I fluctuate around 183-191 lbs for my walking around weight. I always grapple around my walking around weight, and sometimes I’ll be small for whatever weight class I signed up to grapple in. The #1 entry on this list is part of the reason why I have no intention of going lower than 170 lbs whenever I make the transition to MMA. Eating disorders run in my family history, I have some mental health struggles that sometimes leave me with a lot of unhealthy food cravings whenever my daily medication wears off, and I make incredibly bad choices from the stress of being hungry or thirsty. Sometimes you just have to deal with the fact that you’re not a giant in your weight class in order to preserve your longevity as a functional human being.

This video hit me in the feels. I'm just a recreational grappler. One of the main reasons that I compete at all is to keep my weight from getting away from me as I get older. The flip side is, the things you do to be able to hit a specific number on a certain date are decidedly not good for you. I've done several of the things on this list, and while they all really worked as far as moving the number on the scale, I'm convinced that my performance suffered as a result.
@jaysalisbury1939 ай бұрын
Thank you for being honest. I'm 3-0 ammy mma and 40-2 ammy kickboxing. I walk around at 180. The cut to 146 definitely took something away from me, at very least in the motivation stakes. The 138lb cut definitely made me a shell of myself. I once passed out just before having to go to the ring, I couldn't even hear my coach giving instructions. All the best, bro. I hope you are good. :) respect.

It's awesome to know that I have something in common with JDS. I have a condition that's actually a terminal mitochondrial myopathy but the whole thing started with me being hospitalized on five occasions with rhabdo. I would go on a half-mile walk around the neighborhood and the next day my feet would be three times their size and my legs would be so swollen that if I put socks on their would be a mark across my calf for 36 hours. This kept occurring and then they took blood test and my blood tests were all bizarre as if my body's immune system was just quitting while other parts were attacking. It took two years of specialist until a geneticist found out that I have a thing called KSS which is 50% deletion of the mtdna in my brain. That's the energy source for your body so as more and more of it dies your heart dies your liver dies so at Max I have maybe two more years to live and I'll be blind when I die. who says I can't bring the happy news? Anyhow it could be a little longer, it could be a little less but it all started with rhabdo so JDS to the max.😊

It's another one of those catch 22 situations that life is so fond of giving you. I do know that you should not wait for a death sentence to start living.
