I feel like it’s not that bad of a loss if by some chance Yan does lose. Because it more so just answers questions about O’Malley and where he truly fits in the division (again, that’s win or lose) If Sean wins then ok he’s "that good" It doesn’t really damage Yan’s position that much in my opinion. He’ll slide a little, but we already know he’s on par if not better then the guys he’ll slide level with.

One of the riskiest fights, in my mind, was Chuck Liddell taking on Tito Ortiz for a third time. Chuck had already beaten Tito twice; there was nothing left to prove there. Chuck was risking his health, but by taking the fight, Tito was taking an essentially no-win fight. Either he'd win and people would go "You beat up an old, out-of-shape Chuck" or he would lose and people would say "You got beat by an old, out-of-shape Chuck".

Francis' risk taken was huge as hell. He was in a fight he couldn't say no to (he was pretty much forced to fight injured, because if he pulled out with his knee injury, he would have been stripped just like Tony was when he blew his knee), Gane was seen as a nightmare matchup for him (nobody knew he would become Franbib Ngannoumedov mid-fight) and he would have lost all possible bargaining power if he lost the fight (he could still sign with Bellator or PFL, but his golden ticket for a Tyson Fury exhibition for a few millions would be gone for good if he wasn't something besides the undisputed UFC Heavyweight champion, and if by some miracle he did re-sign, also goodbye to a Jon Jones fight) and for daring to go against Dana, he would have been fired to make an example of him. That was even more of an all-or-nothing fight than Tony's. Tony had the option to not fight. Francis didn't.

I totally disagree with this list. How is taking on an opponent who hasn't been training for a fight for 3+ months, when you've been in training camp for 3+ months considered "risky"? It's actually incredibly favorable. The fighter stepping in on short notice is at a tremendous disadvantage. Not to mention they have to cut weight on short notice too.

yeah I've been thinking how hugely risky this is for Yan. It's possible (if not likely) that Sean styles on him and knocks him out while he's just starting to feel his way into the fight. Meanwhile if he beats Sean, so what? We expect it, and Sean's very successful brand isn't dependent upon being the best, so it's just like nothing really happened.
