Really surprised not to see Blind Guardian on here, but well, if you're not into Power Metal that would make sense. But at least off the top of my head I'd say there's probably no German metal band touring the US more than they do, except for Rammstein and the Scorpions ofc. But then again, they only tour after a new album, which is about every four or five years. Well anyway, definitely a successful and influential German band there. But great to hear Protector and Cripper mentioned - actually, that guy on my avatar is a creation of Jonathan, formerly of Cripper, who did our album cover.

I think one of the reasons there aren't so many iconic german bands is that there were always so many offshoots into different genres. We had a big industrial scene, the folk metal / medieval rock scene is huge and metal guitars bled into punk, electro and even mainstream rock. I guess the reason Doro wasn't on the list is that many consider Warlock more hard rock than metal. I thought of posting suggestions of what you could listen to, but i'll only post one corona song: HÄMATOM - #FCKCRN (you'll find the video on youtube)

The bands Varg, Equilibrium, and In Extremo are lesser known, but very good bands.

I loved many older In extremo albums. I've heard them for the first time when I was just six or seven years old and I fell in love. I can still sing Herr Mannelich or Santa Maria without even thinking about it. :-D

*Tankard* - always overlooked when talking about teutonic Thrash *Blind Guardian* - legends in the Power Metal scene *Running Wild* - same as Blind Guardian *Hate Squad* - Thrashcore very influencial to Heaven Shall Burn *Obscura* - highly praised among Necrophagist fans And yeah, *Pelagial* is fantastic.

Well, i had a list of 10 bands and it would be closer to 30 had it included all the bands that i apparently should have said. I pointed out the big 4 and I still don't think i had to say each by name. But to be fair I don't think I ever heard of Tankard before coming here so it would not have been any real content for me just to say their name.
@Faxeable4 жыл бұрын
@@KrautsalatAnAmericaninGermany Yeah, I get that. I'd recommend you try them though, they're a fun band and good first listen titles would be Die With A Beer In Your Hand and The Morning After

Yes...where the Hell is Blind Guardian??? thats a poor video of you with no referring to famous Blind Guardian...they were THE Metal Band in the 90s btw..."Somewhere far beyond" "Imaginations from the other side"...what the hell.....also missing bands are "Running Wild" and "Grave Digger"....what pourly research did u do???
@KrautsalatAnAmericaninGermany4 жыл бұрын
I did zero research! Lol. I was given a premade list and i don't know who made it. Said my thoughts on those bands and then made my own list. And I have zero clue who was popular here in the 90s. Or, i had. Now i know Blind Guardian was lol

I absolutely love German thrash. A lot of german thrash bands are in my top100 bands of all time. The big Teutonic 4 is awesome(Tankard is my favorite), Holy Moses(Sabina is the best female vocalist ever), Darkness(and their german-speaking project Eure Erben), Vendetta, Accuser, Assasin, Exumer, Mekong Delta(awesome prog thrash with classical music influence), Necronomicon, Deathrow and many others. I've seen many of those live and they rule. Not a fan of power metal though. It's popular in Germany but i don't like it at all. I do like the first Helloween album but it's mostly speed metal.

@KrautsalatAnAmericaninGermany4 жыл бұрын
Actually I should have mentioned them to make the point. I had never heard of them until after coming to Germany so the answer would be No, they are not big in the US.
@Beamy20004 жыл бұрын
@@KrautsalatAnAmericaninGermany I, honestly, wouldnt have thought that. Maybe because i´m a fanboy, and i´ve seen their success in other countries like japan, i just expected, they were known in the US, too.
