Coffin Dodgers is another example of a Kart Racer that you won't believe exists. It consists of seniors trying to outrace the Grim Reaper and using things like their canes to hit other karts.

Muppet RaceMania on PS1 is the most underrated at least talking with people today. But it’s an absolutely goated game. It was also reviewed really good by magazines back in the day.

Interesting fact I discovered about the game as a kid, if you read through the manual, there is a thank you towards the end where they divulge all of the game's cheat codes asking you to keep it a secret. Only game I have ever seen do that.

Fun video! If you want to get really esoteric though, there was a kart racer released for the PS2 in 2011, five years after the PS3 had come out. The title is "Cart Kings", made by developers in India, which probably didn't see a lot of sales outside of that country. Especially since it was also a licensed game, using characters from comics published by Amar Chitra Katha, an Indian comic book publisher.

South Park Rally was my go to racer growing up. My dad had bought it and I just loved it. All the modes were insane. I hated Easter and Thanksgiving Day

South Park Rally ran like absolute garbage on PS1. I remember renting it growing up and it was actually impossible to control properly coz it was about 10fps 😂

First off, the way Jess says Cinemas is delightful. Second, hearing anyone talking about South Park video games as a whole as a positive was not around for the N64/PS1 era. Those games were hot garbage and the creators of South Park banned using their license for video games for over a decade.

I played a ton of Muppet Racemania as a kid. It was great. I don’t remember much from it, more than I really wanted to unlock Floyd and that there was a power up that basically let you skip parts of a level

Between all the 3D mascot platform games and the kart racing games the two generations from the PS1 to PS2 had the market flooded with them before the FPS and open world games took over after that.

I've seen a fighting game with Les Miserables characters. (Arm Joe or ArmJoe, for the curious.) I don't know if there's such a thing as a kart racer that I won't believe exists, but bring it on. By this point, we'd already had Baby Pac-Man, a game that alternated between a more traditional Pac-Man game and pinball, and Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures, a point-and-click adventure in which you don't actually control Pac-Man, but guide him with a slingshot and just hope he actually does it. (Also others, but they don't seem that weird.) Honestly, I still don't know. I've seen things. If you told me there was a kart racer where you could play as various Bible characters on courses evocative of the setting, I'd tentatively believe you.

I’d imagine Bloodborne Kart would have topped this list, if Sony didn’t suck for suing the poor fan that made it 😢 As far as being able to legally drive goes, most Go-Karts don’t require a driver’s license if they aren’t used on public roadways (in fact, in many places, Go-Karts aren’t street legal and must be kept within designated tracks).

I really liked Muppets Race Mania way back on the ps1, it's a cool Kart/Mascot Racer. one of the best kart racing games I ever played. I wish for a ps4 and ps5 re-release with rewind and trophies support of it even though I don't think it would be possible due to whoever own the rights to the Muppets.

I think the implication was that the character had to be older than 16 🤷‍♀️. Although the Mario/Luigi characters are almost as old as Pac-Man. (Mario first appeared in 1981’s Donkey Kong, and Mario Bros debuted in 1983). Also the kind of kart racers these games feature usually don’t actually require a license to drive, because they aren’t to be used on public roadways. I think younger kids in the 10-15 year range are allowed to drive karts within the confines of an off-road track (like an amusement park/miniature golf center).

All three Burger King games were released on original Xbox discs but utilized the updated artwork of the Xbox 360 cases. Blitz Games, the developer of all three titles, also utilized some developer trickery where the game is coded to recognize which console the game was played on and would tap into alternate assets stored on the disc as they were hybrid titles allowing it to increase frame rate and draw distances, improve load times, use high definition textures, etc. The founder of the studio participated in an in-depth documentary here on KZbin if you'd want to here his stories about these games.

“Who cares about the US?” Pretty much every video game publisher ever, since it’s been the largest market for video games for over 40 years. That’s not to say that games that don’t get a US release are not “legit”. There are great games that only released in Japan, Europe, or other markets.
