As an abstract painter for decades who turned to try my hand a making modern landscape paintings during the Pandemic, I appreciate seeing what other established artists are making currently. Thank you for putting this together. Cheers-Greg

Cool survey, thanks! KIEFER! So glad he made it in, shame poor old Richter didn't 😂. These are my heroes since the 80s. But I guess that's because in my work I've always questioned the limits of painting. Illusory space, oil on canvas, versus materialism, real space etc. That was the Kiefer epiphany.

Wow--- only on the second featured artist but had to comment...Daniel Heidkamp is a modern mix of Van Gogh, Seraut, Hockney and Cezanne!

Can you talk about horror surrealism/ dark/ macabre/ ecc (paintings)? Where can you work as a Surrealistic horror painter? Are there any macabre art galleries? Is this a specific field in art? And can you work as an artist like that?

Heidcamp is definitely taking some cues from Hockney - in both the compositional style and colour palettes.

@Greenplanet949Ай бұрын
When you were showing Peter Doug’s work, specifically Trinidad, you showed a Winslow Homer watercolor called “Flower Garden and Bungalow, Bermuda” I recognized it, as Homers watercolors are a great favorite of mine. Can you edit this out?
@contemporaryartissueАй бұрын
Thank you so much for pointing out this mistake. Somehow, this image found its way to the editor and it entered the video, my apologies. Well spotted! Unfortunately, as soon as a video has been uploaded to KZbin, I can't make any additional edits. As a result, I have mentioned the mistake in the pinned comment. Thank you again!

@@contemporaryartissue That's lazy. Take the wrong one down and edit it. Takes you five minutes.

@@jenna2431 If I would take it down and re-upload it, it would kill the momentum of the video entirely, unfortunately, hence the current solution. Have a nice day

Thank you for the wonderful exposé and happy to see some Belgian names, I'd argue Lucas Arruda would deserve a spot in the list since many of the mentioned names have "similar" styles. A wonderful list nonetheless.

I noticed that room echo makes it difficult to hear you clearly. For this type of content, audio quality is often more important than video. Consider adding acoustic panels or sound-absorbing materials to your walls, or using a directional microphone. These changes could improve your sound quality.
@contemporaryartissueАй бұрын
Yes, I do have a "podcast" microphone, but to keep it out of the shot, it is perhaps not close enough to avoid the echo. I used to have a clip-on microphone, but I was looking for a more advanced one and, therefore, started using this "podcast" microphone. But indeed, I always record in this rather big space, so I'll have to find a new setup or recording environment. In any case, thank you for the valuable feedback!

You rarely features asian artist as they really have a unique style...Though what your features are absolutely great.
@contemporaryartissueАй бұрын
There are no Asian artists in this video, but I do feature them every now and then. Of course, as I am based in Europe, Western artists are more likely to be featured in my personally curated lists. I was however strongly considering the landscapes by Leiko Ikemura for this list, but I have featured her in practically any listicle on figurative painting so far so I decided for a refreshing take focusing on this topic. Thank you for tuning in!

I struggle with landscape painting, often something always seems missing or unfinished about them in my eyes. My problem, that I accept but I have never really been able to put my finger on what it is I feel I am missing. Maybe it is what Marcel Duchamp said, not particularly about just landscape painting but I'll say it, it's just optics. That said, I have only seen works by Peter Doig and Keifer. The Peter Doig paintings I've seen were mesmerising and Keifer's go without saying, they are so multilayered, in both materials and vision, it doesn't really matter what the subject is, I just get lost in them. That said, one should never judge an art work one has never seen in the flesh so to speak.
@garjog1Ай бұрын
Yes, seems that many landscapes are just pretty pictures. These two artists evoke something deeper.

Hi Keith, thank you for sharing your most interesting thoughts here. I can see what you mean, it can indeed be a visual spectacle. However, I have seen the works of all 10 artists from this list and was thoroughly convinced of them when standing in front of them. Hopefully, if you have the chance to see them in the flesh, they might convince you as well. Thank you for tuning in and have a great day!
