originally, Star Dates were created by Gene Roddenberry as a way to not conclusively set Star Trek in any specific year. The only rule was that they should get larger as the series went on, and even that didn't exactly happen due to shifting production and air dates. By the time of TNG, Star dates roughly corresponded 1000 equalling a year. Encounter at Farpoint was 41153.7. The second season starts with 42, the third with 43, etc. Voyager ended with Stardate 533171.1. So if 1000 equals a year, you can do the math down to the day...kind of.

First contact day gets the same confusion as the Millenium celebration we had - in the wrong year. The first version of Star Trek Chronology lists First Contact as 2061. (I believe it was changed on a whim during production of the movie of the same name).

In the original series episode "Charlie X," Capt. Kirk mentions to the ship's chef preparing meatloaf-shaped turkey dinners for the crew. Kirk says the Earth holiday Thanksgiving is coming up, so since the ship can't be back on Earth, he'd like to see they get to celebrate or observe with a special dinner.

Was it really a tactically sound decision to bring the ENTIRE fleet back for Frontier Day? Surely some still real Starfleet Admiral would've flagged that up as being a bad idea?

…. The higher ups like Tuvok were replaced by Founders… and morons like Fleet Admiral Shelby were so proud to show off the new fleet automation that she thought it was a good idea. Which goes to show, even in the future, if you have stupid people in charge stupid things happen.

Thoughts on the Star Trek Cruises? It annoys me that a show that in part teaches to try to be ethical, follow the science etc, also runs a holiday scheme that uses one of the most polluting forms of transport in the world. Gotta chase that $$$ though, for all the ethics talk in the TV shows, it's always been a merchandise cashgrab chasing Star Wars' tails.

Just so long as we don't end up with a cheese-fest like they did for star wars and their holiday special... :P

Most of the federation holidays are so copy pasta that there is little to distinguish between them. Which is sort of offensive considering that do you really think that in 2-400 years time people are going to stop celebrating holidays like halloween? Yet there is a conspicuous absence of traditional holidays in trek, save for that really out of place Victorian Christmas fantasy of Jean Lucs in generation.
